Kling Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) well just out of intrest, did 777 get any new ROF simmers due to this forum? :D Edited December 23, 2012 by Kling
BMA_FlyingShark Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I got RoF since the day it came out here in Belgium. ~S~
Bearcat Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 You do know that this is not the RoF forum though right..? (I'm just sayin...) I imagine a lot fo folks would want to try RoF to see what possibilities may exist for BoS..
theOden Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Tried RoF a 2nd time due to this but could'nt really get into it this time either (like in 2011) - props is a long step for a Falcon4 e-pilot and maybe WW1 is a bridge too far. Will bide my time for BoS
Skoshi_Tiger Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Download? I paid $80AUD for the boxed version back when it was released. 1
pilotpierre Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Download? I paid $80AUD for the boxed version back when it was released. Ditto

Feathered_IV Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 80Au for me too. Had it installed since day one. It was "the best game I never play" for the first six months, but couldn't leave it alone after the first few new aircraft came out.
Foobar Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I don't play RoF very often though I've bought all cockpits already. I like the idea and the product.
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 As soon as I find time to do it. Like Bearcat said, I will be interesting to see how the basic system stacks up against other titles.
VaeTibi Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Sorry I will only buy the boxed version, down loading a game is sometimes money out the window when you get a faulty key 1
Skoshi_Tiger Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Sorry I will only buy the boxed version, down loading a game is sometimes money out the window when you get a faulty key Nowadays the basic game is free but you only get two aircraft. If you like what you see you can purchace aditional aircraft. Cheers!
dburne Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) I downloaded the free version and then updated it with the purchase of the ICE edition just couple of days ago, mainly out of curiosity. I purchased ICE mainly to support the developers as well. WWI is really not my thing, but wanted to give it a try and see how it was considering BOS will be using the same engine. ECV56_Guevara Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 downloaded the free version a few days ago, to try it and see how could be BoF.
AX2 Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) I download the RoF, Thanks to the BoS proyect I was very curious about the RoF Graphics and Physics engine, And many members of the squad did the same. And all buy Riese Of Flight Croos Edition for only $ 8 After few days of testing ...we all say RoF is awesome Now We are all very happy with RoF. . Edited December 22, 2012 by Mustang
Revvin Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I bought it not long after it was released. Its a free flight sim so I'd recommend it to any flight sim fan.
ATAG_Slipstream Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I bought it as soon as they got rid of the always online bit, I couldn't even play it for a few months, as my graphics card wasn't strong enough, Still bought planes though, as support is needed in this genre. Now I have everything, including preorders, except some weapons mods and pilots stuff. As its free for the basic game everyone should have it.
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 and with that I just finished purchasing every thing! So does this mean I get BoS free? I'm really waiting on that Channel map!
Pudfark Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I downloaded the free version and then updated it with the purchase of the ICE edition just couple of days ago, mainly out of curiosity. I purchased ICE mainly to support the developers as well. WWI is really not my thing, but wanted to give it a try and see how it was considering BOS will be using the same engine. Same reasons here. I have not made enough time to give it a fair trial. Though, I'm impressed with it so far. I imagine, when my skill and familiarity get up to speed. I'll be on floats most of the time...
334th_L0C0 Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Downloaded it half a year ago, wasn't impressed and didn't touch it until the news of BOS came out.. I'm may purchase a german plane or two in hopes that my money helps make BOS look a bit better than ROF does.
dburne Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Same reasons here. I have not made enough time to give it a fair trial. Though, I'm impressed with it so far. I imagine, when my skill and familiarity get up to speed. I'll be on floats most of the time... Yeah same here, but man I have got some stuff to learn, I am getting my butt kicked in the quick missions so far. I have not spent enough time with it yet to fully evaluate the engine and graphics, so far I am somewhat impressed. Don't know how much time I will give it really, as WWI does not really appeal to me a lot, at least nowhere near what WWII does. If not for BoS, I probably would not have gotten this title. I look forward to seeing what they can do with it for BoS.
BMA_FlyingShark Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 +1 Not interested. You should both at least give RoF a chance. The base sim is free downloadable, you get 2 planes, you can still decide if you stay into it or not. What have you got to loose? ~S~
archer11 Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I made the download a couple of days ago. Not because of this forum, but to see, what it looks like and to get an idea what I can expect from BoS. Now I think about purchasing the Iron-Cross-thingy, Got some nice flashbacks from the RB3D-times...
Jetlagg Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 WWI doesn't have the same "kick-ass" feeling you get when you blast a fighter out of the sky with wing-mounted cannons, nor does it give you the satisfaction of dropping your 16,000 lb. bomb load onto an unsuspecting industrial complex. But there is something about taking what is practically a kite with an engine and experiencing some of what the very first aviators experienced; adrenaline-packed biplane terror.
[KWN]T-oddball Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I tried it about a year ago but never went back after seeing how anemic the online community was but I went and bought a new joystick this week MSFF2 finally wore out I am messing with freetrack and freetracknoir right now with good results. i have a strange graphic glitch happening...every time i go into a dive i get ....maple syrup? all over the screen .
Bearcat Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Not interested. +1 Well that just seems so silly to me... I mean.. you can DL the sim for free.. without dropping a dime.. If you don't like it just remove it from your HD.. but it has cost you noting but time.. I dunno.. You guys can do what you want of course.. but t just seems silly to me under those circumstances.. Even if you don't get into it and never fly online and only do a handfull offline missions at least you can get an idea of what it is like and what BoS might be like..
FlatSpinMan Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Yeah all good points but they're entitled to not be interested in the game or the setting:)
Monk Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) Sometimes it is the period that simply does not interest people. At least I hope it would be something as honorable as that. Each to his own, no point forcing someone into something they are not intrested in. I know guys who have tried and gone "meh, Imma gunna go back to my 'Hog" and others who have gone on to play regularly. I myself downloaded it and had the file on my HDD for about 9 months and never installed it. Was happy still banging around in 1946 after recently coming back to flight sims. Got bored one afternoon and installed it, glad I did. The generosity of a gaming mate at TOG (gifting enough planes to keep me busy for months, thanks Welshie) and a couple of the ROF members have filled out my hanger and now I am glad I did. Have learnt more about flying in these old crates than I ever did pounding supply coloumns in my beloved IL2. I play everything though, ROF, CLOD, 1946 (offline mostly with the DBW mod) and a bit of DCS stuff as well. Can never have too many good sims Edited December 22, 2012 by Monk

