filbert13 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Hello, I have a X-56 Rhino HOTAS jotstick. I picked it up after my old Saitek Cybrog Gold didn't work for IL-2 Sturmovik BOS. I used to play a few flight simulators and some games like Microsoft Combat Simulator/Fly Aces High 2. But it has been about a decade (as you can tell by how old my previous stick was) since I last dived into a Flight Sim. I haven't found any guides for setting up a X-56. Basically it's been so long since I played a flight sim I have forgotten many of the minor details. I'm not sure what all I should assign to my stick (and optimal locations). I would appreciate if you could give me a list of critical and recommended things to assign. For example should I just have all brakes assigned to a button or assign each break? Which trims do I need? How should I set up my pilot view controls? Thank you for any help and feedback!
Sokol1 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 I would appreciate if you could give me a list of critical and recommended things to assign. For example should I just have all brakes assigned to a button or assign each break? Assign "whell brakes" for one joy button - the pinky button is good candidate. Press that button, both wheels will be braked, now holding the button pressed move the rudder (X-56 twist) for right or left, only that wheel will be braked. Work for any plane of this game. Which trims do I need? Depends on plane, some has trim only for elevator, others for elevator and rudder, and some include trim for aileron too. Topic about set buttons for X-55, basically is the same stick. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/11537-my-saitek-x55-rhino-hotas-mappings/?do=findComment&comment=202478
Scojo Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 I have an X-55 For trim, I set aileron trim and pitch trim to the top right hat switch on my joystick and my yaw trim on the left hat switch. I don't use the D-pad for them because I use that for teamspeak push to talk and bomb interval and drop pattern and Track IR recenter. I think the intended locations for our HOTAS are the wheels on the throttle, The left wheel on the throttle for elevator trim and the two by your thumb for yaw and aileron. However I use the two wheels by my thumb on the throttle stick for RPM and Cowl Shutters. I use the two knobs on the throttle base for Mixture and Radiators. My wheel brakes are the two gray buttons on the front of the throttle stick. When I fly Russian I go into settings and set the right button for all wheel brakes. As far as what you need to bind to the HOTAS, I'll assume you fly all of the aircraft: Engine Start Radiators(Water/Oil) Inlet/Outlet Cowls Mixture RPM Flaps Landing Gear Canopy Bomb Bay Doors Airbrakes Mission Brief Screen Engine Boost Fire Guns/Cannons/Missiles/Bombs Auto Level Field of view zoom in Field of view zoom out Recenter Track IR Eject I think the game sets field of view zoom in and out to the pinky button and lever on the joystick. If it doesn't, that's a perfect place for it! Stuff I use often that I leave on the Keyboard: Nav Lights Instrument Lights Super Charger Stage Toggle Engine Select
filbert13 Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 Thanks for the help everyone! Setting up some of those controls and going to start doing to flights to get the feel for them! I'll report back if I have any questions! Also, recommended deadzone and sensitivity for roll, pitch, and yaw?
filbert13 Posted February 28, 2017 Author Posted February 28, 2017 Follow up questions. When setting up the controls following that guide. SW 1/2 D - Prop Auto/Manual. What keybind is that? I didn't see it. SW 5/6 Gunsight Visor. I couldn't find that keybind either, is it called something else? -POV Hat. The guide said set up alike traditional pov hat. Could someone explain what the exactly means. I did some test flights and I'm liking the feel so far. Starting to get the hang of it. But of course it takes time to memorize some of those switches. I was able to win a few dog fights against AI too! Hopefully if the game has an online community I'll see a few of you in the air, in the coming weeks. 1

Hi Otto, well, I've got the X55 which is quite the same as you combo. You mentioned you pitch axis is a bit too sensitive, so there is the following coming into my mind: - Have you check your trims? - Set them to neutral before you take off - I wouldn't fiddle around too much with the curves I just left mine as they are or at least try to adjust the sensitivity under control device like here: Hope this will help you... et bon vol (eh oui, un autre "froggy french") Cheers
Ghost666 Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Thanks Therion, I had a problem with sensitivity too, tried your suggestion and it helped alot
otto1012 Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 (edited) Thanks Therion , if it is still sensitive , it helped a lot . but i just remenbered that i set the strongest spring on the stick so i think i wil change for a smoother and i will report!....to be continued.
