JG27*Kornezov Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 (edited) The new FM of la5 made this plane a beast. I never had such opposition from an la 5 until now. Bad surprise at low altitude. Many people would not understand the tactical scenario so I add detailed description what is going on. Online multiplayer dogfight on the Berloga server. I think the new la 5 f is a formidable opponent especially in expert hands. The dogfight was quite complex with different transitions, tactical moves and counter moves. I am not even sure if some people would understand the tactical themes evolving during the fight. This fight combines, defensive maneuvering, tactical extension with climb, rope a dope, energy fight, defensive spiral, merges, rolling scissors, loops, turn fight, last ditch defenses and overshoots and last but not least low speed handling at extreme angles of attack. The la 5 pilot demonstrated excellent deployment of flaps with lead turns with mindful deceleration. 0:10 The bandit comes with speed advantage towards me. The defense is vertical rolling scissors. I just manage to make overshoot and make a neutral position. The other possibility was to press the attack. 0:49 Defensive jink at head on merge and extension into rope a dope 1:31 After realizing energy advantage I position for attack. Nevertheless the bandit kept enough speed and by turning into me denies my shot. This is a textbook example against rope a dope. I do not give up and I make several repositions in the vertical, the speed is low and I am driving the very limit. Success. And bad shooting. 2:42 The la 5f realizes the situation and immediately transitions into defensive spiral. I need to power down and deploy flaps to counter it so after a few rolls I choose to flatten out and re-position. 3:10 the la 5f decides to turn 180 degrees and meet me head on. Just see the la 5 made 3 180 degrees turns and still had a lot of energy. 3:31 I decide to merge but to make a lead turn in the vertical considering the la5 should be in lower energy status considering the energy excursions. 4:00 It pays off I get an offensive position behind the la 5f 3-9 line and I maintain it slowly crawling at his 6. If that was an yak1 I could not have this opportunity. 4:28 After realizing the desperate situation the la 5 deploys flaps and changes the roll direction. I miss the shot, he should be dead by now. Then I realize that he has slowed down and manages to make me overshoot. The counter is in the vertical. Nevertheless there is another bandit shooting at me and I just cannot go pure vertical and hang in the air. So the move was to transition into a loop gaining some separation and blocking an imminent shot. If the second bandit was a good shot I would be dead by now. 5:00 The la 5 f thanks to its friendly managed to make neutral fight. And we continue with the rolling scissors, i manage to gain offensive position meanwhile he is out of fuel. Edited June 2, 2023 by JG27*Kornezov 2
JG13_opcode Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) Nice flying, both you and the La-5 Edited March 16, 2017 by JG13_opcode
JG27*Kornezov Posted March 16, 2017 Author Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) Indeed even with the massive turn rate advantage i was not able to gain advantage as fast as I used to do against the la5. The new FM first gives a lot of power, second the handling is amazing. The la 5 has a massive roll rate advantage and it is normal that this is the preferred type of fight. I chose this track because it shows transitions, from a defensive into neutral, then climbing extension, then rope a dope, the defense against rope a dope, then the la 5 defensive spiral etc. I mean it is almost like a textbook. There was not a mistake in the flying, I had to use some not too obvious opportunites, waiting for him to maneuver a little bit more aggressive to counter it in the vertical. Nevertheless the other red complicated things so I was not able to go pure vertical. My second fight was even more interesting but unfortunately I have not a track . If this guy was flying a yak 1 I would not fight like that at all, I would be far more conservative. The guy ran out of fuel. I even should not have shot at him, but I saw it too late and I was really eager on the trigger frustrated with the missed shots. Edited March 16, 2017 by JG27_Kornezov
JG7_RudeRaptor Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Korny !! Hello m8! What time do you fly online? Is Papa flying BOS these days??
