Hey all

Just hopped online for first time tonight and got three kills! Sure it was luck but I will take it.

I just wondered what 109 you guys preferred and why? I am mostly flying the 190 but I thought I would ask which 109 I should learn in. I also like the better visibility of the 109 the 190s cockpit forward has massive blind spots. You get back in the 109 and are like I CAN SEE AGAIN!

I know the later models have more power but are they as maneuverable? I mean is the latest built one the best in the game or is there one thats better to start on and learn. Just would like to stick with one and learn its traits. Just dont wanna get stuck in worst one and then wonder why I am dying nonstop.

I do have to say the feeling of flight in this game is amazing! I am a RL pilot and its one of the best sims in that manner I have played. I am noticing that you really feel the planes while you fly them and theres great feed back from the airframe in sound and feel when you are on limit of AoA or past it etc.

Salutations,

You indicated mostly flying the 190... going to the 109 E-7 would be somewhat equitable. It is heavier than earlier 109s due to its added armor which lends itself to the Boom and Zoom tactics as in the 190. The earlier 109s, are not as durable and are not the best turning aircraft when compared with some of the enemy craft while on the other hand are equitable or better versus some of the early Russian craft. It is a choice that one needs to make through experience. Of course this is just my opinion.

Regardless, there are no super aircraft. All have their strengths and weaknesses. Learning those strengths and weaknesses and taking advantage of them is key. I think pilot skill can make up for flying a slightly lesser craft.

The older ones generally turn better, the newer ones are better at picking up speed in a dive and the pits generally get messier the newer they get as engineers tried to figure out where to put new stuff. Better guns, just different.

I find myself taking out the E7 or the G2. The Gs being newer will fit better to the play style of the fw 190 since you can't turn fight in that very well. The E7 requires manual radiator controls if you're playing on the harder difficulty. The F and G series do that stuff automatically like the fw 190. Just jump in and shoot.

Many G pilots will take a higher altitude, find a target, swoop down and do a shooting pass, power up into the sky and come back for another pass as some russian planes are not as good at climbing. You have a more powerful engine, but a heavier plane than an F series so because Russian planes generally turn better than 109s you'll want to avoid trying to catch up to most russian planes in a circle contest and they'll try and lure you into this move because they know you can't turn so good. They're better low down so most Russian pilot will drag you to the deck where the 109 is not quite as optimal.

109s had incremental improvements over their lifespan to cope with the ever changing demands of the war. I generally play on the Russian side though, but I always like to remember my enemy :)

The good thing about Il2 is that there is no rubbish plane really and no wanderwuffe. Some planes are harder than others and some fit better roles, but all have their uses. Once you get to know the game you'll find yourself picking a plane like you'd pick a certain weapon for a game. You don't take a knife to a gun fight.

Thanks for the info. Really liking the game so far its pretty deep learning all these planes and glad its not balanced like every other game now where everything has to be fair.

The Emil is probably the best pure dogfighter, but IIRC the F-4 is the fastest across the board.  It is overperforming by a little bit:  the G-2 should climb better but it does not.  If available, I take the F-4 every time as I think it is the best energy fighter.

Definitely F4 with head rest removed without additional guns. On half fuel You can even squeeze Yak in turns (but not recommended that).

E: weak engine. Manual radiators. Early version. Not desirable. High drag.

F2: stronger engine. Automatic radiators. Mediocre drag. Some people prefer this model because it had a more accurate 15mm cannon.

F4: The seminole model, bit stronger engine, automatic radiators with less drag.

G2: very strong engine. Increase weight=increase dive+lower maneuverability but more stable firing flatform. I personally prefer this model.

G4: even stronger engine. High drag. Lower maneuverability. Not a good model.
