Will there be plans for 1944-45 add on at some stage?

They are as picky and loud as us Fw drivers (maybe more) about their favorite ride. They tend to be very loud about the Mustang being the best fighter as well, though, there is plenty of contemporary evidence against that claim. It rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

I'm sure this Dev team learned a lot from the Fw trials and tribulations here. They will get it right when the time comes.

It's a good thing the Internet wasn't around in 1944. I'm not sure all of those P-51 pilots would've been as confident in hopping in one and flying 7-8 hour missions far from home had they known.

Whether it won the war on its own is laughable and I doubt any serious historian would claim it so. That has been left for later day Internet "experts". But I've watched interviews and read any number of quotes where P-51 pilots expressed admiration for it in spades. Maybe even more telling are the quotes from Axis pilots expressing theirs. Those opinions carry far more weight in my eyes.

To me, the plane that actually won the war is the SBD Dauntless. Had it not almost single handedly stopped the Japanese at Midway, then the entire world war takes a different path. No lend-lease would've been likely. England then would've been forced out of the war for lack of food. Obviously there would be no build up in Europe in 1943-44 for the invasion. All of America's efforts would've been focused on stopping the Japanese after losing Midway. That leaves the Germans and the Soviet Union to duke it out for many more years, leaving many millions more dead than were in reality and Europe likely still in ruins to this day.*

Of course, it could be that the P-51 really did win the war. We all have our favorite plane after all. :)

For the record, I love the Mustang (as much as the 190A but not quite as much as the 190D).

Ah yes Stephen Spielberg. He would have us believe the Americans single handedly won the war. But I wouldn't be so petty as to hate Americans because of his unbalanced point of view.

the P-51 was a great aircraft and I can't wait for it in BoX. It's not my favorite aircraft but it is an iconic aircraft, just as the b17, the spitfire, the 109, 190 and the hurricane were.

Yeah you have to give the Mustang credit for what it was, it was the right aircraft at the right time for it's particular job - and beautiful to boot.

The Zeke is still at the top of my list for most beautiful aircraft of WWII - seeing them fly in person is something to behold.

Wow what a thought. I'm with you on this..SBD stops the Japanese. If they failed the war in the Pacific would have been much different. I think the lend-lease would have gone on. Roosevelt was helping the Brits in any way he could. But I think the Brits would have been worn down had the US concentrated on the Pacific. Not to say they couldn't hold out but I think sheer numbers would have done them in. In this new war scenario.

Hmm I wonder if 190 pilots often like the Mustang. My favourite birds of WWII were the 190 (A or D, both great in their own way), the P-51D and the P-47D. I guess they are all fast planes, that control well at high-speeds with good roll and dive abilities, and so are well adapted to BnZ tactics.

Nope, if the US lost Midway, all of continental Europe would be Soviet. Briatin would not have been starved out of the war, their food situation was never desperate during the war. Also, the Royal Navy and Coastal Command did most of the sub killing in the Atlantic. So no, we would have won without the US joining the war.

Why is it so hard to understand that Nazi Germany was defeated by an Allied effort. Your dreams of Britian Alone are as far fetched as America won the war.

I think we read some different history. If what you say is so, then I can't imagine why Churchill and Stalin were so eager for American goods and manpower to come into Europe.

You realise that such manpower and good only really came into play in 1943, in Tunisia. By then, the Germans had already lost Stalingrad, and they would also lose Kursk without any US help. And no, Hitler would never have been able to invade England, the Royal Navy was to strong for that and after the battle of Britain and the invasion of the Soviet Union, the luftwaffe was not strong enough to sink the royal navy. So actually, US intervention in Europe saved France, the low countries and half of Germany from becoming communist, but otherwise did not really cause the German defeat(because the Germans were losing anyway). It merely quickened it by 1-2 years by diverting resources away from the Eastern Front. Britain along would not have won, but would not have lost either, and it was the Soviets that really won(if the Normandy landing never happened, they would have kept going East, until they hit Spain, which they might have invaded.
