VEAO has shown pictures of their Spitfie XIV cockpit:

Yeah but they need to finish the products that have been paid for before they can get a contract to sell it. Until then it's just a pretty 3d model that no one will get their hands on. For them to post pictures of their spitfire while customers wait and wait and wait etc. for the products they've paid for is pouring salt in the open wound of broken promises.

They made the obstructive bar smaller!   To account for the lack of refraction through armoured glass I assume! This is great news     Leading your shots in a turn will be a bit easier  :)  Thanks devs!!!!  :salute:

That looks to me like a different angle (lower).

Look at where the screenshot ends on the lower sides, you see more plane.

Posted (edited)

It is the same height, only a different angle, look at where the wings align with the canopy, its the same on each photo.

And they did mention "finished cockpit"

Edit: So they must be referring to that bar!

Edit 2: Also, look at where the bar is in relation to the rivets.

No if it was lower the reticle in the gunsight wouldn't be centered its the same head "height" the head is just further back towards his seat a bit   :salute:  :)

At first I thought it was different head position, but compare the bar at the top of the armored glass to the bar at the bottom. I hate bar discussions, and will not complain either way, but I think they may have made an adjustment.

That cockpit looks so yummy :) I never was that into the Spit's external looks (I recognize its beauty, it's just not for me) but it always had one of the most destictive and attractive cockpits.

out of interest, does anyone know what the typical delay is from a new AC being released and then that same AC being available on multiplayer servers ?

First thing I will do when I get home from work tomorrow hopefully is to grab a sarnie, don the rift, and take my shiny new spit for a spin in VR.

Guessing I'll be restricted to single player missions though ?

I think it's pretty much instantly available.

it's going to be released after the sale ends on the 6th... they didn't give a date AFAIK

It depends entirely on the server admins. When the mirrors came out it took some servers a little while to switch them on. WOL, for example still hasn't implemented the IL 2 1943 model yet.

iirc they said July 6th or the day after.

iirc they said July 6th or the day after.

They don't like doing updates on Fridays for obvious reasons.

If not tomorrow I'm gonna guess early next week.

Correct. The alignment is the same, and the gunsight is proof positive. If the bar looks lower in relation to the rest of the windshield, it means there was a change.

They have delayed it till October, .. several problems with the beer bombs ... they never arrive fully loaded at the HQ ...

If the Spit got delayed any further, I know a few ppl who'd be dropping a lot of F-bombs on this forum.

I'm torn . . . on the one hand I'm going to get to take a ride in a spitfire when I get home tonight . . . In VR no less :D

on the other hand my favorite thread loses it's reason to exist. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about anything.

Fear not, I am sure there will be other Spitfire threads to enjoy. For instance:

The "Spitfire over-rated compared to anything German ever build" thread.

The "If the Spifire FM is so good how come the P-40 FM is still porked" thread.

The "Why are all the MP maps now exclusively full of Spitfires on the VVS side?" thread...

and so on.  ;)

It is absolutely gorgeous in VR!

Gave it a couple of tries and here's my initial verdict:

- It's very unique in feel and overall behavior, quite unlike any other fighter in the sim.

- It's sloooooooooooooooow, speed figures I was able to achieve on WEP were somewhere in the vicinity of the LaGG-3. Maybe it was just my sloppy flying. Initial acceleration is pretty good though.

- Its elevator is absolutely insanely effective, it can pull Gs like no other plane, initial corner speed is very, very good.

- Rudder and ailerons are moderately effective, it rolls very slowly (slower than the 109s) at low speeds but the roll rate kinda picks up a bit at higher speeds.

- The aircraft remains under control at very low speeds and during stall, it never feels unresponsive.

- The accelerated stall is peculiar, there is a pronounced pitch-down movement preceding the stall. Even with its super-elevator it is hard to thrown into a proper spin. Recovery from a spin is straightforward, feels similar to the Fw 190 but faster. Recovery from accelerated stall is normally automatic.

- Climb rate is okay-ish, somewhere around what the I-16 does. However, due to its effective elevator it loops very well.

- The HS cannons are super-deadly, but you've only got like 5-6 seconds of fire, the Brownings spread out on the outer wings like that do absolutely nothing.

- Engine management is straightforward with automatic mixture control (just leave it at 100%) and only water radiator with 5 positions. Remember to release the throttle with the "boost" button to achieve +12 boost on WEP, else you're just wasting engine limits.

- Cockpit view is great, possibly the best forward of any fighter, view behind as fine, wings block LOS a lot downwards.

- Ground handling is not too bad, though it is obviously easy to throw off balance. Torque is very pronounced during take off.

In short: If you try to turn-fight this bad boy, you're gonna lose. Run and climb and leave it behind in the dust, then pounce.

Most of this is as I would expect. I was a bit surprised at just how effective the elevator is and how many Gs it can pull at almost any speed. The stall behavior also feels a bit weird (I'm not saying it's wrong, just different)

I'm gonna have some fun with this, I think, though in MP it's probably going to be frustrating to constantly chase after planes that are so much faster than you.

Aslo: While the new algorithms for rudder modeling might not have been implemented, the Spit definitely has the more detailed airflow model built into her FM. Using rudder there is hardly any induced roll.

Pretty much my feelings too. elevator effectiveness is dead right, pilot accounts say how sneezing can black you out....

In one of the videos I recall someone describing the early Spitfires as "armed sports planes" and I can see why. It does feel like driving an MG. :)

Good review Fink,

n thanks for pointer on Spitfire rad control.

In 1v1 it will win vs lagg3, yak1 69 and mig 3 9 out of 10 times even with 46 engine. Bretty good plane.

But ofc f4 will easily win.

Spit has a tricky unstable elevator though which makes fast aiming difficult.

So did anyone confirm the Spit has the new FM? I really can't be bothered to read all of the threads where it says no new FMs until 2.012.

Nothing confirmed, but take 5 mins in the Spit and it is obvious, that it doesn't have the rudder induced roll, that the other planes have.

Unfortunately I can't :(

I am away from computer until the end of the month so until then I must experience it through the forum users:(
