VDM Prop and Bf109 Take-Offs and Low Speed behaviour.

Well, since the Devs are working on a proper implementation of the VDM Prop Curves, well, I have a number of Expectiations and Questions.

As of now the 109 uses the same Prop Behaviour as the Yak-1 which as far as I know was less aggressive at Low Speeds unlike the VDM.

My guess is that the 109 will be somewhat "Mig-3-ified", and become quite unstable on Take-Off, however the added Low Speed Acceleration may be an absolute Dream for the Prop Hanger Crowd.

I'm looking forward to it.

That Article why I started this Thread.

Interesting observation. I hadn't thought of it in terms of comparing to the MiG-3. There are reasons to expect, that the instability will never be anywhere near as bad as on the MiG, but it'll be very interesting to se, how it turns out.

It may be a progression from Emil to Gustav in terms of Difficulty.

Very interesting post and linked comment from a 109 pilot.

I always found takeoff and landing extremelly easy on IL-2 BoX, contrasting with what I can read about the infamous handling characteristics.

I can takeoff using just the rudder, no need for asymmetric braking, and even with the tailwheel unlocked it works flawlessly.

Is that "VDM Prop" model update metioned in any DD ?

Because I am looking forward for the roll-yaw coupling update but I wasn't aware there was also a prop dynamics comming ?

Yep.

Where did anyone ever say anything about using the Brakes on Take-Off though? This Pilot only talks about using Rudder and making Frequent Changes as well as letting the Aircraft Dictate which Direction it wants to Take-Off in.

Great, it escaped me reading through the DDs...

Regarding the use of asymmetric brakes, other pilot reports mention it, but I do not have one handy here... Will search and try to add it to the thread.

The VDM data was IIRC needed to check if the current model is fine. So was it checked and found that it is not fine? Because otherwise exactly nothing will happen ;)

It's quite long ago, but I think the Devs stated that the Current 109 flies with the same Prop as the Yak as they lacked the correct Data at the time.

DD 138:

Therefore, as a part of this task we have a counter-favor to ask our community to help us to find the original German (or any other) sources with the aerodynamic characteristics of DVL series propellers, or VDM propeller particularly. In our work we have been forced to use the DVL propeller data taken from Soviet sources as we did not find anything better. We fully admit that the recalculating of propeller characteristics using our current curves could give incorrect results. Therefore, we very much hope for your help in finding the original DVL (VDM) diagrams like this:

Doesn't say anything about the 109 having the same prop behavior as Yak.

I  am pretty sure DVL has been a German institution/company since 1912

DVL = Deutsche Versuchsanstalt fur Luftfahrt.

Came into being during the Great War as I recall.

Oh Klaus. Soviet sources does not mean Yak propeller.

If you think that's funny, please come to Denmark. We spell it without the "H". Our public transportation time tables are called "fart-plan", traffic speed control is called "fart-kontrol", a trip with a ferry is called an "over-fart" and we stil have some old elevators (lifts) that has a little sign saying "I FART" (litt. "in speed")that lights up, when the elevator is moving.

.... and "Fart fælde" (Fart trap) - Speed trap - same as police speed control....

....that will give You a "Fart bøde" (Fart ticket) - same as speed ticket....

....if Your catched with "For høj fart" (Over Fart) - same as over speed...

..amd so on...

The childish part of me sounds like I'd have a hell of a humorous adventure in Denmark.
