HUD impact on performance?

Interesting definition of "constructive criticism" and suggestion to shut a median of communication based on your sole interpretation.

In real life son, when you get a real job, that kind of negative comments is a far fetched "constructive".

Son? Really? Think you were looking for the word medium by the way. But yeah definitely thread locking time. Unfortunate but it is what it is.

I think Jason and the guys need to just realize that most of the people who buy their product aren't programmers or code writing specialists. But they have the right to be mad and bitch and moan if the product has issues or flat out doesn't work.I work in the oilfield. I bought their products. All of em I could get off steam anyways. I had issues from day one. I posted a rant. I got was basically told to stop whining and go masturbate. Real mature.

Anyway I love your game and I seem to have it running pretty good. But don't complain about customers complaining that's kinda the way life works. It's freezing here in northern Alberta six months of the year too, but if we produced petroleum products that didn't work in someone's vehicle after they bought a tank of gas, do you think they wouldn't be pissed off ?

Again I can't say it enough LOVE your game. As long as it keeps improving I'll keep buying!

Customers always right even if he's a moron and completely wrong! Maybe it's a communication misunderstanding on both sides. Other week I bought some hardware from a Russian guy and after having initially a great feeling about the company, I ended up never wanting to do business with him again because of how he spoke to me in our last email correspondence. It wasn't as if he insulted my mother or anything but he became contemptuous and argumentative and left me feeling rather bewildred as to what happened.

All I said was basically that I thought the software and hardware that I bought were both two parts of the same product, but the guy seemed to think I was unhappy with the product and claiming I had been ripped off. In fact I was very happy with the product and up until that point, the service too, I was just making a small minor complaint or suggestion!

It might sound silly but 'the customer IS always right' is and has forever been a business practice and philosophy that is above all in the businesses and not the customers best interest. The thing is I think though flight simulators are so niche that the customers are in a sellers market, and if you don't like it, close the door on your way out!

Customers are whiny and annoying and just plain ignorant and wrong (especially when it comes to software developement) but fighting fire with fire is unnessary and won't help matters imo. People really were very prasingly complimentary but just giving I think what they felt was feedback for areas in which things could be improved. In many forums developers actively demand and want this from their customers. If it's not possible, and reasons are politely explained, everyone will get along.

I would like someone else to confirm this if anyone is willing. This is test with normal monitor, so not an VR related issue, this impacts everyone. Well or at least it's something I'd like someone else to check.

Use 'H' by default to turn HUD on and off.

With Ultra(tried High, impact is same just different numbers) settings HUD eats up 40-50 fps!!!

So for me FPS on 1070gtx goes from avg85 to avg 130 on the deck at airfield.

Something is seriously wrong in programming code if displaying server and chat messages eats up 50 frames (about 40% performance degradation).

If I am not only one, this is serious issue that need to be looked at. It's ok to fly offline with HUD off (do it anyhow), but online it's important to be able to see messages from server and other players.

Hope Devs know about this or see it soon since it is just ridiculous that one or two transparent onscreen widgets can eat up 40% or performance, and it is really felt in head tracking smoothness too, it's stutters a bit with HUD on regardless of 80ish frames, but is much smoother, near perfect with HUD off.

EDIT: Forgot to add it's at 1440p resolution if that matters, maybe it's less noticeable at 1080p...

The same for me! With HUD, microstottern, low FPS. Without Hud much FPS, more fluid game.

After every update a new surprise ...It pisses me off!

Weird ... After reading all this I finally tried it myself: 0 (that is zero, null, no) difference in framerate with or without HUD. Running on Ultra, GTX 980 in case that matters. Reading the fps from the built-in counter. Independent from having techno chat on or off. Are you possibly talking about something affecting only VR users? Or where else could the difference be?

Edit: 1080p, I forgot to say

That problem has always been there, but now we have a way to work around it. No reason to be pissed off.

Sorry, what did you say?

What can I do?

Disable the hud when you don't need it.

I also didn't notice any difference. How others can bothers me.

In the announcement Han mentions, that it is a performance boost for slower PCs. Maybe your PCs, are faster ones, that got more benefits from the introduction of DX11, where the slower ones did not benefit that much.

