I TURNED LABELS OFF

 

Today I turned labels off to show where planes are and I guess to most people this is nothing to shout about. I'd managed to get to the point where all the other aids like auto radiators and auto mixture and map gps were off in the last few weeks after returning to the game, but labels stayed. I've had this game since beta and always played with labels and auto everything. Everything that is turned off is off, the interface is set to 10% opacity with the H key used to remove any other traces when in the game. It feels so good to play without any extra aids and a load more rewarding and fun doing stuff. I had to fix my fps stutters and took two weeks getting the joystick to feel how I wanted.

 

Tracking air targets without the visual aids is a load more fun though. No more hunt the colored dot, but hunt the actual plane. Just make sure to shoot the correct side and night time ops looking for headlights and gun flashes from artillery.

 

Transformed the game.

well done. Seems such choices make IL2 more of an actual simulation to be experienced rather than just a game. What a concept.

Cheers. I dunno why I wrote this post. I was just so stoked that I finally turned them off because I'd always wanted to, but thought it would be too hard without a TIR system to keep track of targets. I did a bunch of button tweaks, etc for the setup to make it work and TIR would be nice I can track stuff OK.

Good for you! The first thing I do with a new game is crank it up to "Hard level" and play it like that. I have never used the icons or aim helper in BOS. One time testing a server flying IL2's hitting tanks the icons were on by the server so that's how I knew who I was flying with. Feels good to know you can track a target without icons, yeah?

 

The one and only time I flew with Icons and look who it is   We had a great flight though. Killed some tanks and went home.
