All, I had a couple of questions about view controls. For your reference, I use TrackIR 5.

In Cliffs of Dover, players have the ability to "lean to gunsight." Many of you already may know this, but it is a command that is bindable to a key. It basically moves your pilot's head to the gunsight and semi-fixes it there (you can still move the pilot's head but it's confined to the gunsight area). This is mostly useful for some German aircraft that have gunsights offset to the right.

I didn't see anything similar in BoS so the workaround I am trying out is using a custom snap view in the pilot head controls settings. So far, I was successful in mapping a custom snap view to the position of leaning to the gunsight. However, the game requires that I hold the key bound to the custom snap view to maintain the view there, unless I change the pilot head control method (in Settings > Key Mapping > Pilot Head Control) to "fixed snap" using another bound key. Being in "fixed snap" mode allows me to press a key bound to the custom snap view once and the view will stay there until I press the same key again. This is very helpful since I don't want to have to hold down a key while aiming. So far so good!

Unfortunately, it seems like I am unable to change the pilot head control method when TIR is activated. It stays at "centered snap." Only when I disable TIR am I able to switch the pilot head control method. This is not ideal since in combat situations I need to be able to quickly lean in and out of the gunsight at the press of a button (usually one of the thumb bottons on my joystick; and I wouldn't want to use my non-joystick hand to press and hold another key either, since I usually like to control throttle / prop pitch / etc. on the fly as well).

Is there any way to allow changes to the pilot head control method while TIR is enabled? It seems like such a simple thing but I am having trouble with it. If there is no solution, I would ask the Devs to give us the option to press a key to go to the snap view and pressing it again to release the view, in addition to the current method (pressing and holding the key). However, this will likely be at the bottom of their priority list...

A second question that may be easier to answer is if there is a way to allow view controls using TIR while typing a chat message. For some reason, when I hit Enter to type in a message, the view is fixed and I cannot control my view until after I send my message.

No "Lean to Gunsight" in BoS because pilot view of Bf 109 is always centered like in other planes (this "lean to gunsight"/"loose shoulder straps" was hated by many IL-2:46/CLoD players, so their preference prevail).

But there a shortcut for momentary view of gunsight in zoom, is Del+NP8 (I think) - require press and hold, and for some reason this command can't be re-assigned for other key - is not listed in controls.

You can use a 3rd party keymapper (Joy2key, Xpadder, joy software...) for bind this view in joystick/throttle button, or MacroGamer that allow bind a key to send keys combo.

Don't know if work with TrackIR (I am "allergic" to headtrack).

Thank you Sokol1. I tried looking at MacroGamer which you suggested to me in another thread. Still trying to figure out if there is a way to use it to achieve my goal. Do you know if any of Joy2key, Xpadder, joy software, etc. have options to map a key press to a key hold? For example, if I want to tap a keyboard key or joystick button once to emulate another key being pressed and held, which software should I use? MacroGamer at first seems to have this ability but it doesn't work as I intended.

Joy2Key, Xpadder is joystick key mapper = joystick buttons to key/combo press, they allow press a button to hold (ON) a function and press again to release (OFF).

MacroGamer is keypad keymapper = keyboard key to key/combo press - maybe allow only momentary press. I don't test too much.

Autohotkey allow map both joystick and keyboard and maybe achieve what you need.

Perfect! Joy2Key and Xpadder sounds like it might do the job based on what you said. I will try it out and report back. Thanks again Sokol1 - you're very knowledgeable.

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to set a lean to gunsight view and I found this. I downloaded xpadder but I'm not getting any input values, despite the stick being detected. Any tip?

If the joystick button that you set in XPadder don't send* key press for the game, try running the XPadder.exe "As administrator".

* First test in Notepad, if  pressing the button the respective key is write.

I meant that the software doens't detect any joystick input, it doesn't react when i press any button or move around.
