RaFiGer Posted March 24, 2018 Author Posted March 24, 2018 @Community As I promised here is one paint scheme for a Fw-190 A6 from Sturmstaffel 1 Dortmund, Germany early 1944. For testing with its specific Normal Map File (included in Download) I would appreciate to get some feedback about it The scheme is based on the book Sturmstaffel 1 Reichs Defence 1943-1944 The War Diary by Eric Mombeek! Here are some pictures & the Link to download skin and paintscheme! Have fun & enjoy http://rafiger.de/Homepage/IL2-BOS-Museum/Info-Sturmstaffel1/Fw-190-A6-Sturmstaffel1-White2.zip Spoiler 1 2
RaFiGer Posted March 25, 2018 Author Posted March 25, 2018 (edited) @Community I have finalised the first paint scheme of the Fw-190 A6 flown by Unteroffizier Gerhard Vivroux in February 1944 belonging to the special heavy Bomber Destroyer Squad of Sturmstaffel 1. I will publish all skins that had a similar 3 plate additional armour mounted on both sides of the fuselage made of 5 mm thick steel plates. You have to use my special Normal Map (Bump Map), which will visually imitate the plates on the war birds. And... I have finally adapted the Alpha Channel to get rid of the mirror looks Now it is saturated and looks more like real life My special page with history of Sturmstaffel 1 will follow a bit later but meanwhile I will post download links for the skins to allow testing Here's the paint scheme and the download links for 2k and 4k skins and the related Normal Map file: Fw-190 A6 - White 2 in 2k resolution Fw-190 A6 - White 2 in 4k resolution Normal Map (with Original Bumpmap included) Spoiler Edited March 25, 2018 by RaFiGer 1 1
RaFiGer Posted March 27, 2018 Author Posted March 27, 2018 @Community I have finished my Template for the Bf-109 G6 Model and will prepare now some paint schemes for JG 1 & JG 3 and if there is time for more The Template is mixed and made up by myself from the public ones of the G-Series and of course influenced by BlackHellHound1 in regards of wheatering and Bf-109 related tips & tricks! If I finished (still some flaws) I could release it to for the public if there are enough who would like it Here's some teaser: Spoiler 3
RaFiGer Posted April 1, 2018 Author Posted April 1, 2018 @Community, I'm reworking my little page and present in the next days some more paint works dedicated to the Fw-190 A models and the Bf-109 F & G models. I start with already finished skins for Fw-190 A3 which I have done lately and have updated & updated till today So please have a look on my new page and test the skins together with a new Normal Map, which will together with reworked Alpha channel present the birds in a nice way. There will be much more building up a "fake" mission related to the fights between RAF& later USAAF and the JG 1. There are some really good described incidents and mission which are brilliantly featured by Eric Mombeek and Jochen Prien together with Peter Rodeike in their books about the Jagdgeschwader 1 & 11. And there are alot of other information's to round the stories up and present skins and missions for the community Here now the link to my page where you can download the schemes together with the new Normal map: The early birds of JG 1 in the West fighting RAF & USAAF 1 2
RaFiGer Posted April 2, 2018 Author Posted April 2, 2018 (edited) @Community Now my page related to the Bf-109 models for JG 1 is ready and present the first four paint schemes of an quite nice road of schemes covering the Bf-109 E, F and G-series. For the F-series I used the wonderful template by BlackHellHound1 for the G-series I will use my own templates, which I will share to the community also. You will see that many pilots of JG 1 or former JG 3 will show up with different model. So they first was flying Bf-109 models, switches to Fw-190 a and later D-models and also back the Messerschmitts or even the ME-262. So, stay tuned for more and here are my first paintschems in 2k and 4k Quality: Messerschmitts of JG 1, 3 and 11 Spoiler Edited April 2, 2018 by RaFiGer Sorting ;) 1 2
