dburne Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Hey gang, As I was setting up Steam VR yesterday for my Rift, I ran into a little snag. During the setup I chose room scale, and no matter what I did when I got to the point of squeezing the trigger on my controller whilst walking around to mark the boundaries, it never seemed to recognize the trigger press. I tried it with both the right and then the left Touch controller. I can see the controllers virtually as I walk around, but can not get it to set it up. So in my haste to get Steam VR set up and running so I could check out VR in my Rift for this great sim, I elected to do the fixed position and set it up that way. All seems to be working just fine for this sim. But now that I have had to install Steam VR ( had never used it before), I eventually may want to add some more VR content that runs only through Steam VR. And some I will need to be able to set up my play area appropriately for the games that will need it. So what am I missing here? I tried re-running setup a couple of times before giving up as I wanted just to fly. Any other Rift owners able to get this set up properly for room scale with the Touch controllers? Thanks for any tips,
mrvile Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 When I was setting up my Rift Touch for SteamVR, I sort of ran into a similar problem and it required me to try a couple times to get it to work. Make sure your SteamVR tray recognizes all of your components before you run the setup. Room scale setup was straightforward but not necessarily smooth (for me), both Oculus and SteamVR room scale setups took a little bit of persistence to get working. However once it works, it works pretty well. Google Earth VR is amazing on the Rift, even though it's "Vive exclusive."
dburne Posted April 12, 2017 Author Posted April 12, 2017 Ok thanks, will try and give it another go in a bit. I had no trouble at all setting up my play area in the Oculus software, for some reason in the Steam VR it was giving me fits. Like it was just not recognizing the trigger presses.
Zenchess Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 I ran into this same issue, and the fix for me was to make sure that the sensor that tells the rift whether your head is in the display or not must be activated. Usually you can get this to fire by putting the rift on your head and adjust it until that sensor is activated. It has something to do with the rift sleeping not letting the controllers work.
Boris_Putz Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 I had the same problem. Steam says to carry the HMD while mapping the space, not to wear it (Oculus just needs the controller). I assume the Vive stays 'awake' while you carry it. I guess I'll try it again with my thumb in front of the sensor. Thanks for the tip.
