A GOOD mission in the current Campaign mode

I just had the best example of the current Campaign strengths and weaknesses.  Flying an Il-2 in the early days of the Battle of Moscow.  We were tasked with hitting a supply convoy, at dusk, and in the rain.  I was on full-real with long distance.  We took off in the crap weather, made our way to the target.  I finally managed to find the convoy, and preceded to tear it apart (taking some damage in the process)...my wingmen, however were nowhere to be seen.

Anyway, after I expended all my ammo, I high-tailed it home (as other flights were reporting Enemy Fighters nearby).  As I near the base, the AAA opens up.  Just as I'm on final I notice 4 He111s dropping their sticks of bombs right on the runway...not 10 yards from my left wing actually.  I'm literally only feet above the ground and flaring when KABOOM and I'm rocked and thrown around...smoke everywhere, I can't see anything.  I do manage to get her on the ground, but apparently I suffered damage from the bomb blast, and my gear collapses.  I grind to a halt with the prop digging a hole in the ground.

Mission Complete.

If the devs can keep this type of mission generation, but add the correct Squadrons, ranks, and realistic mission goals, I would be a happy camper.

Have had some good moments, and some good but frustrating moments (mainly due to the requirement of points to progress but not reciving any even if you return alive and recover the aircraft.) Once had some fighters follow me home after a ground attack mission, landed damaged, then had a fighter attempt to strafe me, and during his gun run an AAA gun hits him, and his aircraft hits mine on the runway and kills me. Funny as hell in retrospect, but furstrating in the moment, especially given the failed mission after limping home.

I've had some pretty interesting moments in the campaign as well, and if you pay attention, there is always a huge amount of stuff going on around you both on the ground and in the air.

However, it's gonna be so great to finally get to have a named pilot and keep track of his (her?) achievements in the sim. I know we have PWCG and as great as it is (and it is really, really good) it always takes me out of the experience, when I have to tab out of the game to generate the next mission.

I don't fly SP very often, but hopefully the devs will incorporate PWCG into BoS the same way they did in RoF. I works great and it's almost seamless.

Around the time the devs announced BoK, they also said, that they would make a plug-in in the sim for PWCG, so you might get your wish soon enough.

The RoF campaign eventually got closer to PWCG in concept (fly the whole war, etc.).  1C is working on a BoX campaign.  I would be pretty surprised if the RoF campaign code base did not form the basis of that development.  If all goes well what you will have is a campaign very similar to RoF, also kind of like PWCG, but with with improvements from lessons learned.  Ideally the best of all, fully incorporated into the product.

No pressure.  :)

Also, I hope they continually patch the career for over a year, and sort out all the minor problems that plague ROF career(No Gotha bombing strikes on England to intercept, no bombing strikes by 2-seaters ever, no 2-seaters patrolling the lines and doing photo recon and artillery spotting, the 2-seater pilots you escort in the fighter careers always have the same name, pilots in your squadron never get killed on missions you do not take part, but get kills, German crusiers always off the coast of England, no British crusiers off the coast of Belgium, no convoys sailing along the coast, no drifters laying minefields and nets in the channel). Also, a final patch to the ROF Career would be very nice, please don't let that sim die. I doubt it would take much time and resources to fix up a mega final patch, maybe in the downtime just after BoK is released? Or as a present for Easter or something. To me, the biggest issues are the 2-seater issues, they should be the most common planes seen ovee no mans land, and alert missions should basically be a WW1 version of the BoS campaign bonber intercept mission. Gothas going to bomb factories in England and France would be a nice varient of that.
