Great update, looks like VR impacted like an sc2500!

If it cannot be fixed in time, a rollback before easter holydays would be great.

dear devs one question, is the changelog complete??

cause either my friends and me are paranoid, or you did change the FM of at least the 109 F4...in a good way

First impression after 2h testing on CV1 - The best Sim games VR implementation so far.

Absolutely agreee. DCS is great too, but somehow BOS implementation is sharper, and smoother. Also, the cockpit limits and the bump sounds when you hit them is brilliant. Thanks Devs!!

Sounds like another excellent update overall - nice going devs!

As for the handful of negative comments, just wow.  This brand spanking new, major patch has been out for only a handful of HOURS, guys.  It's hardly the 1st new patch to have a few bugs.  Try not to let impatience & [VERY] short memory drive your comments.

Take a breath, post your issues, and remain calm.  It'll all be ok, just might have to [*gasp*] wait a little bit.  ;)

VR better than I expected. Amazing stuff. Performance is fine at SS1.5 for me (can't wait to check every graphic setting to see what to turn off). Zoom is... perfect. Sharpness... best idea ever, I can even read the smallest text in the cockpit.

I honestly haven't played the game in a long time waiting for VR. Jumping into this from WT is simply an eye-opener. I only own BOS so far, but that's about to change very soon  ;)

And now that I've seen what you guys are capable of, I'm willing to buy RoF again (already own all of it) just for VR.

I wish there was actual testing before releasing a patch...

There was, so there's no need for the sarcastic comments. We don't have any control on how the release version is compiled.

Be pleasant or it will be removed. Your post was overly sarcastic and mean spirited.

Jason

Remove head movement limits removes the sound.

Jason

I found the setting but its deactivated by default. Still the movement is restricted. Also activating and deactivating again doesnt make a diffrence.

I don't know about you, but performance enhancements and eye candy are always good in my book. Are we not trying "simulate" what we see naturally here or have I been living an illusion for 18 years? I want to see the FM changes as well.....but really? This is a huge step forward, why piss on it?

Not "pissing on it" just asking about something that affects us all, not just those that have VR gear, and the few, like me for which it will never work owing to eyesight issues.

It's cool that it has been implemented and perhaps it will lead to more sales, which is a very good thing.

That said the control issue is serious, as has been mentioned, this is a sim, and this issue really prevents many realistic aircraft behaviors from being properly portrayed.  And yes, I was under the impression that it would be implemented fairly soon, sadly this is not the case.

I can't launch the game in VR.  Using the vive.  Whenever I go to launch the game from the launcher, SteamVR status indicates "(unresponsive) Il2.exe" then IL2 crashes.  I have tried restarting everything, but the issue is persistent.  Can anyone provide guidance?

What eyesight issues? I wear reading glasses with my vive with no issues. My wife is damn near blind in one eye but she can appreciate the virtual world unlike 3D which is a no-go for her.

Try disabling overlays, someone reported that an overclocking & temperatures overlay tool caused IL-2 crashing on start.

Ok got my issue trying to run the game in my Rift figured out.

I was starting SteamVR before starting the game ( which is what I thought I should do).

So I tried it by not launching SteamVR myself, launched the game first - then Steam VR launched on it's own and voila I had VR!!

Just ran a very brief flight in the Yak-1 - High Settings, SSAO and HDR on, and Pixel Density set for my Rift of 1.5.

It never dropped below the 90 fps so ASW had not kicked in. Now that was just me alone, but that was very impressive.

Going to try on Ultra settings next time and see what happens.

Anyone else having trouble getting IL2 to start at all from Steam?

Just installed it from scratch (due to my original purchase purely for VR support not quite living up to expectations) but eager to get back in the action.

However, every time I try and run the game it says "Running first time setup" and tries to install the Microsoft VC redistributable package - after that, nothing. Just closes and the game changes from "running" to nothing in Steam.

Just running Windows Defender but tried disabling that.

Verified integrity of the files and rebooted - the same issue... Even tried running the installed files from:
D:\Steam\steamapps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover\_CommonRedist

Running Windows 10 (1607)
GTX1080 with drivers version 381.65
I was in the SteamVR Beta although I'm not even trying to run it in VR mode yet, but regardless I've opted out of the beta.

EDIT: Should I be opting into the IL2 beta to get these updates?

