Offline only flying with no internet

Hello,

My buddy is an avid (nutcase) flightsim flyer and does not have an internet connection. He has no interest in computers at all except to fly. He has IL2 BAT on his machine and gets all his game updates from me on a USB key. But once he sees this sim, he may want to bite.

If he buys the sim and loads everything up on his tower at my place, can he fly at home with no internet connection?

Thank you.

YES! but he won't be able to fly official campaign since it is generated through il2 servers.

However he can download scripted campaigns and PWCG (pat wilson campaign generator) which is even better than original campaign, also there are quick missions and regular missions so he'll enjoy it even without internet connection.

Good morning Croatia!

Thanks for that. I asked because even though I thought you could fly offline only, my game fails to load unless I am connected to the net, but then once connected and the play button appears on the initial loading screen, then I can disconnect and fly. I have to disconnect because I need the free USB input - I use a USB wifi stick - for my second flight control device.

My internet got temporarily knocked out by a lightning storm this week, so I fired up PWCG, which I've been enjoying immensely -- entirely offline.

PWCG and scripted campaigns create a completely viable offline experience, especially if your friend is a fan of the genre and uninterested in multiplayer. He could pick up the game during the current sale.

This. I see online-only as a weak link so PWCG saves the day for whenever my net or their servers go down.

Keep in mind there are pretty regular updates, so it might be a pain to get him updated. Nothing that you cant work out between the two of you though I am sure.

I think you need to launch the il2 exe directly, rather than the launcher that the shortcut points to.

Good evening Canada!

I think game will initialy try to establish online connection at first so it may take some time, but there is offline option (button) below in main screen (first screen when you start the game, dont start it through steam) where is big green ENTER button, so click offline and there you go!

Hello again.

My game stops at the initial loading screen, prior to the online/offline option, and says "Failed to update" and I can't go any farther. So I have to start online, get past that part so it says "play", then unplug my wife and plug in my second controller, then hit offline and I can fly.

I wasn't sure if it was something wrong on my part or just the way it is. Probably something on my part. But before I get my buddy to drop a few bucks on the sim, best to make sure he can actually use it.

Ahhh, and there it might be.

I was using the desktop icon. I'll try. Thank you. :salute:

I owe you a cup of coffee.

I'm glad you solved it!

Great community here! There is always someone that will help you, or try to help you like in my case, just ask!

Cheers!

You need to log into the game at least once with an internet connection so it can create your profile on your pc. After then it will work without internet connection.

And your wife is happy being plugged into your computer? Does this mean you can control her better with your joystick???

A world without typos is no world for me. :)

As for controlling my wife with my joystick... not so much anymore. Some hangar queens demand a bit of maintenance before a flight. Flowers at least.
