Sethos Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Hello, I've noticed a lot of tearing in the game, especially when panning inside the cockpit. That's a rare sight when you're running a 144Hz monitor with G-Sync. I tried for the heck of it to enable Vsync which did eliminate the tearing but the FPS went from 120-130, all the way down to 60. That means the game is only running at 60Hz, which would explain why the tearing is so bad when running non-Vsync. So I opened my monitor's information panel and sure enough, confirmation that the game only runs 60Hz. As I recently just got back into the game, I'm not sure if this is new behavior or an old 'bug' (perhaps intended?). Running the latest 378.72 Nvidia drivers on a pair of 980 Ti, on Windows 10 with an Acer XB270HU monitor, if that has any bearing on the problem. Is this intended, a bug, a local issue? something that can be fixed? Thanks.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 (edited) Games dont run @ a Hz.. Monitors Do and this cannot be changed (except via overclocking the monitor)Vsync locks frames to to monitor refresh rate if the machine can pull said frames (eg 60hz locks to 60fps.)Ingame Vsync has some odd behavior at times but Should not be used along with Gsync (use 1 or the other)Game not locked to 60hz for me (i only have 60hz monitor but with Fast sync on it will sync @ 60fps or 120fps depending on what i pull.(gtx 780 in battle i get 50fps so it syncs @ 60Hz but on map i get 100-120 fps and it syncs this to 120hz kinda)No tearing at all here.Note: Game does no properly support SLI i dont think.also single GTX980 should run it fine on Ultra 1080Pi mean my above frames are on GTX780 Edited February 22, 2017 by =r4t=Sshadow14

Note: Game does no properly support SLI i dont think. also single GTX980 should run it fine on Ultra 1080P i mean my above frames are on GTX780 Of course they do. The monitor isn't independent in running refresh-rate. The software, when running fullscreen-exclusive 100% dictates what refreshrate the monitor is going to run at. If the game's engine is only capable of running 60Hz or the settings lock it to 60Hz, then it'll effectively turn the 144Hz monitor into a 60Hz monitor -- Regardless of its capabilities. The only way you'd be able to get around that is running in borderless-windowed or windowed mode. A lot of games today will let you manually select the refresh-rate within the graphics menus or at least, see what the selected refresh-rate is for the given resolution. V-Sync locks the framerate to the game's supported / selected refreshrate, which in this case is 60. Being a 144Hz monitor (albeit running 120Hz to avoid Nvidia idle bug), it'd V-Sync at 120FPS / 120Hz, not 60. So that's a clear indication the game only supports up to a maximum of 60Hz. And given that you have a 60Hz monitor, of course the game is locked at 60Hz for you -- How on earth would you run at anything higher, unless you overclocked the monitor? Fast Sync has nothing to do with the game's refreshrate. Fast Sync means you'll be able to enjoy no tearing with a slight input lag, despite FPS overshoot. Meaning you can run 100FPS+, while your monitor is 60Hz and still not have tearing. You're effectively still only seeing 60 frames per second, despite the reported framerate. That has absolutely nothing to do with refreshrate of the game So obviously, with fast sync, you wouldn't have tearing. Just like I don't have tearing with V-Sync. That's what they are meant to do but I'm looking at running the game unlocked at 144Hz (or 120Hz) / 120FPS, which also eliminates tearing, at least 99% of the perceptible tearing but with zero input lag. Which is especially pleasant when using TrackIR. It's rare to see a game in 2017 that's stuck at 60Hz with no ability to change it -- Even through CFGs. That's why I'm asking if this is a local issue, a setting perhaps, OS related, a bug or something inherent to the engine. Edited February 22, 2017 by Sethos
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Gsync is broken in full screen mode. Use windowed mode for Gsync and in game to. If you use Vsync on together with Gsync yours variable FPS would be matched to refreshrate and can't go above max monitor refreshrate if you use Vsync off then you be allowed to max FPS going above monitor max refreshrate. But then Gsync is off and one can notice tearing but enjoy lower inputlag.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Turn off triple buffering Set pre rendered frames to 1 Turn on Vsyc and wow Max input lag is 9.9ms (that will really hurt game play :|)
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Nothing new. I wonder how you measured that 9.9 inputlag and is this on top or summary? BTW I just mentioned that there is lower input lag but as we know this is really not that important in CFS. You should know that getting rid of tearing or stuttering is obviously more beneficial that input lag in CFS.
Dakpilot Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I thought tripple buffering does not work any longer in DX and is only still there left as legacy option for OpenGL Does it even have an effect on latency if turned on in DX11? interesting to know, even if pointless Cheers Dakpilot

=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I wonder whats causing only some people to have a lock on fps and not others.as for the the game will run whatever HZ the monitor can from 30hz to 200hz for old CRT monitors

Ah, seems there's something going on underneath then. Thanks. Edited February 25, 2017 by Sethos
