Any idea why some players have no icons in replay?

Title kind of says it all.  Sometimes players don't have icons in replay and you also can't switch to a third person view on them.

I was wondering about that as well.  I have one track labeled "unidentified 109".  While on the tail of another bird and watching from externals, I could see other aircraft icons\names and then another 109 is on my tail.  Now not lagging behind, it was within 50 meters at some points, but no icon or name..

Was very suspicious but what can be done?

Seems to be a random but. It also prevents padlocking them. I'm not aware of any known cause, seems to happen randomly but fortunately rarely.

From what I understand you should get icons on every planes less than around 8k from you.  The issue I am talking about is in some replays players have no icons at all and you can change view to them.

heavy latency ping more than likely to the server and it's not identifying them, or could be a big black hole as swallowed them up.

That seems strange.  I have been shot down by these individuals and the server still showed me their name when they did it.

 

In addition, in the last replay I have this affected both the guy that shot me down and his wingman.  The other Russian players had icons as normal.

I've had that too -- kinda better knowing I'm not hallucinating that this happens....

I've experienced this as well.  I think it's just a bug.  You'll notice if you record a really short track that the icons don't show on any of the aircraft for the first few frames.

I heard all the conspiracy theories about this. I think its just a game recording limitation. I doubt people are cheating in this case.
