My thought was to wait for the next generation of VR's. But I am not sure I can wait now.

Which VR is the best for this game?

HTC Vive

or

Oculus Rift Dk2

Thanks,

go with the oculus rift CV1 (NOT DK2) thats what ive heard is best anyway. but if those are your only two options than go for the VIVE instead of the DK2 rift

I just bought the vive today. From what i can tell the setup is a bit more tedious. You will need to find high places to put the receivers (drill a wall or get a tripod). It looks like the rift is simpler but doesnt donthe whole room thing as well.

The controllers are amazing though, i cant wait to explore this whole vr thing more.

That is why I went with the Vive, the controllers came with it and it does room scale..not that we need it in a flight sim. But I may play FPS too. As far as how it works in game I think they are about the same. Pilots I fly with use the CV1 and the Vive and as far as I know the Vive has a little more FOV but other than that I guess overall performance is roughly the same.

I've tried both oculus and vive. I bought a vive because I enjoy the superior room-scale entertainment. However at least in Warthunder the oculus had better image clarity at the expense of a slightly smaller fov. (increased sweet spot)

If you're primarily interested in flying games I'd probably by the oculus rift however if you have a beast PC then a vive at high SS settings is pretty on par with the rift's image quality.

My honest opinion :)

I can get the DK2 version. Why is the CV1 better? The DK2 has higher resolution.

Thanks all for your replies.

I don't think the DK2 has a higher resolution.

I wouldn't recommend either DK. Like old phones etc it will increasingly resemble a brick as Oculus software updates ignore it, along with any dev support. It might provide a quick hit, but it will only either disappoint or leave you hankering for more in which case you've wasted money either way. Cut out the pain and go for a consumer version, you might need to spend a little longer saving your pennies but it'll be worth it.

Scrap that idea immediately.

Oculus ended all support for the DK2 in March of 2016. It was a developmental build as they were designing/refining the final consumer version, which is the CV1. It may have a higher FOV but not resolution.

As Oculus continues to update their runtimes eventually it will get to where even trying to run a DK2 with anything will be very problematic , if at all.

Trust me on this, it would not be worth the savings and you would eventually regret it and probably sooner rather than later.

Please dont go with DK2, go ahead and buy a used CV1 if you need to save money :D as said above, DK2 support was stopped since it was intended only for developers

I went with the rift as all my research led me to believe it's comfort and slight fidelity "improvement" was better for Sims than the ViVe.

Also, the cost was far more palatable at the time.

Now, I bought the touch controllers and can play room scale too (3m x3 m)

But the majority of the games I play are seated as no standing games really have any major longevity apart from perhaps the Doom3 user rebuild.

Thanks for the advice.

I will go for the Oculus Ruft CV1 then.

I much prefer the Oculus Touch controllers to the Vive controllers. They are much more ergonomic and the finger tracking is an awesome novelty.

That being said, these days both systems are very close to each other from a hardware standpoint, and you can pretty much run all games with either headset. The Vive is now 15% lighter than the initial models and is a bit more comfortable. The Rift now has a great Touch system.

The biggest reason that I went with Oculus is because it's cheaper, and my apartment is a too small to really take advantage of the room scale stuff that Vive does a bit better. But with Touch and 3+ sensors, Oculus room scale is getting very good as well.
