Hi. I'm new here and have a similar question to OP. I've been playing ED for a couple years and got into VR. I recently heard about VR coming to BoX, so I'm definitely looking for a change.

My question is whether BoS, BoM, and BoK are essentially the same game, but with different planes and maps? Or does BoM have big improvements over BoS, and will BoK have big improvements over BoM? I get the impression that updates see to apply to all versions, and if they are essentially the same, then I'll start with BoS and go from there.

Thanks.

Basically, no matter which title you buy, you're buying the same piece of software with different content unlocked. Battle of Stalingrad and Battle of Moscow are complete finished titles so if you buy either of those today you'll have the whole product. Battle of Kuban is a work in progress so if you buy that you'll get access to the "early access" content which is content that is finished.

Also, in multiplayer mode, the maps are available to all. So you can play online with everyone on Moscow, Stalingrad, etc. without owning the other product necessarily.

Thanks, Shamrock, good to know. So once you buy one, the others are basically add-on content. So I'll just start with BoS - cheaper.

Been reading the manual and going cross eyed. I thought ED was supposed to have a steep learning curve, but this looks ridiculous. This is going to take a long time figuring out keybindings, and setting up VA, but I think it will be well worth it once I get it figured out.

The manual makes things more intense than they really are. Depending on how you want to get started there's a lot of stuff you can do without a lot of extra key bindings and fiddling around.

Normal mode is a good place to start where some of the engine management stuff is simplified. Once you're good there then you can learn some of the other stuff and start branching out. The nice thing about WWII fighters is that there are no electronics to start, manage, etc. Its just engines, weapons and flight controls and much of that is the same across aircraft.

I'd suggest starting with the BF-109, it's easy to fly and won't require reading any manuals. :)

Thanks Dak!

Is it to late to get BoK early?

I think not! Go to the official il2 store.

We already have few planes from BoK, devs add it in current game while BoK developmemt is ongoing, next month we'll get spitfire and in july Kuban map while career mode is coming in october.

Also there is PWCG (pat wilson campaign generator) to download if you like campaigns.

I started with BoS and as frofesor said with Bf109 flying normal mode (plane is automated), when you get the basics and FM behaviour you can learn russian planes and engine managment and head to more realism with expert mode.

Also there are vids on youtube for learning tactics and such. Also finding someone to play with helps a lot.
