Hold-to-activate bindings

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi,

Would like to see hold-to-activate functionality for certain bindings to use with toggle switch input hardware. Don't know all bindings off the top of my head, but things like cockpit lights, ignition, canopy (?), landing gear. In Elite Dangerous they present this option next to each relevant binding where you can choose either "Toggle" or "Hold". A checkbox could work, too, for enabling hold to activate. I think there is a small control for inverting axis bindings or something? Could do something similar to that.

Would make a great addition for players using flight control panels, I think.

Edit: Or just separate on and off bindings in addition to the toggle bindings.

This would be really nice, and should indeed be simple enough to implement. Would also like to add a pretty super-important thing which is "Eject". Would suck to accidentally jump out of the plane.

Can't edit the title now, but I have decided to downgrade my suggestion to just having separate on and off bindings. Clearly hold bindings are difficult to implement, but I can't imagine adding on and off bindings in addition to the existing toggle bindings should be all that difficult. It's not ideal, but at least you won't risk getting stuck with "inverted" switches.

Planning to get the Virpil throttle when it's released, so this would be really handy!

I agree on the bail out, should have to hit the button three times to activate the function...............  not saying i have done it by mistake trying to hit speed brakes in a Ju-88 or anything........................

Target Software for Warthog lets you define pulse... instantaneous for open canopy, etc.... or Hold...... for fire guns....... flaps, radiators on some planes....

Cheers

Ok, now I realise what Inkoslav meant, and we're not talking about the same thing. He's talking about needing to press a button for a short moment before action is taken, but I'm talking about something activating when you press the button, and deactivating when you release it. Eg press to turn on cockpit lights, release to turn them off. This doesn't make sense for regular buttons, of course, but it does for flip switches.
