First conclusive dogfight I was able to record (actual first dogfights ended in losing sight of the enemy and leaving, heh heh)

also had fun at the part where I fly past his parachute

You shoot from to far, much to far, the target span should be the same size than the reticle span, yours is sometimes not even one fifth.

Which is historical and even fitting in a flight sim. Studies made during and after WWII, most pilots were found to misjudge shooting distances by a factor of two or more. That is likely why most of the higher scoring aces drove right up the backsides of their opponents whenever possible.

As far as someone's comments about the trim affecting the LaGGs' flight characteristics, does anyone else thing the AI makes them look like a mermaid flipping through water? It looks like the tail flips are propelling the A/C. Kinda humorous.

      Hello guyz,

after a few DF, my feeling is that i feel better with the 109, so smooth and powerful!

Anyway, that game looks like a very nice baby, and i hope it will grow far and high.

To add to some thoughts...

I feel that now 109 crowd will be more populated (in comparison to "old IL-2" where there was like 2-3 out of 10 in 109 camp and rest were Würger boys) even when Fw-190 makes its way into BoS...

I feel 109 is simply more agile plane overall, and with updated DM's I don't see an objective need for 4x20mm... school example of an overkill.

(Although Fw agility could be improved if only we could remove outer 20 mils...)

And I also feel that in spite of the fact that 109s held their ground on all fronts, eastern, western, mediterranean, Africa, it will be even better now.

Maybe it's a bit too early to draw conclusions, I mean this is still alpha but... ;)

Many things are simply blending in to "paint a beautiful mosaic picture" of bloody ww2 air war in this game.

I've just tried dogfighting in the LaGG 3 for the first time - got two Bf 109s.   Got back to base unharmed, and apart from the inevitable groundloop, I'd call it a perfect mission. I'll see if I can post a video of the highlights.

Definitely not as easy to dogfight in as the 109 though - it is prone to dropping a wing if you aren't careful.

Do we have any info on what the hit detection is like at the moment, does the sim already use per polygon hits? I'm simply not this good a shot, the enemies are dropping like flies.

Here is me fighting the pair and ham fisting it :P. Didn't give enough credit to the 1st one I damaged and he got some hits on me. Damage model in its current form seems limited. And there really is lacking sounds of getting hit and being fired upon.

First I took the Bf-109, arrived at zone A at 2000m and saw the LaGG passing below.

I started booming'n'zooming him without following him in his turns and really there wasn't much he could do. Finally got a good burst on him and pilot bailed out.

Same happened over zone B, then I picked up a wingman at the airfield and headed for A, always with a good height advantage.

My wingman dived as soon he spotted the lone LaGG and engaged. I thus managed to get the LaGG on my first dive as he was fixated on my wingman.

We headed for B and met two LaGGs, dove on them and by the time I started my second attack my wingman had both smoking already!!

Finished one as he tried to go behind my pal, I was flying parallel to him a few meters away, a bit of left rudder and I hit him hard in the engine and he started burning.

Dove on the other and met him head on, a short burst and he jerked violently downwards and entered in a flat spin. Going on externals I saw the pilot slumped over in his cockpit...

Decided I was short on ammo and headed home.

First fight in the LaGG I arrived with about 700m height advantage. The 109 passed below to the side and made a zoom climb that brought him level with me!!

I gently climbed knowing he was out of energy but knew I wouldn't win a climb contest in the long run.

I had the occasion to dive on him at one moment but missed him. We started turning and then went into some slow scissors where I somehow managed to get behind.

I was able to stay behind, and despite having some good clear shots I couldn't hit him well.

Staying behind in left hand turn at about 270km/h required a lot of work with rudder as to not let the left wing stall!!

Finally he decided to go vertical into the sun and just before I lost him in the glare I let a nice burst go.

As my plane stalled I had the surprise to see a bit of wing with a black cross fluttering above me and I saw the pilot jump out of his crate. That was quite an intense fight!! :)

Took up the 109 and proceeded to zone A... Managed to shoot down the Lagg without any trouble. Must say I was very happy with the feel of flight, the excellent 'thump, thump, thump' as the cannon fired, and a satisfying flash and explosion as parts flew off the enemy aircraft.

I was very impressed with the animation and bale out sequence of the pilot as he climbed out, and I watched as he flew past my cockpit, and as I looked back I saw his canopy develop... :)

On to zone B and although I saw the next Lagg early on, this AI chappie was no novice and I had a fight on my hands... It took several minutes of of me, maintaining an advantage but not quite getting a decisive hit... but eventually the damage was too great to keep his aircraft flying and he piled in from low level...

First impression?... Great stuff!

Rich, your picture/footage is squashed. You need to set Bandicam to the same aspect-ratio as your monitor. Or set the same resolution, it amounts to the same thing.

Unless you have the game running squashed too.

My first dogfight yesterday. LaGG with novice went down. I have damaged second one and run out ammunition. Wanted to ram him and bail out. Surprisingly, LaGG did not show any remarks of collision, I lost part of my wing and did not manage to bail out
