IL2 BOS I should of never waited!

WOW... Just wow... I've been playing since 1946 and still did until the recent sale. I kinda hate myself now for waiting this long. I got BOS and 190 A3 today. I would of bought them all but I like being married. haha

This is my very first flight in BOS. I use a homebuild track ir w/ Opentrack software and Saitek X45. I'm a budget build. I've got 3 kids and I'm married.

Hello there

I also am an old il2 flyer and although ive owned BoS for a while had only a few hours in.

It's really matured overtime (check out the tank missions!) and, for me, really does feel like a full sucessor.

As long as the VR performance holds up (and all indicators are that it will) i know my next purchace will be BoK premium.

Also, do try the PWCG tool as it really fleshes out the game.

I ran 1946 with SAS mods, Full Monty, CUP. Basically the look and everything else is 10 fold in BOS. I wish I hadn't waited. I got it today and have already 5 1/2 hours in.

VR is a dream of mine, a far distant dream... so far away..

What is PWCG Tool?

I have IL2-46 BAT and it really is great. It's about 75GB in size, has hundreds of planes, thousands of load outs, dozens and dozens of maps, and it just keeps getting bigger and better. New expansion packs are coming out all the time, and performance and stability are improving. As far as flightsims go, it's the grand super enchilada with all the extras. And it's pretty much free. What's not to love?

That said, I just bought BOM and a few collector planes  - and will be buying everything soon - and this really takes flightsims up a level. This is a great sim!

I too am new to BOS (picked up on latest sale) and spent last night in it.  Recently upgraded PC to current hardware specs including 1080ti and with three screens and max graphics it looks/runs great!  Only challenges now is getting my x52Pro properly set up for all the required keybinds.  If anyone has a recommended pre-confgured madcatz profile that fits the BOS default keyboard binds, please post!

One other thought, though I guess its simply how it is designed, no clickable cockpit.  CLOD has it, thus thought it was here too, but no worries.  As others noted, its more of a step up/modern version of 1946 with updated graphics/experience.  Though note, is the AI very good in BOS?  I flew first campaign mission (intercept) and simply followed flight.  AI seemed to find enemy ok, and I joined fight, but when ended, AI simply flew in rodeo circle over "action area" and we never zeroed in on primary target.  Is BOS more tailored for online play relative to smart/challenging AI?  That is one nice thing on latest/modded 1946, it has very good AI for offline play.

PWCG is awesome though a bit slow in use.

You can configure pretty much any parameter of mission generation, but you still have no idea exactly what you're getting, so it's always fresh.

What I will say is, that unless you tweak the parameters massively in your favor, the difficulty is draconian. At least you should limit the number of random flights that can spawn in your path or else you'll just get completely swamped before you even reach your target.

I think it's better you waited for now. It was a rocky start with a good foundation, but it's bedding in and becoming stronger.

Honestly that's is why I waited so long. I remember when it came out and going nooo because of all the issues I had seen people post about it.

Its an external Dynamic campaign generator. It breathes life into the campaign experience through stand alone missions linked in to virtual squadrons.

Its better than I make it sound, well worth a look.

Thank you for that. It looks very interesting. I'm a campaign/SP player mostly. I rarely get online. So this looks like it will benefit me greatly.

I did not know BAT finally came out. I heard rumors of it. I'm gonna have to go to SAS now and download that as well.

As of right now I have 16 hours in BOS and I only got it yesterday. I'm kinda hooked... only slightly haha

It's a big download, that's for sure. I did it from the torrent option and it went very well.

BAT is up to Expansion Pack 10. It's - I just checked - 69.7GB total after a clean re-install. It was a bit bigger before but I haven\t loaded up the skin packs, those are a few GB in size. Also, and this is nice, they released something called "Checkpoint" that you install after Expansion Pack 9 that gives you a clean recovery at that expansion pack point if you screw up any install after EP9. So you don't have to go back and do the whole frikin' thing over; you just switch a few folders, and you're back at the EP9 stage all nice and clean. Pretty sweet.

The latest expansion pack, #10, includes working radars for a few night fighters. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks cool.

BOM makes me want to fly IL2 BAT with it's incredible scope, and IL2 BAT makes me want to fly BOM with it's wonderful attention to detail. Good time to be flying! :drinks:

I don't know how people with kids find the time. Even without kids I don't seem to be able to allocate slots to Il2.

Good on you though. Glad you're having fun with it :)

HAHAHA If only the wife wouldn't mind.

I find the time very very carefully haha mostly at night or while they are at school. I'm a professional photographer so make my own hours for work which is also a major plus.

There are no used Grand canary vacation tickets for sale, same goes for hours in simulators. Once you had them they are worthless.  Flightsim are Carpe Diem, so the most important thing is you got it now

For me the hours are just funny, I never put so much time into a game in so little time like I have with BOS. I'm very pleased and extremely impressed with it. Mostly because I don't have the spare time. But I told the wife keep the kids busy because I'm gonna play this. Rare that a game can keep me on for more than 2 hours without wanting/needing to get off. So that was my point of the hours i've played so far ;)

I got that, and I see myself before like that. Now my kids are grown up and I can do what the f*** I want. And I find myself doing a lot of offline flying in Choppers in DCS.

But I understand your interest in this game, it is  some addictive aspects in it

I've got 10 more years of kids before that. I can't do DCS anymore. From the community to the game to the modules its a cluster of bad business practices and even worse community. I have the MiG-21, FC3, and F-5. I can't play the Mig-21 most of the time because bugs have broken it and they won't even address them or try to fix them. So I sold my account to some guy in the forums. Whats it like 2 1/2 years they've been saying the F-14 and F-18 are coming....
