baka Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) Just purchased IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad (not from steam as there website has a sale on) and so far its been nothing but frustrating and I am yet to get past the login screen. I get error #2 Error 2 - Connection lost with master-server followed often by the game locking up and requiring me to shut it down. If I had purchased this though steam it would have been refunded by now. Has anyone else had this issue? Review so far.. Login screen sucks 0/7 Can someone help please! **EDIT** SOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM with big thanks to 71st_AH_Mastiff Ensure windows firewall exception is public and privacy allowed for the game both icons launcher and exe. How I fixed... Click start Start Type Windows firewall Click on allow apps to communicate though windows firewall Find IL-2 in list If private AND public are not checked then press change settings top right and tick both boxes Enjoy Edited April 13, 2017 by baka
Jason_Williams Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Make sure you update the game via the launcher first. We just put out an update. Assuming you have done that, make sure you have an unobstructed internet connection. Check anti-virus and firewall settings. I'm also assuming your computer is powerful enough to run the game. There are many factors at play and without knowing your particular setup it's hard to say what the issue is, but it's not our product. Something else is wrong. Jason
baka Posted April 12, 2017 Author Posted April 12, 2017 I have an I7 GTX1080 (HTCvive) with an internet connection that is stable and working perfectly with with everything else other than logging in to this game. The game launcher is updated and checked several times. I am not running any other firewall If I type in my password incorrectly it gives me an error message saying that the password is incorrect If I type in my password correctly it gives me error message #2 Connection lost with master-server Very much feels like an issue your end or at the very least poor error handling messages sent to the end user. Loved this game back in the day, had set aside the night to play it in VR and have had zero joy thus far. Anything else I could check?
Jason_Williams Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Write to support. I don't have any other suggestions for you. Jason
baka Posted April 12, 2017 Author Posted April 12, 2017 I did that first, still waiting for a response. I see many posts about this dating back many years, worries me that its still an issue. Can't even play in offline mode. Does the steam version still require this login? If not I will just pick it up there Thanks
Finkeren Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) Sounds like a bugged install, maybe try a reinstall? Don't worry. We'll get you through this issue. What you're experiencing is not normal, the sim is generally rock solid (if you plan on using VR expect a few bugs though, they just started to support VR yesterday) Edited April 12, 2017 by Finkeren 1
Bearfoot Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) I remember getting this message constantly for about 8-12 hours several months ago. It was the connection it seems (and maybe not my connection per se, but something in the links of the connection between my computer and the main server, e.g., a shark biting a cable), or the server being down/clogged/something else. It fixed itself eventually, because everything was back to the normal the next day. I could still access the game in offline mode, though. I guess you cannot do that because your activation is not complete? Edited April 12, 2017 by Bearfoot
Finkeren Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 BTW: The reason you'll find many posts about "connection to master server lost"-issues, is that this happens for a couple of hours every time a new update to the game is released. It's completely normal, but there are always a couple of guys who are unaware and make a post about it. That's obviously not the case here. Your issue is different.

Is there a validation check on the patcher?
Finkeren Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 One thing occurs to me: Have you activated your purchase here at the site?

I had same problems with logging in game since yesterday(when update arrived) and i think servers are busy cos everybody downloading update, today it was a little better since there is another update(yesterdays update hotfix).OP don't give up game is great, try later or tomorrow and you may contact support if nothing works. Yeah and don't start it throught steam, run it from il2.exe. Good luck and see you in the air!
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) might try logging in to see if your up and running yet make sure seed while downloading is off. is this the same baka from WT? Edited April 12, 2017 by 71st_AH_Mastiff
unreasonable Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 I did that first, still waiting for a response. I see many posts about this dating back many years, worries me that its still an issue. Can't even play in offline mode. Does the steam version still require this login? If not I will just pick it up there Thanks Steam version generally requires the same login if you want to play campaign or MP, but Steam updates works better than the company server - faster and fewer hangs/glitches - in my experience. I always start through Steam, and have never had a problem. I suggest patience and see if it resolves itself as the server frees up more time. If you cannot get a resolution in couple of days and are desperate to play, try the Steam version: it works just fine.
metalnwood Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Just installed today and currently have the same thing, firewalls all turned off. I will give it a little while and see if it comes right. I am not using the steam version and assume that it automatically update from the launcher as I dont see any option to force an update check.
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 I just logged in to verify that things are working and the server seems to be fine. Auto-update happens via the launcher, yes, so if there is an update it should pop right up. Definitely open a ticket with support. Remember the team is small and there isn't a big support team but they have always proven helpful in my experience. IL-2 is a really great product so bear with the technical inconvenience... I'm sure support will have you up and running in no time!
metalnwood Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Thanks, will do. As a long time il2 player who has been holding off for VR, I can wait a bit longer
baka Posted April 13, 2017 Author Posted April 13, 2017 I have just done and fresh reinstall of the game and tried to login again at a time I consider to be none peak time with the same issue. If my password is incorrect I am told so but if its correct it just gives me error #2. I can login via the website and can see my purchase and key activated.

