Hello guys.

I really want to buy Il2 battle of stalingrad but was thinking of perhaps waiting for a sale and buying 1946 until then. Ive got a thrustmaster t1600m i use for DCS. So should i buy battle of stalingrad for £60 now or buy 1946 and wait for a sale?

Thanks,

James

Tough call.

IL-2: 1946 is so inexpensive these days you can probably just grab it and have lots of fun for the price of a lunch. That said, I'm finding it harder to go back to it as IL-2: BoS and follow on products have upped the ante considerably in most ways (minus having 160+ aircraft/variants to fly).

thanks mate for the reply i think i am just going for it. Only thing is i think im going for just the standard edition of bos to start with and build on that. :)

That's a good idea! You get a lot of good stuff from the IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad Standard Edition that should serve you well in both single and multiplayer and then when you are ready or can take advantage of a sale you can jump in on the other stuff.

Agreed. BoS standard has a really good starter set. You can always build up you hangar as you go!

Once I flew BOS, I couldn't go back.

I would say move forward, not backwards - there is plenty of content and soon Kuban map and plane set is coming out.

I expect the OP brought this by now, but I started with the standard plane set and only brought the extra planes at sales because I thought they were cool, but not worth the full retail price and the good thing is that they are not power weapons that will make you better than everyone else. Actually the mc202 extra plane (for battle of Moscow later) is probably one of the harder planes because of its light armament means you need to be a really skilled pilot to get lots of shots on the target while fw190 extra plane for bos hits hard, but can be out turned by almost everything.

I buy almost everything. Why, because it is my passion, hobby and stress relief. I own all most every ROF plane, BOX game, DCS world, CLOD , IL2'46, Lock on, Flaming Cliffs, Flanker 2.0 ( that got me into sims to begin with) that is offered.

But that's just the Sim junkie in me.

'46 is great but its showing its age, even with the mods the graphics are not up to today's standards. But its cheap and has like 140 different planes you can fly!

BOS looks so much better. If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, I'd say go for that and then build on it.

The nice thing is you don't have to buy it all to be able to fly on line with others that have more than you bought. You can be in a server with ones that have the extra add on planes or planes from another map, so there is that.

Don't know 1946, but Battle of offers simply the most remarkable everything ( starting with flight dynamics which are the most important for me.. ) of any sim I have ever used!

Go for Battle of... X

You would have to describe what you're looking to get out of a flight sim.

Multiplayer? Single player? Do you want lots of planes, or specific planes? If you just want certain planes, which are they? What theatre do you prefer? How much does graphics matter to you?

If you like the planes and theatre in BOS and graphics matter to you to some degree, I would go for BOS. If you prefer the freedom of more planes, the extra theatre, and graphics don't matter that much to you then I would say 1946.
