Hi there,

I know this has been brought up before, but I tried the fix of reverting to older nVidia drivers... still it isn't stable, and ALWAYS crash, from 5 to 15 mins flying ( especially quick missions dogfights, not much into multiplayer )

Tried different nVidia drivers ( from November to Now ).

Windows 10 64 bits

I7 3970X @3.5 ghZ

nVidia GTX Titan

32GB RAM

Thanks for your help guys !

+1

I'm having the same issue, crashes after 5 min or so after starting a mission.

I had this problem before after the previous release (I have a GTX 780) but I was able to remedy by reverting to older drivers.

Yup...

This is the message I got :

" Fullscreen mode is not available : DXGI_STATUS_OCCLUDED "

Then " IL-2 Sturmovik stopped working "

I really miss that game aaah !

When I click ok and restart I can play for 5 minutes before display freezes and it crashes

Even though all is very smooth at max details

Frustrating I'm sure. With your hardware...  you should NOT be experiencing such problems.

Well, I just tried something, deactivating VSync, and for now it seems to work ;-)

Great. Is that all you had to change?

Posted

Yep !

No crash for now... both on and offline, what a delight ;-)

So, if anyone is experiencing trouble with nVidias, try DEACTIVATING VSYNC first !

Plus I never found it what VSync actually does, in any game

Oh no... it just re-happenned

DAMN !!

Is there any log I can post to the devs or something ?

I opened two logs that were edited at the hour of the last crash :

Sound.log :

Plus I never found it what VSync actually does, in any game

It syncs the game's refresh rate to the monitor's refresh rate, meaning lower responsiveness (if you were getting 110fps on a 60fps monitor, going back to 60fps will feel slightly sluggish but look just as smooth)

Basically, the game is rendering the image pixel by pixel, it fills in each line (from top left, to top right) and then jumps down to the next line and so on. Eventually it will have drawn an image. Every 1/60th of a second (on a 60fps monitor) your monitor turns to the graphics card and says "give me a new picture to display" and the graphics card hands over whatever it has right now. Which is fine if the GPU is running at 60fps, but if it's running at 90fps then it will have drawn half of the next frame on top of the last one, and you'll get this mish-mash of the two images sent to the monitor. The result is "tearing"

Screen_tearing-image.jpg

Vsync tells the GPU to WAIT after it has made the image (rather than immediately starting the next one), so that when the monitor asks for the new image it is ALWAYS a full, not-torn image. With Vsync on framerate is capped at 60fps.

Unless the screen tearing drives you insane, it's always best to keep vsync off.

Wow, thank you very much Peregrine for this NEAT explanation !!!!

Now, does anyone occurs same crash as me, on a GTX TITAN ( and various drivers, latest and olders ? )

IL-2 is really unplayable since, I thought I got rid of it... just a thought I'm afraid.

Thanks
