=FI=Macca Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I was wondering if somebody here has experience with using 40 inch 2560 x 1440 display for BOS? I'm thinking of building a new pc in the coming months and the aim is to run il2 and other sims on something big but not TV. Could you folks recommend some screen?
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 (edited) I run on the BENQ QHD CAD\CAM 32ich 2560x1440 works great! Edited March 30, 2017 by 71st_AH_Mastiff
Pajeka Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Hi I am currently using the 40" Philips BDM4065UC and really pleased with it. http://www.pcgamer.com/philips-bdm4065uc-monitor-review/
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Just keep in mind Pixel densities Effect on image quality..Ok for normal LCD displays native size for 1920x1080p is 24" (16x9)Native for 2560x1440P is 27" (16x9) and so on..So if you are running something around 40" try to run Nvidia DSR settings of 3.00x or higher 4.00 times (4K) should be greatOr im sure ATI have a similar way of Dynamic Sampled Resolution .
=FI=Macca Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 So 4K is the way to go it seems. Pajeka, how does the fps department look like in this case? 1080ti should do the job I suppose... Are you running other sims and games on it ?
Pajeka Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 =F1=Macca Hi, Firstly I need to apologise as I am not a technophobe so will possibly struggle if asked any detailed questions regarding video/graphics etc. I currently have a GTX980ti running the monitor at 4k on BoS/BoM/BoK and DCS with absolutely no problem. I have not looked at frame rates etc but can say (to date) it all appears to run perfectly smoothly with no issues. I believe the GTX980ti is now getting a 'bit long in the tooth' so your choice of the 1080ti to 'future proof' your system is a wise step. I have to say that the monitor screen size initially takes some getting used to but the 4K detail still takes my breathe away! Sorry I can't really give you any further 'in depth' technical information but having researched the purchase myself I know all the information you require is out there on the 'net'. One point worthy of note, is the product review on my earlier post is over 1 year old so I'm sure the current price will be lower than stated there. Hope this helps......
=FI=Macca Posted March 30, 2017 Author Posted March 30, 2017 Thank you for the information! I will get some info on this model on the net. Great to hear you can confirm BOS and DCS run well. I'm currently using 28 inch Dell and love it, but for a long time I've wanted to switch to something much bigger. It does not matter for me with other games, but for flight sims I think big screen, even bigger than 40 , is excellent.

They are cheaper and make great monitors. I use a 60 inch 4k for IL2 and it is great. I could not be any happier with the picture. I think you can get a 50 inch 4K at walmart now for about $400 or just under. Good luck.
1./KG4_OldJames Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 42" LG tv, nvidea 1050 works very nicely for me, but I have to "suffer" with a couple of inches of black border on the left and right sides of the screen to get the whole picture in. Also, bear in mind I am longsighted, and I don't wear my reading glasses as the screen is about 4 feet away from me. I don't see real life in hd anyway.
Gambit21 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 (edited) So 4K is the way to go it seems. Pajeka, how does the fps department look like in this case? 1080ti should do the job I suppose... Are you running other sims and games on it ? FYI I run BoX on a 27" 4K monitor with a 1080 - 60fps all day. The 1080ti is about the worst waste of money I can think of at the moment honestly...too much money for something that is still just now making it,sometimes barely, at 4K with certain games. Smart money is to hold off until the next round. Spend equal or likely less money for quite a bit more power. 1080 is the sweet spot IMHO until next release...the caveat for you being that I'm not sure if a larger monitor takes more resources even though it's still 4K? =TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 (edited) Gambit can you please do me a big favour.. Test one of the Terrain.cfg's i have available for terrain blurry fix. Sorry i don't know many people with 1080Ti to test it. I have 3 setups but can only test 2.3GB file for GTX760+ (uses about 2.6gb Vram TESTED)6GB file for GTX980Ti/GTX1060+ (uses about 5.5gb Vram TESTED)8GB File for GTX1080Ti+ (Uses about 7.5GB Vram UNTESTED) Incase you not aware.!!RENAME FILE to Terrain.cfg!! (some reason forum will not let me attach .cfg files) File goes in IL2 Sturmovik\Data\Graphics\ Ingame Select Distant Terrain X 4 Start a test flight Around 3km Autumn map and test FPS and how nice terrain looks off in distance. Anyone else welcome to test it also Thanks (sorry for posting it here but i could not attach files to a pm) Edited August 17, 2019 by =TBAS=Sschatten14
Gambit21 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Sorry, I can't be futzing with my .config files. Also my 1080 is currently bottle-necked by my 2500k just a tad (still holds 60fps most of the time at 4K) and I have the 1080, not the ti version.
Elem Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 (edited) I'm running the IIyama 4K 40" at 3840 x 2160 no problem, even with my old PC with the HD 7850 OC. The new RX480 is giving me up to 75 FPS with all graphics option on and maxed out. I got it about a year ago well under £500 but even now it's not a bad price given the area of screen and resolution. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Iiyama-X4071UHSU-B1-40-Inch-LCD-Monitor/dp/B016UPDKIW Edited April 25, 2017 by Elem
Jaws2002 Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Just make sure you get something with decent refresh rate. There are plenty good screens this days with 120-144 Hz refresh rate.
=FI=Macca Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 Thank you for the advice. How is the reaction time on the iiyama? Looks really nice.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 If you have the GPU power..Nvidia DSR X4.00 will work great on that 40" screen @ 5120 X 2880 Resolution (much better than 4K)
Elem Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Thank you for the advice. How is the reaction time on the iiyama? Looks really nice. Ok so it's only 60Hz but read the review..... I love it http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/monitors/90008-iiyama-prolite-x4071uhsu-b1/

There are plenty good screens this days with 120-144 Hz refresh rate. 60hz is plenty for this sim...this isnt' F'ing first person, "I got you LOL!!!" online twitch land. Plus you're not going to be pushing 4K at those refresh rates anyway. I'm happy with my 60hz 4K IPS monitor...wouldn't trade it for a 144hz 1440p TN for what I do. Content creation (3D modeling, rendering, photoshop etc) this sim and the occasional Batman game.
=FI=Macca Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 What is the benefit of using DSR on such a display with that resolution?
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 (edited) 34 inch IPS at 3440x1440 run at 100hz , in game fps on ultra 80-140 Edited April 26, 2017 by 307_Tomcat
=WH=PangolinWranglin Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 (edited) I play on a 60 inch TV screen. It's pretty good but I'll be downgrading a bit to a 32 - 40 inch when I move locations of my set up. Edited April 27, 2017 by =DF=PangolinWranglin

I have it overclocked to 73Hz for about three years and it's a very noticeable difference. Back then, there were not many IPS screens with decent refresh rate. Today it's different. I wouldn't get anything with less than 100Hz refresh rate this days.
Gambit21 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Odd - I have zero issues at 60hz. I wouldn't go lower res than 4K now - so this is my happy place for 5 years or so. Then I'll look for a 4K monitor with a bit more refresh, but even then 85-100 will be fine. I don't need simulated super vision
Jaws2002 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Maybe your monitor has better response time than mine, I have this Dell Ultra Sharp U2713H wide gamut screen, with 6ms response time and when i moved my head fast in cockpit, with the track ir, I noticed it's not that smooth. I also notice it when watching action movies. Overclocking it to 73Hz made a big difference. Everything looks more fluid and I feel less strain on my eyes. Most likely 80-100Hz is enough, but when I'll upgrade this one, I'll go over 100Hz.
Gambit21 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 I'll have to see what's out there/affordable when it's finally time to shop for one again. This one will hopefully last a good long time.