No, you don't. Maybe a simple PC restart would help?

"Verified integrity of the files and rebooted - the same issue..."

Tried twice now.

Not got the best internet connection in the world but uninstalled and reinstalling - will see how it goes.

Oh, is there a log file I can check or enable? Developer myself so capable of understanding enough to help myself a little.

And... I have both the Rift and Vive plugged in... but again, not even got it started once to even have the option of enabling VR yet.

Testing on Berloga, there is a costant stuttering, a strange stuttering. Worst than before. Not VR here.

Great job devs, VR is really great!
Super performance with my gtx970 - no stutters, its butter smooth!

HOWEVER, a very strange thing:
The planes are very different in size!

The Fw190 cockpit looks about 60% of its normal size, its sooo tiny!

And the Mig on the other hand looks about 120% you feel like a dwarf.

Really strange - one would think that all the planes would be looking bigger or smaller but the different models do vary in extreme fashion

Does anyone else experiance the same`?

The He111 looks about right, didn't test the other planes though.

Yes, I had that too, but the stuttering disappeared after a few PC restarts. Also there were 40 people on Berloga the time I went in (and they are all in your visible bubble with an insane amount of shells/explosions/fires going on) so that causes issues too

i think i am noticing the same thing, no VR, no changed hardware, drivers, options, only difference is the new update 2.009 and it feels somehow a little stuttery, especially around airfields and when turning around the head to the sides in the cockpit (with trackIR), even if there are no other players. which is weird, considering the changelog does mention they reduced some particle stuff and the performance actually should be optimized a bit. feels a little weird.

what definitely feels a lot more sluggish for me now is the (O)bjectives map view, it opens weird (for a second i can see the map very small in the top left corner of my screen, before it opens fullscreen with all buttons etc.) and the movement is very stuttery and slower than before the update.

since i don't have VR, the positive aspects of the patch are not that big, but i am confident that the kinks and bugs are being worked out and i am already looking forward to the next patch :D

No, is the same with lesser players (14 - 20). This didn't happen before this update.

This stuttering is related to the new Dynamic resolution option, i'm afraid. It's smoother only disabling the Vsync.

Almost unplayable in this way.

Thanks, I did have to disable some things to get it going.  However, now I am having the 'stuck on loading issue' but I will keep troubleshooting.  Can't wait to test this update!!!

but according to the changelog "dynamic resolution" is completely disabled when you set it to 1.0, so this should not affect performance. but i agree that something is different, as i described above in my earlier posting.

Hmm, the dynamic resolution option should have no interference when set to full. As I said, I had it before and it disappeared again (I had the same issues when DX11 was introduced and they somehow ironed out over time). Have you tried a full reinstall for example if some restarts did not help? Maybe wait for tomorrow and try again?

Wow, have increased my Graphics to Ultra, and upped my Pixel Density for the Rift to 1.8.

Still very smooth, and still maintaining the 90 fps so no ASW still. Had a one on one dogfight and it was a blast.

Also nice job on implementing the zoom, works well!

Great job on VR devs!!

It´s not sarcasm. It´s a genuine wish, that the released build actually gets tested, as having  a couple of "bug reports minutes after patch release" is neither benifical for customers nor for the devs.

A++ on the sharpen filter!!! It had quite an impact on pretty much removing the "fuzzy" I was seeing. Thanks!

Also, not sure if server or game, but I can concur with laggy map scroll and airfield icons (all of them on an entire map) showing as "under attack".

I had no problems before the patch on nonVR hehe.

But I am using a Vive and currently getting stuck on initial loading.  Works fine when I disconnect my Vive USB.

I also changed the graphics preset and restarted the game, maybe that will help you as it will force a reset on some values.

I can launch the game fine after the patch if I don't power my Vive on. If I power up the Vive and launch the game I get stuck on the loading screen.

But you selected the VR option in Il-2? (as some ppl forgot that)

Have you tried using the Rift?  I am wondering if this is vive specific and I should go drag out the ol Oculus.

Thanks for patch, but what is with darkening? (IMHO it's not necessary at all).

BTW after finish flight, before i return on the map game cam moves to hanger, with post sharpen enable moving cursor on menus feels sluggish, and operating map - zoom, moving  even without sharpen olso is sluggish.

I have the VR option set in IL2 settings/graphics. Also tried with and without "full screen" selected