That's castor oil. You damaged your engine by either not maintaining operating temperature or by over spinning the prop. Engine management is one if the skills that really needs to be mastered with this one. There are auto settings for them but the planes will only take so much before the engine finally gives up the ghost. Bullets will also do it. It simulates oil splatter on you goggles. Open cockpits are great! Edited December 23, 2012 by Binky
ST_Catchov Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I will not. I already hade ROF since before. BoS, she no interest on me but you wish I well them for project this damn straight cool guysl!
Monk Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Aye, I can never seem to finish a mission in my D.VII without being blinded by the stuff, guess my RPM management is not up to scratch yet. Still, coming off second best and trying ot make it back to one's own lines, blinded by oil, weakened by blood loss, engine stuttering to a stall....great immersion.
wiseblood Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) I had absolutely zero interest in WW1 aviation either up until I started playing it. Probably would have said the same thing about the air battle in the eastern front prior to Il-2 coming out It was a very short path for me from "download ROF" to "buy all the planes, get new joystick, new trackir, half a dozen WW1 books". It's a bit hamstrung by the subject matter I guess, but it's fun because they execute it so well. It's like - say you're trying to get someone to go watch The King's Speech, and you can't get past the bit where they don't feel like watching an australian harangue a guy with a stutter for 2 hours. It's not what it's about that's necessarily the best thing about it. Edited December 23, 2012 by wiseblood

Bearcat Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Simply: i dont like kites Yeah that was my take too.. I prefer WWII.. but nitially I had some other issues as well. I had forgotten but I actually joined the RoF community in 09.. and I tried to get into it but couldn't due to several issues.. That's castor oil. You damaged your engine by either not maintaining operating temperature or by over spinning the prop. Engine management is one if the skills that really needs to be mastered with this one. It's not what it's about that's necessarily the best thing about it. I have flown a few offline missions.. It is not bad at all.. I still have to get some settings right.. but it is so much better than it was in 2009. A totally different experience. The point I was making was that the fact that BoS is coming using this engine changes a lot... but anyway... I am just glad that I have so many things of various degrees of WOW to get my airplane jone off with.. I used to make balsa planes as a kid.. and the first warbird I ever saw that I remember was a Cox P-40. I had a balsa D-7, an Se-5, a Camel, a Neiuport, an Albatross and a Spad hanging from my ceiling and I had these books that my dad had gotten for me from the Famous Aircraft series.. For me all this is like a candy store.
migmadmarine Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I suppose I ought to chime in as well, I got the sim a year and a half or so ago, and at the time wasn't massively interested in WWI flying, but my this sim has changed that. Before I didn't know much on the subject, would only have been able to name a few aces from the time, and couldn't tell the difference between the Albatros models, but could identify virtually any WWII aircraft. Now, I often have to think for a moment when looking at a WWII fighter, and now find myself doing things like thinking of an aircraft as a "machine" not a "plane", and so much more of the times creeping into me.
LLv34_Flanker Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 S! Bought it the day it came to the game shop I buy my all games from
Kling Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Just wanted to add that its awesome to see so many ex Il2 1946 names in here... I was addicted to that forum for ca 8 years or so.. 2001-2010... Then slowly the mod forums became more intresting... Anyway thats another story...