RaFiGer Posted April 8, 2018 Author Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) @Community Just a small update besides the Templates for Bf-109 G4 & G6. I'm working now on paint schemes for the JG 3 and here the Bf-109 G6 models that was used to attack the heavy bombers of U.S.A.A.F in late 1943 and early 1944. This wing had their special symbol a Comet and his trail on there hood, with the comet itself on the "Beulen" of the Bf-109-G6. There is already a default skin of the Bf-109-G6 flown by Hauptmann Langer, but this is in 2k and there's a small flaw because it did'nt have the "Reichsverteidigungsband" a white ribbon around the fuselage tail (as of JG 3) at that time in October 1943,. The RVB was applied in January 1944, so therefore you will get some skins of October 1943 and some covering 7./JG 3 in January 1944 Here's a teaser: Spoiler Edited April 9, 2018 by RaFiGer 2
RaFiGer Posted April 15, 2018 Author Posted April 15, 2018 (edited) @Community To much to do and so just to share I upload two of my new paint schemes for the Bf-109 G6. These are only two out of a series of all together ten paint schemes of planes flying with Jagdgeschwader 3 "Udet" during late 1943 till beginning of 1944. The schemes are representing the most most successful unit in the "Reichsverteidigung" at this time sporting the Comet Squad of 7./JG 3 and the Exe Squadron of 9./JG 3. JG 3 scores the most aerial victories in that time with only minor losses while other units takes heavy death toll by the USAAF and RAF bomber and fighter forces. First one is the plane of Hauptmann Karl-Heinz Langer who scores his last victories with this plane before struck by defence fire of the bomber crew he bailed out on October 14th, 1943: Bf-109-G6 "White 1" of 7./JG 3 flown by Hauptmann Karl Heinz Langer Second one is the plane of Feldwebel Alfred Surau who scores his last victories with this plane before struck by defence fire of the bomber crew and died to his injuries in hospital on October 14th, 1943: Bf-109-G6 "Yellow 6" of 9./JG 3 flown by Feldwebel Alfred Surau Some pictures of the planes in game: Spoiler Edited May 6, 2018 by RaFiGer Renewed Link and Pictures 1 3
RaFiGer Posted May 6, 2018 Author Posted May 6, 2018 (edited) @Community Finalising the Bf-109-G6 Template I'm now busy to finalise also a bunch of Bf-109 G6 paint schemes presenting planes flown by JG1, JG 3, JG 27 & JG 52. First I was able to gather good information's to build up at least 12 schemes covering 2 units of 7./ JG 3 the so called "Comet-Squad" and 9./JG 3 named "Eye Squad" because of their painted Comet & Eye Symbols onto the "Beulen" of the Bf-109 G6/R6 birds. Because it is very time consuming to do Templates, Missions and Schemes I setup first a page for presenting complete packs of the different schemes. First you could download 4 Skins of the Comet-Squad dated mid to end 1943 and two Skins of the Eye Squad also dated mid to end 1943. Two "Eye" Skins are not ready yet and will be added as soon I finished them. After that I will add 1944 versions of the Comet Squad and planes of II./JG 3 with also nice pattern. JG 1 will be next with also a Squad featuring German Aces which fight against U.S.A.A.F. and RAF forces during 1943 and 1944 over the Western front. So, here's what I present for download, done with my latest Template Version V003a and with the absolute necessary Normal Map to give all the intended In Game look of the schemes You can download them on my Page or the links I give here for the packs! Zargos Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 (edited) Hi RaFiGer, Nice work on these G6 ! By the way, leave me some skins to do ... even I've made a lot of Russian planes these last month I want to make some german skins again (especially G6 with your 4K template !). Edited May 7, 2018 by Zargos 1

RaFiGer Posted May 7, 2018 Author Posted May 7, 2018 @Zargos, that is really a good choice, I now what you mean speaking about the black paintings But I'm pretty sure you will do it in a perfect way! I'm eager to see it I got drawings from two other Nightfighter in my latest book, I scan them and maybe that is also something from interest for you!
