Gambit21 Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 ....outstanding. I have a 60hz IPS panel for content creation, so I'm limited to 60fps. With my new GTX 1080 the frame rate is pinned at a constant 60fps - the exception being 10 Ju52's taking off at once and kicking up snow, I get a momentary drop there. All in all I'm very happy. I decided to go ahead and throw the 1080 in this afternoon on my current i5 2500k build rather than waiting for the new Ryzen box that I'll be building soon. I'll take 4K and 60fps over 1440 and 120 fps. (I purposefully made this choice, as I easily could have gone with the higher refresh TN panel) I need the superior color rendition and resolution for my 3D work, etc. I agonized over this choice for a while, but I'm glad I went with the color rendition and resolution over higher refresh rates.
CanadaOne Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 I'm almost jealous. That must make for a pretty picture.
GrendelsDad Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Great choice Gambit. I can hardly tell a difference between 60hz or 100+hz. 4k is amazing.

Gambit, What 4K monitor are you running? Jason
Gambit21 Posted April 12, 2017 Author Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) Jason - LG 27ud68-w I got it new for $300 on Craig's List (the guy bought 2 but only used one after he found out his desk was overwhelmed with both) Even at full price I think it's one of the best bang for the buck 4K IPS panels out there. Edit - and the minor, momentary FPS drop is one a circular Moscow map at that (which I just read your other post about) 10 Ju52's all spooled up and kicking up snow. Edited April 12, 2017 by Gambit21
SharpeXB Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 This game looks quite stunning in 4K. You can make out all the textures on the ground and ice on the rivers. Read all your cockpit instruments and all the tiny letters too.

Got one and it broke after only 2months and half. Now I have a Samsung 28'' 4K LU28E590DS/ZA since 4-5 months. The LG image was very nice but sadly it stop to work very soon. =VARP=Cygann Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Why not use 144Hz 1440p monitor that is IPS? I mean, you're not locked to TN panel if you wish higher refresh rates or gsync and freesync tech. 4k is nice, but for me 60hz lock is no longer acceptable, I can clearly see the difference between 60 and 120 or more Hz in an instant and it bothers me much more then pixel density difference between 2k and 4k given that monitor size is same. Of course, IPS all the way, would not like to go back to TN even if it's a good one.

Of course, IPS all the way, would not like to go back to TN even if it's a good one. I don't need the higher refresh rates at this point - and I'd rather have the resolution. I'm glad I went 4k - if you did what I do you'd want 4k too. I'm not a first person twitch gamer, 60 fps is fine for me still at this point for what I do. Also, in real life things blur slightly when they move, so I'm fine with my game looking the same way. Drive down the highway and look at the guard rail, the tree your passing, the sign...even if you focus there's a blur. 120hz etc lends a "hyper" , sort of super power clarity that while neat in a way, is not reflective of real life necessarily. Thus I'm fine not becoming normalized to those higher refresh rates yet - and I couldn't pass up the deal on this monitor. In some years when a 144hz g-sync IPS panel is reasonable then I'll see. JG1_Labroisse Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 (edited) Gambit, If you haven't already, try turning Vsync off in game, and set Vsync to "fast" in the nvidia control panel. works like a charm and I'm getting average 90-100 fps with no screen tearing at 4k res. Also using GTX 1080. Edited April 13, 2017 by II./JG1_Labroisse
Gambit21 Posted April 14, 2017 Author Posted April 14, 2017 I haven't Labroisse, I'll give that a go next time I boot it up...thank you!

=VARP=Cygann Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 (edited) It all comes down to the fat that you're happy with your decision mate. Just wanted to add it's not about twitch games only that I'd go with higher refresh rates. 60Hz limit bothered me since LCD took over from CRT, and ever since I hoped someone among manufacturers goes down the 'more is better' line even if for just PR. Now that they reached 120Hz (one true point where I still notice the difference when frames go under, at 120 or above I personally don't notice it much any longer) I am truly happy with LCD tech. Yes panel quality, colors, view angles, bleeds and glows and what not will improve over time, but it's the refresh rate that I missed ever since 100Hz+ 21" CRT's vanished. 2k,4k,8k, etc... hell yeah, bring it all on, but I do not go below 120Hz ever again...I hope . P.S. yes, I had to make small tweaks to keep IL2 at 120 fps, but that 'easier on the eyes' smoothness is more important to me then any visual effect. I would hope once day we have more control over IL2 settings instead of current presets so I can tweak 4k until I'm steady at this refresh rates. Edited May 16, 2017 by EAF_CyClops
