How do you disable the radio voice overs in the game - Really annoying.

Hi Folks.

I'm not racist, but I can't understand the voice overs in the game and find them super annoying as they don't really add anything to the immersion, I mean - I'm not linking up with big squadrons or communicating with several flights of AI.

I couldn't find an option to turn them off and not sure where the files would be located to delete them. They also put big text blocks on the screen that you can't seem to stop either.

A mod would do it, but I don't think such a thing exists?

I don't know if this will help go to "C:\wherever you have the game\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Audio" find the radio folder and rename it -radio it will stop them from talking but you will still see the text and hear static. Remember to name it back to radio before an update or the game will add a new radio folder during the update.

Thanks Blackwolf, that's good enough for me!

Along these same lines - is there any way to keep the sounds but eliminate the text?  In most cases I'd much rather listen to the chatter but not have the immersion broken by having text crawling on my screen.

You can push H to hide the HUD completely.

An option to turn off all the AI chatter and text would be better. I know, not a big deal, but why in MP server am I seeing and hearing it? Some may like to have the Hud on in SP or MP but not hear or see the text of the AI.

If there is I'd like to know too.

The AI voice text needs a lot of work. Apart from the truly gigantic size, the translations of what is being said really needs some flavour to make it seem more human and less like a sort of digital-Borat that is speaking.

In the old IL2, there was a "Hollywood" voice over pack. I'm sure the purists wouldn't like it but i did for its simplicity in understanding what was happening. Ive no time or desire trying to learn several languages or memorize phrases. I think accented English is a good compromise.

I wonder if I can make my own or if the game would reject them because Blackwolfs suggestion is good, but the static from the radio is a bit odd and I check the options for radio on / off - nope.

I read sometime on the forums that more options are coming with the release of bok, whether that will include a tick box - on or off / slider for this thing who knows. Whether that statement is even true I have no idea.

At least if you happen to play a music track the static is harder to hear than the voice over.

Yeah that's why I said I didn't know if it would help. The static gets to me after a while and I just turn the speech back on.

I wonder if you can make your own? Its an .ogg file I think. But a AI sound On/Off button would be better.

Is there a way to make the voice overs a lower volume? A slider? Right now they are cranked just as much as the engine and guns and hurts my ears.

Radio voice/sounds/labels options was impaired by that EA "less keys is better" rule, so unless some GUI revision is planned is need live with this as is.

None that I can find.... on TS we all just pause as they speak, then go back to the dirty joke we were telling.

Well that isn't good news. But thanks Sokol1 for the info.

The static samples are hard coded into the game audio pack titled Main.fsb

The samples play simultaneously with the voices and the only reliable way to alter it for everybody would be for the devs to move all 17 "Radio_Noise_" samples out of the FSB and into the Data/Audio/Radio folder so that they could be altered to taste without need for a dedicated Mods-on mode.

Personally I believe that a truly excellent system of AI speech is the single greatest addition to the game that an SP experience can have.  However I find that the one we have at the moment is probably my least favourite and the most inflexible system that I have used in the last 15 years.

Nothing racist about that, m8.

For lower volume you can re-record all speech files with audacity ( it's free http://www.audacityteam.org ) to fit your needs. I made a translation to them for my guys and it works fine, so changing just the volume with audacitys bulk file process should not take you too much time. Just keep a copy of the ones you make in case some patch erases them.

Thank you! I was able to disable the radio announcer and at the start of the mission I only hear the sound of the engine but when the writing appears (and no longer the voice of it) the sound of the radio stays on all the time and does not go out anymore.