Zargos Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 (edited) @RaFiGer Eventually I won't make this skin because it is a bf109G-6 AS and the nose shape is very different from the G6. But I'll make a similar skin for a G6 from the JG300 during oparation Wilde Sau in 1943 : Spoiler It's a skin I've made for the old IL2, and the underwing is black as well ! RaFiGer Posted May 7, 2018 Author Posted May 7, 2018 (edited) @Zargos Yes this one of JG 300, and you're right it is a Bf-109 G6 and will fit much better I scan the other ones and send it just for Information! RaFiGer Posted May 7, 2018 Author Posted May 7, 2018 (edited) @Zargos I have these two books about JG 300 by Jean-Yves Lorant & Richard Goyat Vol. I & II which a lot a information's and coloured profiles. First page are showing a coloured "Yellow 17" flown by Oblt. Gerhard Stamp from 8./JG 300 with photographs dated 9th November 1943. I think that is a must to be done by you knowing how you bring the La5 into life Here's the link to Claes Sundin's Interpretation and some scan out of the book: 8./JG 300 Gerhard Stamp "Yellow 17" Edited May 7, 2018 by RaFiGer
RaFiGer Posted May 21, 2018 Author Posted May 21, 2018 (edited) @Community Beside updating the Template for the Bf-109 G4 I progress slowly, slowly towards presenting some mor individual Bf-109 skins. Because of my limited time due to intensified work issues my progress is very slow, so therefor a little update to my WIP I'm concentrating on some paint schemes covering the Bf-109 G-series of the Luftwaffe Aces Herman Graf & Alfred Grislawski based on the really good books of Christer Bergström Graf Grislawski Ritterkreuzträger - Zwei Jagdflieger Asse (Jagdgeschwader 52), which I will get around this week in the German edition! I already got some information, but I decide to order the book to have more information direct on hand Once I receive the book I will put up a download link to their Bf-109-G6 which I have finished, but I have to wait for a confirmation about the personnel emblem of Hermann Graf, which I have drawn regarding a photograph but there is a confirmation needed that it was coloured in the way I finished it Just a teaser: And some more historial pictures together with so far archived screenshots: Spoiler Edited May 21, 2018 by RaFiGer 2 1
BOO Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 (edited) Great Template, Great skins!!! If you're looking at night colours btw, have a play with the alpha as a paint layer instead of a mask and some darker greys. It wont be perfect but some of the contrasts from the layers of grime and dirt can be inspiring Edited May 21, 2018 by BOO 2
RaFiGer Posted May 21, 2018 Author Posted May 21, 2018 Hey BOO, that is quit a good tip, I will try it These JG 300 planes are quite attractive in their "blackend" outfit!

The loop antenna for the FuG16ZY actually belongs more to Fw-190-A6 models, but it is good to do A6-skins Is it possible to hide this loop antenna to have a true A5 ?
RaFiGer Posted June 1, 2018 Author Posted June 1, 2018 @Ptolemy_Soter It is possible to blend it out with the use of the Alpha Channel. I will try that and answer!
Danziger Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 You can make it appear invisible but it will still cast a shadow.
Ptolemy_Soter Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 (edited) Ok so this is not a good solution... You said that FuG16ZY radio belongs more to the A6 model. Does that mean that A5 model had this radio too ? Do you know how common it was on A5 ? Edited June 1, 2018 by Ptolemy_Soter
RaFiGer Posted June 1, 2018 Author Posted June 1, 2018 @Ptolemy_Soter What was used on A5 Models was the FuG 25 Antenna behind the PR 16 "Peilrahmen", so actually the "Peilrahmen" was partly used on the Fw-190 A5 in connection with the FuG 16Z definitely, the Morane Antenna under the Wings (System FuG 16ZE/16ZY) like installed on the Bf-109 G14 In Game was used commonly with the Fw-190 A6 and of course the later models. It is like it is, we have hybrid versions of the Fw-190 in the same way like on the Bf-109, but the Messerschmitt sported more models but also with flaws. Maybe in the future we will have more mods to build up the existing 3D Models to include the Version Variation But with the help of the Alpha Channel you can get rid of the PR 16 So it is a problem not to have an true A6, but also not a really true A5