=/WoVi/=kirumovka Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 I haven't touched IL2 in a while. All I remmeber is that they can now use emergancy mode forever with an upgrade (by which I pretty much did that anyway because the sorties aren't usually long enough to run out)
JG27*Kornezov Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 (edited) Hi Raptor. Happy to see you. Yes we still fly online, actually we did not stop. We fly on the old il2 1946 every Monday and Tuesday on the Orel server. As there is not much people it is quite relaxed flying with a lot of ground work. We fly the Allied planes, we decided to fly those before switching to another game. Our preferred server was vinipuh server but it is down. So we learn tricks of Laggs and Migs and Yaks, P51, Cobras, p38 etc. The team fusion did a very very good job on il2 1946 and the FM are excellent. Nevertheless the il2 BOS is in entirely another league. Papafly has a very strict work schedule. So we fly every Monday and Tuesday from 6 CET to 9 CET. We use the JG27 Teamspeak server. : jg27.typefrag.com Papa did not switch yet, we are discussing the rig updates and screen updates. His opinion is that he wants to fly a mature FM, not an open beta, so we waited. And actually right now the FM of BoS is mature, they fixed the FW. For that same reason we never switched to cliffs of Dover, and we probably missed a complete milestone in air combat simulation. 5 months ago I switched to fly on BOS, and I fly mainly with my new friends from JG17. We meet on the official il2 ts server. I miss those times from the old il2 1946 from Airwar. However a lot of known names and squads are here and I am happy to see them all flying online. Hi Zdrytch the new patch not only allows unlimited increased boost but the FM changed too. The La5 can pull harder before buffeting occurs. That means in expert hands it is much more dangerous in rolling scissors than before. Edited March 18, 2017 by JG27_Kornezov
JG27*Kornezov Posted March 18, 2017 Author Posted March 18, 2017 (edited) I got this question on youtube by ZdrytchX -{Reference How come the planes are so easy to spot on your screen? I've got a 1280x1024p screen and for some reaon I can't even identify an aircraft until I'm about 150m away from them or about 300m if I get to see the wing area. I can't spot a plane beyond 2km because they are about 2 pixels wide and blend with the surroundings... Not seeing contacts is a frustrating experience, through a lot of trial and error and help from my friends I made my configuration. I do not know what is the bottle neck for you so I will tell you my configuration. The main idea behind the optimization of the settings is to give you blended distance terrain features with higher colour contrast of the dot at the maximum attainable FPS . We have the same screen. My screen is set at refresh rate 70 hz. In game I use balanced settings. Vsinc - off SSAO - off - not sure that affects anything in contacts recognition HDR - off - When it is on there is like mist everywhere and that makes seeing contacts difficult. Distant grass - off Distant landscape -normal FPS limiter - off Antialising - off Gamma correction - mine is set 0.6 or 0.7 but this is done not in the game menu. I change it with notepad by modifying the gamma settings manually the file setup in the directory 1Cgame studios/ il2/data/ you need to make a backup of the file before doing so. Here you need to make a change in the following line of code: [KEY = graphics] adapter = 0 bloom_enable = 0 desktop_center = 1 detail_rt_res = 1024 fps_counter = 1 fps_limit = 0 full_height = 1024 full_width = 1280 fullscreen = 1 gamma = 0.90000 Here change it to 0.6 or 0.7 That will give you darker cockpit. I find it more pleasing but several friends do not like it. For me maybe it makes a little bit greater colour contrast between the plane and the terrain (darker dot over lighter surrounding). Others prefer the in game setting of 0.8. However whenever you make a change it the game graphics menu it will overwrite the file and you will have to reset it manually. I have a modest rig, I have nvidia 750 ti. I set up in the control panel in the settings everything maxed for performance. And then I go in the detailed settings in the vertcial sync i set it to Fast. I think the key is to have blended distance terrain features with higher colour contrast of the dot. That is why I have also the anisotropic filtering off, I do not want terrain features I want them blended. For the moment it is off. My processor is q9650 at 3 GHZ. Just after starting the game (not the startup menu but the game menu) i got back in windows 10 menu then i go to search and I type task manager, then I right click on it and I run it as administrator. In the details tab I right click on the il 2 and set the priority to High. That helps with the FPS giving you a free boost of performance. I do not overclock the processor nor the graphics card. I hope that will help. Edited March 18, 2017 by JG27_Kornezov
BlackBadger Posted June 2, 2023 Posted June 2, 2023 Hi Dude, do you still have this video somewhere? would love to have a look
JG27*Kornezov Posted June 2, 2023 Author Posted June 2, 2023 (edited) 7 hours ago, BlackBadger said: Hi Dude, do you still have this video somewhere? would love to have a look I published again. I have hidden it, because it is an old video of poor quality, and the flight model has change meanwhile. I have another video that is from the la 5 F perspective. The newer la 5 FN is capable of, it is a FW 190 hunter, while meeting 109 on slightly better than equal terms. It is funny when I made the thumnail I was thinking i was using FN but in the track i was with La 5f according to the track. In the original video at the end I use a special 109 technique of very slow speed reversal, while the la 5 is using the standard flaps rolling scissors. In the next video I use the la5 superior roll rate to gain instant advantage as the 109 cannot match the la rolling at high speed. Edited June 2, 2023 by JG27*Kornezov 1
