Hey gang,

Today Oculus announced a large price drop on the Rift. They have lowered the price by 100.00. Also in addition, they have lowered the price on the Touch Controllers by 100.00 as well. So an Oculus plus Touch setup is now 200.00 cheaper.

Not a bad deal, so with VR coming to BOS now might be a good time if you were thinking about a Rift. I just purchased my Rift in Jan and the Touch controllers in early Feb, ugh... that is the way it usually goes for me LOL.

They also state, the next generation (CV2) is at least a couple of years away.

That is very tempting offer now that BoX is getting VR support. Basically the only thing holding me back is the lack of SLI support, if I understand correctly Rift doesn`t support it. I doubt that single gtx970 is enough VR playing.

But looking forward for your reports how it plays with BoX later this month!

Correct, it does not support SLI.

Without knowing how BoX will perform in VR hard to say, but with your rig I would think you should be fine with the GTX 970.

I definitely will share my impressions when it is available.

you could always buy the 1080 which dropped in price significantly . . .  Or go balls to the walls with the newly released 1080Ti.

Single card solutions are so much more reliable - Plus as an added benefit you don't have to fuss over compatibility with anything.

I was hoping price drop would indicate that they are introducing next generation of VR devices with better resolution soon.

there are a few new gen headsets coming out...LG and Lenovo are suggested as being on the cheaper end of the market, but StarVR and Pimax800(?) look amazing.

I checked Pimax, IIRC it doesn't have 6DOF, so it's a no-go. LG looked interesting.

If you mean the PiMax8k, that seems unlikely, can you point me to the source?

I might be wrong, but I got the information from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wvl_15UNFYU

It was the Pimax 4K

Not sure if anyone still follows this post, but it seems the Microsoft VR headset (LG, Lenovo) is NOT aimed at the gaming market. It is suggested as a product pitched somewhere between Rift/Vive, and Google cardboard. So I will stop looking out for that one.
