Flyingpencil Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Starting a discussion about doing a race in game, much like the Red Bull air races. It could be obstacle slalom course where speed and manuverability will be tested, as the high G turns could cause blackouts or high-speed stalls and/or hit the pylons if the player does not manage his speed right. It can be an excellent advance training tutorial for new players to understand ACM tactics. I know a few of you will say this is an air combat sim, but let me point out: BoS will have a few aircraft playing over a tiny patch of the earth focused mainly on air-to-air combat for quite a long time, maybe 2 years? TO keep the interst in this game, variety is a must, and an air raceing setup can be implemented quickly. It is also a good way to test FM with controled parameters. Rather then saying NO, think if it is to be made, what do you think it should have?
=IRFC=SmokinHole Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Several people including me tried this in RoF. I thought it was great fun. Others disagreed and it never really caught on. Very easy to do with the Editor so I don't think you will have a problem making this happen once the game releases. I'll show up even if no one else does.
Rivet Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Well I can sort of understand why it wasn't too popular in ROF. Instead of Air Racing it was more of a sort of Air Sauntering, which is not to say it wasn't fun of course. The original IL-2 Air Racing was started as just bit of friday night fun by a member of a squad I was once a member of. It caught on big time and I think it is still going with it's own spin off website and is still very popular. There were league tables and all sorts of stuff and of course the air racing skins. If pylons, start/finish banners, are made by either the devs or the community, that's all that would be required really and once the mission editor becomes available it shouldn't be too hard for the community to create courses to use. I think It would be great to bring the old Air Racing up to date in this sim - but maybe first things first. The team has a lot on their plate right now.
