Irgendjemand Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 (edited) I am an artist myself. And these are just my 5 cents: Taking photos, putting some filters on top and applying some smudge... Personally I would not dare putting my name under it. 1st because of integrity concerns and 2nd because of license concerns.... In case I am wrong and these are not just overpaintet photos/renderings I apologize. EDIT: Its totally fine if you modify pictures like that. And I admit they get something from it. But IMHO you have to clearly say what it is.Dont get me wrong. I am not trying to discourage or anything. Just putting out some well meant advice. Edited February 27, 2017 by Irgendjemand 2
=SqSq=Sulaco Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 As an ad agency creative director with 10+ years of experience I have to agree with Irgendjemand, although a great start to the world of graphic design I would hesitate to refer to 'live tracing' and Photoshop filters as "artwork". Hell, even I refuse to call 90% of what I do with a computer "artwork" and generally reserve the word for only the rarest occasion. That's not to say I don't consider things done digitally as art, but that's a deeper, longer conversation for another day. Detcord, keep it up, this is honestly a great start, try to avoid using filters and live traces, the best advice I can give you is to MASTER the pen tool in Illustrator/Photoshop. You've got a great eye, you'll get there! Keep us posted too, I'd love to see more! Thanks for sharing! 1
Gambit21 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 As a professional illustrator and artist I'm not sure what I think of calling some simple photo manipulation (other's photos no less) "art" Don't get me started on Warhol.
Gambit21 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Then aside from the question of artistic (word used loosely) integrity you have copyright/fair use issues. Were I teaching either an Illustration or professional business practices class this stuff would make great examples of what not to do. Or if you must, at least be smart enough not to make it public.
Finkeren Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 the same can be applied to a kid painting donald duck, he is breaking copyright ownership, we live in a strange sad world Legally he is not, but if the kids mother goes to scan or photocopy the drawing, she's actually in violation of the DMCA. 1
