Glad VR patch didn't come out yet.

Easter holidays have started and I'm off to Edinburgh with the kids for four days holiday, I'm glad I won't have any distractions or excuses for being grumpy ( like a child whose sweats have been taken off him).

Highlight might be a trip to East Fortune Aviation museum, fortunately my wife likes it too so shouldn't be too difficult to convince her to go, for a third time.

I'm the other way around. Everyday I get close to my wife's belly and softly say "hey little baby, the IL2 VR patch isn't out yet, so could you please just hang in there for a little bit more, thanks!" - only 3 weeks left at most for me and then it's bye bye VR for a long time.

Have great holidays. I'd love to visit Scotland (shame on me for never taking the time when I lived in Europe) and that's a part of my wife's ancestry, but it's a long way from Australia. The aviation museum looks great, I'll keep that in mind if we ever head that way.

Good luck and, if I were to make a suggestion, stock up on as much sleep as possible now. It may be very much in short supply in the months ahead.

Yes, that's the one advice everyone has been giving me so I'm taking it seriously now. At first I made the big mistake of cramming all important work deadlines one month before the due date, but that means I came out of that period of time absolutely exhausted and having to recover. Now I was trying to entertain myself as much as possible, going sea kayaking for day and waking up at 5am to get ready and then being nackered for days afterwards, playing video games again etc, but that tends to mean that I'm going to bed later than I should, so now I'm forcing myself to prioritise sleep over everything else.

Still, if the IL2 VR patch comes out anytime soon I'll take a day off work to enjoy that while I can.

Next weeks update!

We had a "countdown to baby clock" in the office for you, so we hurried up to get it tested so you can fly it a bit before the sleep deprivation sets in!

And congratulations. :salute:

Definitely down to just days now.

Hmm let's see, I have golf on Monday, and then on Thursday and Friday. ( I am retired thankfully).

So Tuesday for me would be just ideal, Wed good also.

But I can live with Monday also. Or any day really.

Bring it on baby!

:)

That would be awesome ( even the Par 4) lol.

LOL, good luck out there..and you know I have no control of what comes out, when. Get the Par 4 anyways. S!

Alright. No baby yet, no VR patch yet. Let's see who comes out first. I'm ready for both (although I'll be happy with IL2 first really. Just saw baby during an ultra sound this morning and she's looking healthy in there if I could I'd recommend that she enjoys the womb a bit longer - the planned ~3weeks would do great).

Well, Murphy's law says the patch will come out tomorrow at 11AM and your daughter will at 10:45 AM. Hang the joystick up for about three months and enjoy the no sleep thing(been there done that!) We had a clock up! I swear..we were working super hard so you could fly it before Birthday or as we parents know it..the day I stopped sleeping, forever! Good luck.

Ah, the real expression of Murphy's law will probably be that: 11am, patch downloaded, time to set up for VR! 11:05AM, hell yeah, sitting in the VR room, IL2 booted up, in the menu, launching a mission! 11:06AM: distant voice from the other end of the house: my waters have broken!

Sounds about right! Tomorrow is the day for VR. Lets hope the water holds for a few hours!  :)

No sex. ( Some chance, he mutters to himself, "look what happened the last time I got all hot and bothered").

No spicy food

No hot baths

Otherwise, Bonne chance.

Well now I have printed out my Warthog Joystick and Throttle button diagrams, and have filled them in with my newly setup controller assignments to have as a reference. Of course can't really look at it whilst flying and wearing the HMD, but can use it as part of my pre-flight routine until all are properly memorized...

I seriously don't think there is anything else I can do to prepare for this VR release LOL, so guess I will go ahead and get the grass cut...

A good time to memorize your VAC or Voice Attack command list perhaps.

Forget the grass. Let your wife do it from now on.

Lol, not a bad idea but there is no way she would go close to a lawn mower!

May not be an issue for me anyway, I may be the only Rift user around here who this game will not run for them in VR. I was all excited and was going to write an in-depth description of my thoughts of BOS in VR, but denied lol.  From others reporting it sounds very nice.

I am probably missing something really simple, but have looked through all the Steam VR settings and nothing stands out.

The game just will not launch in VR for me. And yes I have VR checked in the GUI.

Maybe I will try re-running Steam VR set up again and see if that helps. It seemed to set up fine for me and it shows my sensor placement just fine with the arrow pointing forward as I am looking straight ahead.

This one has me puzzled.

Edit: Got it working - I had been starting Steam VR then launching the game, so I tried launching the game without SteamVR running first. The game started and Steam VR launched on it's own  and I found myself in the hangar in the Rift!

Finally!

Well guess what happened yesterday before the patch release: I get a text message from my wife telling me "I think I've just entered labour". Yep. But it turns out it's probably a false alarm and just Braxton-Hicks contractions. Although it's not sure, it might be the 1st step towards labour. Meanwhile my IL2 download has been really slow, and then I'm a Vive owner, so most likely I'll bump into the current bug which prevents IL2 from loading. So the race between IL2 in VR and baby continues!

Murphy's law I tell you! The Steam update sucks for us Vive users..way to go Valve! I'm sure they will have it fixed in a day or so.

Yep you are definitely a step closer, may be not too much longer now but hopefully you will get a little time in before.

My first one was 35 years ago, and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Btw, I suggest not trying to smoke a cigar with the VR headset on!

Well, IL2 won! I got to try it in VR a few hours ago and am just about to get back to it for a bit. Meanwhile on the baby side it's now clear that it was a false alarm - contractions have radically slowed down today. Our midwife said that it might stop entirely - she had the same happen to her 10 days before giving birth to her second one.

One suggestion, don't play Robo Recall or similar game. It might be embarrassing going to Maternaty suite with your wife sporting a black eye from trying to get your attention while you're distracted from the main event, as it were.

Oh, and the midwife is lying, don't believe her.

LOL ain't that the truth, I get a little wild and crazy myself when playing Robo Recall.

Fantastic game!

Ah yes - this could be an issue (in my case I wouldn't recommend getting close when I play Gorn for example) but my wife knows better than to approach someone playing VR - she's the one who dented the walls and ceiling while playing VR. Contractions have completely gone by the way. I was basically ready to go so now I'm finding that I have a hard time getting out of that feeling of being in "stanby" and about to drive to the hospital, even though in the end it might still be a 2 weeks wait or more. At least I've got IL2 in VR to pass time now.

Yeah well just wait till one day her water breaks, and she is yelling for you, but you can not hear her because you have your headset on in the heat of battle in BoS!

I am betting it won't be pretty...
