Wanganui_Wildcat Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 (edited) A very challenging plane to fly but a lot of fun and extremely so when you manage to shoot something! Final telly I think was three bf-110's, two bf-109's, two ju87's, two he-111's, two fw-190's and one ju88. The alternate version for people from the US. I have, however, added a couple of extra's at the end. Edited March 28, 2017 by =WFPK=Wanganui_Wildcat 3
Wanganui_Wildcat Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 (edited) So according to youtube this video can't be viewed in the US due to copyright infringement. So for people there wanting to view it I will re cut this later to a different song and hopefully have better luck. Edited March 27, 2017 by =WFPK=Wanganui_Wildcat
19//Moach Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 (edited) the P40, wrong as it may be until the new FM changes make it into an update, has grown into one of my favourite planes to fly in the sim not because it's easy -- but because it's so ****ing hard, it's addictive once you start to learn it the "Shittyhawk" is the Unicycle of BoX - it's not really the best way of doing anything - but it's the hardest... and due to having a screw loose or two (or all of them), we feel compelled to fly it, rather than making the sensible decision (boring) to fly something easier and more effective instead and whenever you achieve anything better than death by pilot error in THAT thing - you have a victory, and this is a victory that rings louder and higher than any other also, some maps in WoL let you take a 250kg bomb on it too - and that actually makes it kinda useful[citation needed], in the hands of a pilot brave and skilled (and/or foolish and lucky) enough to go and master it not spin and die every time lots of fun with the Shittyhawk - the Bizarro World version of the Kittyhawk, that looks exactly the same, but handles in a way that it's not completely unlike my ex-wife... ...what's wrong with us? anyways - no problem viewing from Canada! - with that soundtrack, now all we need is Christopher Walken in the cockpit Edited March 27, 2017 by 19//Moach
Wanganui_Wildcat Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 Yeah it definitely is a challenging plane to fly, but if you manage to get a shot off, those 6 .50 Cal guns certainly pack a punch!!
Thad Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Salutations, Please, excuse my ignorance but was the P-40 known to easily go into spins historically? Was it known to be so hard to fly and ineffective as a fighter?
19//Moach Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 (edited) Salutations, Please, excuse my ignorance but was the P-40 known to easily go into spins historically? Was it known to be so hard to fly and ineffective as a fighter? no - it was claimed to be a lot better than this the manuals say that intentional spins are prohibited, and they are indeed rather violent once you get into them - but I have never read or heard any account in document or anecdote about it having this habit of going into an uncontrolled slip-away and subsequent spin all but spontaneously - this is simply bizarre behavior in the sim hopefully it's fixed by the long awaited rudder upgrades, which I truly hope are soon to come... for now - if you ever when you start feeling the nose "slide out" (mind that it does this without necessarily stalling, enough sideslip will do it) - the one thing I discovered has enough effect to stop the turning is to use full elevator so that the aberrantly large gyro forces from the propeller will precess you back into control this has to be practiced, until it becomes instinct - pull up to stop a counter-clockwise spin, push down for clockwise and always correct elevator inputs with rudder, left foot going up, right foot going down believe it or not -- this works -- and that alone should tell you plenty about just how anomalously this plane handles in the sim there is no recorded evidence to suggest (let alone prove) this was experienced in the real plane - on the contrary, all seems to point out it was relatively easy to fly (for a warbird) Edited March 27, 2017 by 19//Moach
Lusekofte Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Salutations, Please, excuse my ignorance but was the P-40 known to easily go into spins historically? Was it known to be so hard to fly and ineffective as a fighter? I read it got a nasty flat spin, but was among the most manouvereable US produced planes
Wanganui_Wildcat Posted March 28, 2017 Author Posted March 28, 2017 Added the alternate version to the original post. Put in a couple of extra's at the end, one of which shows the the beginnings of the spin we all know and love/ hate. It doesn't have a lot of time to develop in this clip though. Enjoy!
