=KG76=flyus747 Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 (edited) Hi everyone, Premise: So I recently hooked my laptop to my TV via HDMI cable for a better gameplay experience (spotting dots and stuff) and thus far everything has been performing swimmingly, that is except IL2 BOS. Problem: When I startup IL2 BOS, the audio (for the game) for some reason remains on my laptop despite the laptop being plugged into my TV screen via HDMI cable. FYI, the TV monitor does come with speakers. The audio for any of my other program like Spotify, YouTube or other games work completely fine, without any need for worry, but then here comes IL2 with its nerve wracking technical difficulties that I just can't seem to figure out. I played Spotify and also opened up IL2 and then the audio gets split. The TV plays the music from Spotify and the laptop plays the IL2 audio. Since the TV is simply an external monitor, I still perform my actions through the laptop controls and when I mute the laptop, the Spotify audio obeys the command and mutes whereas the IL2 audio continues. It is as if the IL2 program has gone rogue. Anyone been in the same boat before? Experiments and Results: I have messed with the sound options on the laptop such as "playback device" and "troubleshoot sound problems" and I didn't really document the methods I used so sorry I can't be of much help there, but in the past few days, I have been able to get it to work once I restart the computer and/or disable the TV playback speakers, but the results have been inconsistent. Updates: 29 Mar 17 1710 PST:When the Fullscreen option is ticked, audio will not play on the TV, when it is not ticked, audio will remain on TV as it should. Still do not understand the correlation these two share, but this is what I am seeing. 31 Mar 17 2109 PST:Using the method stated on 29 Mar 17, I have been having a great time enjoying the game like everyone else, the audio is on the TV, as intended. If you wish to change resolution for purpose of increasing frames, make sure you also change the desktop resolution to MATCH game resolution. The purpose of this is to avoid checking the fullscreen option. Basically, avoid checking that fullscreen option at all costs if you wish to game on an external monitor such as a TV or larger screen. Any help is really appreciated. By the way, this marks my first appearance in these forums, but my 10 millionth visit. I have seen many users posting their issues/problems and get it solved so I came in feeling quite safe feeling that a sense of resolution would come, otherwise I would not have decided to post. Thank you very much, flyus747 Edited April 1, 2017 by flyus747
FTC_Riksen Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Have you tried setting your tv as the default sound device in sound properties?
=KG76=flyus747 Posted March 29, 2017 Author Posted March 29, 2017 Yes that was one of the methods I experimented with and it sometime worked and sometimes didn't. Do you happen to know the step by step procedure because I think I must have missed something out.
Guest deleted@30725 Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 (edited) Have you tried setting your tv as the default sound device in sound properties? This should work as Ricksen says/ Although in windows 10 on the sound icon in the right hand side of the bottom bar you can select between the two different audio devices which will switch between tv and laptop. If you then right click on it you can get to playback devices and then see which device is the default. (the one with the green tick on it) Edited March 29, 2017 by deleted@30725
=KG76=flyus747 Posted March 29, 2017 Author Posted March 29, 2017 Appreciate the replies folks, but I have, in the past, ensured that the audio is set to the TV settings as you guys suggested but it was to no avail. Anyways, good news, it works now!w This is what I did: 1) Backup and delete the startup.cfg in the IL2 data folder 2) Restart PC (just to be safe) 3) Start the game *Once startup.cfg is deleted, you might need to reconfigure your CAMERA settings so make sure you note your personal setttings, but as far as KEY MAPPING is concerned, that will remain intact. It is working thus far, but we'll see how long it stands in the long run. The case continues!
Guest deleted@30725 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 (edited) That's really weird. Did you compare the two files to see which setting had changed since there is not a lot in the file anyway? I was just looking at the startup.cfg file now. Don't upload your file though in full as it contains your login and password in plain text. I guess it's this bit: [KEY = sound] count = 32 debug_radio = 0 interface = 0 interface_music = 0 quality = 2 speedenable = true volume = 0.68000 Edited March 30, 2017 by deleted@30725
=KG76=flyus747 Posted April 1, 2017 Author Posted April 1, 2017 A That's really weird. Did you compare the two files to see which setting had changed since there is not a lot in the file anyway? I was just looking at the startup.cfg file now. Don't upload your file though in full as it contains your login and password in plain text. I guess it's this bit: [KEY = sound] count = 32 debug_radio = 0 interface = 0 interface_music = 0 quality = 2 speedenable = true volume = 0.68000 Findings: Alright so for some reason, the fullscreen option is definitely connected to this audio bug somehow. I lowered the resolution to try to gain some more fps and I did get more fps...at the expense of the audio returning to the laptop. Mind you this is with the Fullscreen option checked. However, once I UNCHECKED it, the game ran in a small window with the audio on the TV. In order to fix this, I lowered my screen resolution on the desktop to 1360x768 and ran the game at same resolution NOT FULLSCREEN and it worked. Audio was on TV and gameplay was fullscreen. Temporary Conclusion: So at the moment, this seems to be the best fix. That is, to not check the fullscreen option. If you wish to lower the resolution for purposes of increasing performance in game, keep the game resolution and the desktop resolution THE SAME so that you never need to check that fullscreen option. This seems to be the only solution I know right now. The only drawback to this is the hassle. Changing desktop resolution to play your game and then switching it back when finished is a bit inconvenient and it would be nice to have a gaming experience free from these technical troubleshootings. P.S. I tried messing with the startup.cfg line you provided and as far as I could tell, the line had no impact, and the problem persisted. I changed the value from 1 to 0 and started the game and the source of the audio still lied on whether that fullscreen option was checked or not. I am of the belief that this line is independent of the current problem. Thanks for the help folks.
