Maybe just a matter of replacing the PSU?

 

That's what had to be done in my case.

After switching on the PC it said 'Pets!', some smoke at the backside and that was it.

After replacement it was up and running the next day.

yep google the paperclip test, it will tell you if your psu is kaput.