Hi all,

try to look from cockpit into the blue sky ...frame boost for me here about 50- 60 FPS.Switch the HUD on and off to see the boost.

At 4K Ultra setting with GTX 980 Ti

Normal on ground arround120 FPS ...with HUD on or off  center view in cockpit

Use the MSI Afterburner as frame counter..also for frametimes .!

Regards

It could be the HUD has a larger impact on performance in VR due to the way it is displayed in VR.

From the 2.009 Update Release Notes:

<<< 3. Hiding the in-game HUD (H key) now stops most GUI routines, which can double your FPS in some situations. You can use this to get a performance boost while playing on a slower PC>>>

If one already has a fairly powerful PC playing on a 2d monitor, they probably won't see a big difference if any, like VR might in displaying the HUD.

I know for me in VR, it is a very significant difference.

Ok so I'm definitely experiencing what at least *seems like* a major performance bug since the last big patch that's related to the HuD but also using the in-game menus. First off, I'm not playing with VR mode turned on. When I first load a mission I'm riding high at 60 fps. But as soon as I toggle the HUD, turn icons on or off, or even access the "basic options" menu, my FPS is permanently reduced to 30-35 fps max, with extreme dips into the teens. Turning HUD or icons off at this point doesn't return the FPS to normal -- the only thing that fixes the low fps is a total restart.

The only way to keep my FPS at a smooth 60 is to load into the game and do absolutely NOTHING with the HUD or menus ... which obviously is extremely impractical and is currently preventing me from enjoying the game. I'm not sure if this is what you guys are experiencing but what what I'm encountering definitely feels like a bug. Especially since none of this happened before the 2.009 update. Thoughts?

Well we are now on game version 3.002 , has been a while since we were on 2.009.

Flying in VR it has been my experience they have improved somewhat the game performance with the HUD on since 2.009, but it is still a bit of a hit. For that reason I fly with the HUD hidden, but toggle icons on and off with very little change in performance. But the few times I do toggle the HUD on and then off, my fps returns to normal when I do.

You might consider trying a fresh install of the game and see if that helps in your case.

Maybe even try a fresh install of your video card drivers, if running Nvidia try uninstalling the drivers wit DDU ( Display Driver Uninstaller), then install latest Nvidia drivers installing only the driver itself and PhysX, none of that other stuff like GeForce Experience or anything else.

VR provides unique ability to read 'real' cockpit instruments at a glance, so try to use it!

The author of the Release Notes ignores the fact that HUD is also required to read online chat messages and server information. Fly without HUD in online mission and you will miss a lot of useful information. When a new message appears in chat you get a sound notification so you can turn the HUD on to read it but it's not the case with messages from the server. The latter is more important because it tells you when your ground units are under attack so you can react. Without HUD you just miss that while screen users with the HUD turned on all the time have everything on a plate.

I fly no hud as much as possible, i Got used to it flying in my old rig where I only got 40fps with the hud off... when it was on it brought FPS down to 25...

performance wise on my new rig I find no difference.  I get over 100+ FPS no matter what.  I only use it to check chat and see if there are any messages from ground or mission complete in sp...

I don’t fly vr though.

I don’t like having to turn it and off.   The player/kill/wounded/on-fire-bailing-out chat notification “ping” got annoying so turned that off..

It covers too much of screen with technochat aswell...

 So turned that off...

also with 3.001-2 it has a delay or momentary freeze effect during play...

so it’s off until necessary..

I wish it could just be simplified... Chat repositioned to corners...less effects...

on the other hand, the hud details can be very informative for those not as experienced, for complex engine management ( colour coded icons for easy recognition of component in control). damage to engine that’s not noticeable right away... compass(if you can’t get low enough to see under the Russian gunsights )...

Anywho,  low end system I had, big impact on fps...

new system, no issues but with recent update.

I have no first account with vr.... yet..

I've set up my gui options so that tech chat, hints, and hud instruments are off, but I can leave the the HUD on for the chat window only

@2nd_Lt_Trotsky: Hi, may I ask what system are you currently running - CPU and GPU / RAM / VRAM?

- Did you follow the suggestions from Jason concerning stuttering problems?

- Graphical settings in the game?

Cheers
