=ARTOA=Rauchenderkolben Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 (edited) for me, the winter is over and can't hold it much longer. I miss VR-Support so much that I'd rather have directX9 back. At least some words from devs would be nice if they have made progress or still need another "winter". I just don't like the silence around this topic. The devs of star citizen almost report everything, why can't these ones just update from time to time, saying "hey, this is what we are working on, these are the current problems with implementing vr, bla bla bla ". you see the same question about VR everywhere. People would like to know about this stuff. Edited February 7, 2017 by =ARTOA=Rauchenderkolben 2
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 (edited) Obviously you did not you hear anecdotes about how long Russian winter is. Edited February 7, 2017 by 307_Tomcat 2
LLv24_Zami Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 -20 degrees celsius in Finland this morning, winter is definately not yet over . As for VR status, maybe the situation hasn't changed since they announced their plans..
AndyJWest Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 (edited) ...The devs of star citizen almost report everything... Indeed. And then report something else entirely some time later. The latest on VR (one of the Kickstarter goals, something they had repeatedly emphasised was a priority, and was supposed to already be implemented) is now "Sorry to say, do not hold your breath for this." (see https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/comment/7499151/#Comment_7499151) The Star Citizen developers have to be just about the worst example as far as actually delivering on their promises. So if you want random hype, fine. Personally, I prefer developers who update their customers with honest data, as an when it becomes viable to do so. Edited February 8, 2017 by AndyJWest 1

There are simply too many draw calls and shadows in every single scene drawn that prohibit you from getting FPS sustained at 90. I hover around 30fps. Until we get 8-10Ghz computers, or DX12 or the AMD equivalent into the engine (and actually optimized to give better performance than dx11-doesn't seem easy), it's definitely a no-go.Track IR is however something I would expect and it should be implemented. It shouldn't be punted off for another year without any clear answer like they just did in your link-just saying "i don't know"! I hope that we don't learn it's also cancelled at release, that would be just downright silly (I was thinking of another word). Currently the game seems to really be made for 3840x1440 resolution... where it really shines, but it may change with the next patches. Edited February 8, 2017 by TunaEatsLion
dburne Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 I am certainly anxiously awaiting it's implementation!
Bando Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Me too. I'm waiting to see some test results from people who tried it. I know that at this moment people are very enthusiastic about it in other sims, but it's this sim I'd like to start my VR experience with. For the moment I'm balancing on 2 thoughts when people get very exited about it: Buy immediately or wait for V2 of rift/Vive /whatever.

Since facebook lost a recent court battle regarding VR tech or signed agreements by PL, version 2 is still up in the air? They may be forced to stop selling V1.

They may be forced to stop selling V1. Likely not, Zenimax did not get near what they were going for in this case. Namely that the tech was not stolen from them. With the resources Facebook has I am not concerned for the future of the Rift. Me too. I'm waiting to see some test results from people who tried it. For the moment I'm balancing on 2 thoughts when people get very exited about it: Buy immediately or wait for V2 of rift/Vive /whatever. I was waiting for CV2 myself, but about a month or so ago some guys on another forum convinced me it was well worth it now, so I took the plunge and I am so glad I did. The immersion far outweighed any graphics shortcomings for me, and now I only want to game in VR. So looking forward to it's implementation in the BOS series. But if it is this sim you want to use it for, then I would definitely wait until support for it is there. Edited February 8, 2017 by dburne 2
Dakpilot Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 $500 million is not small change, even for facebook must be more like losing at least 2 million Rift sales, has to be a big impact Cheers Dakpilot
von-Luck Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I doubt Rift is going away any time soon. Ol money bags FB has deep pockets and a vision of what they want to do with VR in the future.
Bando Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I know. Just saw a picture of FB owner MZ of him with the oculus and some new gloves. Maybe a virtual cockpit will make the need for sticks, rudders and such obsolete? https://scontent-ams3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/16602064_10103490859471431_8364300797132529738_o.jpg?oh=e21a111986e43a4737f401a8c4774d31&oe=59429F08
dburne Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Indeed, I would say the future of the Rift and VR as a whole is very bright.