Ptolemy_Soter Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Good to know ! I'm curently working on a topic to reference every 3D model errors. I've spotted some of them like the La 5FN radio mast (I'm surprise nobody haven't noticed it as it is an obvious one). My goal is to establish a collaborative work to help developpers. Distinct from errors, I'd like to list every significant variation used on a particular plane. So the Fw 190 A5 is on the list. 1
RaFiGer Posted June 1, 2018 Author Posted June 1, 2018 (edited) @Community Now with the Bf-109 G14 on hand I continue with the Graf & Grislawski series. One of the Plane Alfred Grislawski flew was the Bf-109 G14 with Werknummer 462649 with which he was shot down by Colonel Hubert Zemke of 479 FG on September 26th, 1944. The profile is not documented but was used on Bf-109 G14 of JG 53 by that time. Numeral and W.Nr. are identified correctly, so I use the information out of the Graf & Grislawski book by Christer Bergström and take the profile from Claes Sundin Here's a short link to Claes Sundin's interpretation (more in the a.m. book): Air combat over Münster! Spoiler There are some addition's I found out regarding my template file and I will solve that in a short time, then the download will be available! Edited April 10, 2020 by RaFiGer 2

It wasn't changed to the angled version until a later series. It actually was one of the first things noticed on the FN. I've put together a list of 3d model errors for the MiG-3. They've been chipping away at that for a few years when the 3d modeler has free time. 1
RaFiGer Posted April 9, 2020 Author Posted April 9, 2020 (edited) @Community After a long absence due to work & live issues I have restarted my interpretations of mostly Luftwaffe Skins for the Messerschmitt and the Focke Wulf series. Right now I polish up my old little page and also refurbish my Templates with adapted Bump Maps. During the next weeks I will post my progress and of course the paint schemes I'm working on. My newest oldest page will cover a high altitude Fighter Squadron witch was launched July 1943 under the command of Major Hermann Graf as Jagdgeschwader 50 based at Wiesbaden-Erbenheim (near Frankfurt am Main on Bodenplatte Map). I will start the page with two know birds Bf-109 G6/R6 of Hermann Graf and Alfred Grislawski which was used during a Propaganda show but flew in reality mission against B-17 (of course ) Bomber Formations mainly because their real mission in hunting the infamous Mosquitos wasn't really successful I will present links for the skins by tomorrow, today just some teasers: Spoiler First three pictures of the Bf-109 G6 "Green 1" of Stab I./JG 50 of Hermann Graf: Next two of Alfred Grislawski's Bf-109 "White 10" of 1./JG 50: Edited April 10, 2020 by RaFiGer Bf-109 against B-52... they had to take an airlift to get there 8 2

Madcop Posted April 12, 2020 Posted April 12, 2020 Hello Rafiger, Thank-you for these two beautiful birds. I know that you know perfectly well that Graf's machine was an Erla Production. So, isn't it possible to represent the Erla engine cowling with its characteristic on the right side ? I am asking you that as the game's G-14 has this type of cowling ( speaking about the right side). I am not a skinner, and knowing your work I suppose this is not possible... Am I right ? I'won't talk about the type K-4 outer wheel covers that Graf's machine was equipped with as these are animated parts... Are you also going to do the Bf 109G-6 Erla W.Nr. 15912. 'Green 3' from the same unit and flown by Gottfried Weiroster ? ? Thank you very much for your time and effort. 1
RaFiGer Posted April 12, 2020 Author Posted April 12, 2020 Hello Madcop There are these limitations that prevent doing paint schemes 100% accurate Only for the G-14 you have the 3D "Beule" in IL2, the G-5 Model is not available as these planes used the cover for an air compressor unit. Graf's (Wk. Nr. 16346) plane was an G-6/U2 build at Messerschmitt Factory in Regensburg (Mtt R, so that I have to change on the type plate, thanks for reminding me) and Grislawski was an Erla build one, definitely had this cover (photo evidence in the Graf & Grislawski book, page 200). Actually I have tried it, but I had to do a different Normal Map to have at least a 3D effect for the cover, so I stay with the "wrong" cowling ? But of course I will do some more paint schemes to have at least 8 skins available for JG 50, so Gottfrieds "Green 3" is already in work! Thanks again for you input!