Okay, I think you've done what you can on your own then. Definitely a job for support. Sorry, you had to get a rough start like this. I'm sure you won't regret your purchase once you get to try it out though.
SYN_Skydance Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Have you tried to launch the game without your Vive plugged in? If it lets you in, you can then go into settings/graphics and check/tick the VR box. Restart the the game with the Vive plugged back in. It's worth a shot

If it lets you in, you can then go into settings/graphics and check/tick the VR box. Restart the the game with the Vive plugged back in. It's worth a shot Thanks for the suggestion but it did not work. Will wait for support to get back to me I suspect something funky is going on with my account. I did use my google account to create my account (sometime I don't normally do but I wanted to get into the game asap) maybe something got lost in translation there... Will let you know what support say and hopefully It will be sorted soon
JustAPigeon7 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Same problem here, this is very frustrating. I contacted support but got the generic "check your firewalls" reply. I've already tried all that, turned my firewalls off completely with no effect. It's getting rather annoying now.
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Like was stated earlier, its kind of impossible to know exactly what is wrong when you won't list your system specs to even report if you have minimum settings or a system that is capable of running it. What virus scanners? Latest avast has been blocking a lot of programs lately this past 2 months of avast updates have been very constricting.

Let me know what information you need and an email address and I will send it. Im WIN10/windows defender/standard firewall. This is not an issue of the game not running, its an issue of not being able to log into our account to even get into the game. I would expect you can do that with any old potato (but my pc well above min specs) Still waiting patently for support to respond to my ticket
baka Posted April 13, 2017 Author Posted April 13, 2017 Just got support ticket, to save anyone else time it says... Before authorizing: - check the settings of the Security (antivirus, firewall, UAC ...) Make sure that they are not blocking the exchange of data with the server - make sure that the update is successfully completed - make sure you have Administrator privileges for your Windows account - make all the game ports in the exceptions your router and security tools Authorization requires ports 80 and 443. Multiplayer mode uses TCP – 28000, UDP – 28000, Downloader Port (TCP) – 28100. - try to use direct cable connection to PC - perhaps it makes sense to update the router firmware I really don't understand how I can connect to the server for it to tell me my password is incorrect (if I enter it wrong) but somehow when I enter the correct password I have lost connection to the server. Been looking forward to this game in VR for a while now, real shame
metalnwood Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 I got the same thing and what stuck out as I knew the firewalls were OK was admin priv. I ran as administrator and it worked first time.
ShamrockOneFive Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Such a strange issue to be cropping up. I wonder if it has anything to do with new user accounts seeing as the long time players aren't seeing this. I'd want to watch the whole transaction process server side if I were the server admin. There's got to be some evidence of what is happening. I remember having to deal with something a bit like this for a eLearning web-app I was doing support for. Most people were fine but people on a specific brand of laptop had a certain transport protocol disabled and they couldn't get in despite passing all of the tests. That took me a while to figure out! Hopefully they can suss out what is going on here.
JustAPigeon7 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 I feel like I've tried everything on my end, I wonder if it's an ISP issue? On another thread I found someone mentioned that the login server is located at il2bos1.s3.amazonaws.com Is this correct? I'm able to ping the server no problem.
dburne Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Hopefully support will get you guys up and running sooner rather than later, I know it has to be frustrating but hang in there best you can, it is worth the frustration.
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 (edited) -snip- you won't list your system specs -snip- It's a login issue. Maybe he didn't list them because it's superfluous information..? Edited April 13, 2017 by Space_Ghost

JustAPigeon7 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 let me check my startup.config master server; il2bosrd1.s3.amazonaws.com Thanks, I checked and can ping that also. Interestingly, in my startup.cfg there's a section on proxies proxy_name = "alpha.il2sturmovik.net:443" I'm not able to ping that particular server. I've tried setting "use_proxy = 0" which has no effect.

Who's your ISP? I'm with Virgin media. I'd contact their support to see if there's a problem on their end, but I don't feel like queuing on the phone for hours...
dburne Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Have you tried adding IL-2 as an exclusion in Defenders settings to see if that maybe helps? I would add both the Launcher and IL-2 exe's. Shot in the dark but may be worth a try...

baka Posted April 13, 2017 Author Posted April 13, 2017 Game seems to lock up after a few seconds in quick mission, can hear the plane crash in the back ground, screen frozen. I'm used to VR stuff being buggy, at least I'm past the login screen now, will keep an eye out for the next patch, my 5 seconds of flight looked promising though. Nice to see all the dials clearly after all those hours in the A10C
JustAPigeon7 Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Glad you finally got in! Tried what you suggested but it didn't work for me, sadly. I'm not giving up!
baka Posted April 13, 2017 Author Posted April 13, 2017 Sorry to hear that. Just had 30 mins on it and this time it was much more stable. It's definitely worth trying to fix. Best of luck! 1
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 (edited) Your welcome and Welcome to IL-2 Sturmovik BOS Series! I'm waiting for the price drops on a HTC Vive, as I have demo'ed the OR, and Vive and for some reason don't know why; I like the Vive better. Edited April 13, 2017 by 71st_AH_Mastiff
