Bearfoot Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I have an Oculus Rift. Read the tips, and followed all the steps, including tutorial etc. Everything works great, in the game and out. However, I find that the cursor disappears and does not come back. In particular: when first launching IL2, there is no cursor in the login screen. I "blindly" hit ENTER, then the screen disappears and comes back and this time there is a spinning cursor. I get through the login and the cursor is there normally --- can pick all the menu items etc. I launch a quick mission, fly etc. and exit. And now there is no cursor rendered. I think it is there, because moving my mouse around randomly sometimes ends up highlighting an option as if the cursor is hovering over it, but no cursor is visible. Anyone experiencing this?
Bearfoot Posted April 11, 2017 Author Posted April 11, 2017 Update: It appears at least partially related to having multiple mouse devices. I have a left-hand roller ball mouse and a normal optical mouse. Disabling one or the other improves the issue: I can launch and go through multiple missions without a problem. But then, even with only one mouse device enabled (and other switched off), at some point the cursor render disappears. Again, it appears to be virtually present, as I can highlight and select items blindly, but it is just not rendered.
Monostripezebra Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 also happens with non-vr: After re-playing some quick missions in offline mode, my mouse courser disapears permanently.. together with other gui-element bugs, light staying menue highlights and all technochat-messages over another in top left corner.
C6_LaBomba Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Hi folks I confirm the same issues: my mouse cursor is disappearing suddenly, some of the GUI elements move to the top left corner...and I don't have any VR seems to be a common bug then...
Bearfoot Posted April 11, 2017 Author Posted April 11, 2017 Update: it appears that the disabling of the second mouse was red herring. However, setting my screen resolution to match the VR resolution 1200x800 *seems* to have fixed it for now? But then, this does not explain the issues you folks without VR are facing ....
Bearfoot Posted April 11, 2017 Author Posted April 11, 2017 Update: nope, problem still there. Definite improvement with setting resolution to 1200x800 in that it does not occur in previously places that it did, and it takes longer to manifest, but do not know if this is coincidental or not.
dburne Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I have not had any cursor issues so far running in the Rift, all solid for me.
Bearfoot Posted April 12, 2017 Author Posted April 12, 2017 I had the HUD off, so did not notice till just now. But it appears that, indeed, the cursor disappearing plus the squashing/over-printing of the HUD "techno-messages" are connected: they both occur together.
[Pb]OlikiVS Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 I found a solution to this problem that was driving me crazy! I am a non-VR user who had vanishing mouse and HUD corner clutter issues like Bearfoot and C6_LaBomba. Go to the game's install directory where the "IL-2.exe" file is located: Non-Steam will be something like - "C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Moscow\bin\game" Steam will be something like - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Moscow\bin\game" Find the "IL-2.exe" file and right click, choose "Properties" from the bottom of the drop-down menu. Then click on the "Compatibility" tab. Under the "Settings" header, ensure the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" checkbox is ticked. This solved the problem for me. It seems the in-game GUI is prone to incorrectly scaling even when the game and screen resolution are correctly set.

This would solve multiple issues --- possibly DCS as well, which has a borked cursor if the desktop font scaling is > 125%. I take it the above is in Windows 7? Because in Windows 10, the options are structured differently, and, in my case, it seems that the option is already selected. http://imgur.com/SUMCAHc That is, the above is how things are by default, and with this setting the problem definitely occurs. The plot thickens... I am on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, although not up to date! https://blogs.windows.com/buildingapps/2017/04/04/high-dpi-scaling-improvements-desktop-applications-windows-10-creators-update/#22b3qwoCPTcf1Jmv.97 This link seems to explain how Bearfoot's current setting is the same as mine (windows update changed the options). The only other fix I attempted (which by itself didn't stop the problem) was to ensure the resolutions in the game's "startup.cfg" file were set to my native 2560x1440 for both fullscreen AND windowed modes (which is, logically, by default smaller). I would hope my previous fix works for single-screen users, but I have a feeling that the complexities of a multi-screen/VR setup are too much for an easy solution. I can only recommend VR users with continuing issues try the various "Override high DPI scaling..." options, and maybe even the "Disable fullscreen optimizations" checkbox. I have a feeling this might be one for the developers...
Retnek Posted April 13, 2017 Posted April 13, 2017 Very good hint for the non-VR-pilots. I checked my properties of "il2.exe", and the compatibility-setting "Override high DPI scaling ..." was not set. I activated it and chose "Application". Restarted the Il2-launcher, fired up 5 times a "quick mission" - mouse ok, those symbols remained on the right hand side - so there's hope! Being curious a bit more I re-activated "sharpen" in my graphics settings, because I had it active during my previous tests. And there the bug was again, 50% change to provoke it - what the f...? I deactivated "sharpen" again, sadly the bug remained, too. Don't know if it has been an effect just by chance, but activating that compatibility option at least for a certain time might have had an effect.
Bearfoot Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 So, after a couple of hours last night, and cycling through a few quick missions, it appears that this issue has been fixed: so far, am unable to replicate any of the problems on this thread ... (tentative, cautious) YAY!!! :)
twgin Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Re-awakening this thread... I fly VR with a Vive. When starting up the game mouse cursor is there to choose all menus and options, etc. but when inside the cockpit no mouse cursor or function... when I switch to outside view I can use mouse for free camera rotate and up and down, zoom in and out, but nothing in cockpit. Is this as it should be ? had a mouse and a track ball, unplugged the trackball, went into il2.exe properties and checked the "override high DPI" box (windows 10, 64), no change in game behavior... Terry
HunDread Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Yew, box is not like clod where you can click cockpit instruments. There is no mouse in cockpit in box.
Madmancane Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I still have this problem in win 10 and oculus rift. Tried the dpi scaling and other tips in this thread but no effect. Menus are in a mess in one corner and no mouse.. please fix this il2 team!
