I./JG 51 over the Rzhev Salient campaign

Recommended Posts

I've released a 10 mission Fw-190 campaign on the Moscow map. The player will fly for I./JG 51, the first Fw-190 unit on the eastern front. It takes place during Operation Mars in November and December 1942, so it's a kind of prequel to Veteran's I./JG 51 Velikie Luki campaign.
The campaign is semi-historical and the missions are only loosely based on real events, but the background is historical. Similar to my Ivan's War campaign I've added some random elements to the missions, to increase replayability.

Download link:
http://www.axis-and-allies-paintworks.com/download.php?view.943

Requirements:
You will need the Fw-190A3 and BoM to play the campaign.

Installation:
Extract the folder 'JG51 Rzhev' from the 'JG51_Rzhev.zip' file into the 'IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\Campaigns' folder.

Important - If you had an older version of the campaign installed, first delete the 'ctreecache' file in the 'IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data' folder before launching the game!!! This will update the mission list in the campaign menu and you will see the correct numbers in front of the mission names. A new ctreecache file will be created automatically.

I always wanted to do a 10.(NJ)/ZG1 night fighter campaign on the Kuban map for the Bf-110G, but unfortunatly we don't have a single Soviet night bomber in the game, moreover there are still some AI issues during night missions.

It does seem like the game might not be quite ready for a night fighter campaign. I would be happy with a ground attack campaign with a few interception or escort missions of a well designed, challenging but still

achievable type. Maybe a not an entirely night fighter campaign is in order until the game resources become available....

Maybe it could be a prelude to a night fighter campaign...

:)

It does seem like they shot down a fair few Bostons and there is a couple of Pe2s mentioned so I guess it would be possible. http://www.cieldegloire.com/zg_001.php

Maybe with some compromises a night fighter campaign might be possible, I will think about it.

The problem with a Bf-110G2 ground attack campaign is, that it would require a Kursk map. In the Kuban area the Bf-110G2 wasn't used as ground attack aircraft.

That is quite funny, as the Bf110 G2 career in old IL2 was only there.

Anyway, thank you for your work, Juri.

EDIT: I fortgot the OREL map, I rarely was flying there, as it was quite boring.

Many thanks Juri. I was working through your first campaign for the second time. That will have to go on hold for a while now.

Prior to your previous campaign and the 190 "fix" in the last iteration of the game I avoided the a/c after a few 'see how it feels' sorties. But, now I am a converted butcher bird lover after giving your original campaign a whirl.

Once again, muchos grassy arse for sharing your work.

Thanks for the campaign, a translation to the Spanish possible.
regards.

If anyone is willing to do a complete translation into one of the other languages supported by the game, I will gladly add the translations to the next version of the campaign.

Hi Juri, a suggestion if I may. Can you in any future work provide intercept heights either in the briefing or by radio messages during the flights?

Eggs celent, muchos grassy arse.

I think its Chir Front that has radio messages that give info like "bombers in sector 3108 at 5,000m heading 210.

But even in the preflight brief having a message like "expect bombers north of Toravich around 4,000m" would be beneficial.

Thanks for the very interesting missions!

PS: in this campaign the deadliest opponent was the Pe-2 rear gunner, I'm still amazed by the rapidity with which he can put your aircraft in pieces!

Against AI Pe-2s I prefer head-on attacks. It takes some patience and practice, but it's almost without risk, because the AI pilots don't use the Pe-2's fixed armament.

A very enjoyable campaign, even though I'm a lousy fighter pilot and often have to refly missions because of me not making it back to base. The main problem is here, that a lucky hit to the coolant system or fuel tank stops the enginge before you can land at your far away home airfield.

I would therefore suggest that landing at any friendly airbase (maybe even a survived crash landing in friendly territory) should give a mission success.

@Wittman

You didnt need to limp home with a half dead Plane. It´s enough to reach the nearest active AF behind your lines with a running engine. The game count it as a sucsess.

Btw...thanks to Juri for this Campaign! Maybe we can see a Bf110 Campaign in the future?

Maybe I will do a campaign for 10.(NJ)/ZG1 on the Kuban map.

Link works for me.

That is, this campaign can not be downloaded and played?

This looks great Juri, BZ  :salute:  I'd quite like to see a tutorial campaign personally, something to ease new pilots into the game, but I suspect that would require a lot more work than a regular campaign to do it well.

Awesome, can't wait to play it, your missions are always great mate

I'm also willing to grovel, but for a 109 F-4 or Hs-129 campaign :)

Currently my ideas for potential future campaign projects are:

- Hs-129 campaign for 8./Sch.G.1 on the Kuban map.

-  II. (Schlacht)/LG2 Bf-109E7 campaign during the battle of Kalinin.

- 10.(NJ)/ZG1 Bf-110G2 campaign on the Kuban map.

At the moment I am very busy in real life, so I can't say if and when I can begin to work on one of these projects.

I just finished the last mission, very good campaign... ;)...and very good idea to choose this period, just before the "I./JG51 over Velikie Luki" campaign of dingsda... :good:

If you want a total Focke wulf pilot experience play the opus in this order: "The Butcher" ( Jade_Monkey), "I.JG51 over Rzhev Salient" ( Juri_JS), and "I./JG51 over Velikie Luki" (JG4_dingsda)... :yahoo: ...thank you Juri... :thank_you:...

All of those sounds very nice. But I would lean to the Hs-129, cool plane would make undoubtedly a great campaign.

I enjoy the fourth mission very much and I am trying to finish it by having 3 Pe-2 shot down (not only be me, but also by my wingmen).

The point is that I did not find how to properly tell my wingmen to "attack my target" so that we can mass on a group of Pe2 and saturate their defense :(

Anyway, it is a great campaign, thank you Juri

Unfortunately there is no "attack my target" command. As a flight leader you have almost no influence over your wingmen once the fighting starts.
