With Stalingrad summer map, graphics maxed with 2 friendly and eight enemy planes in QM I am getting 35 FPS and in the same map with just me flying around I get 50.  Is this acceptable or below average.  Just curious.

I got a old rg 2,8 mhz i7 18 gb Ram and a GTX 680 and now I get between 45 to 55 at high altitude. Before latest patch I had minimum 60. Also we had a heck of a lot of stutter on last FNBF . So apparently  servers are running slower also

@Smink; I have the same processor and graphics card as you do.  It runs on a P6 motherboard too but I run 12gigs of ram.  On Windows 10.

My game settings are Ultra preset,  Fullscreen mode with V-Sync on, HDR and SSAO off, running at my screens native res with frames set to 60, distant landscape at max, grass off, AA set to 2.  I also use something called Nvidia Inspector to add Sparse grid Super Sampling x 2.  These settings really max out my graphics card but I get 60fps or near to it everywhere including a low level 8 v 8 dogfight with medium clouds over the city itself in the QMB using the Stalingrad summer map with all the smoke, explosions, etc.

If I run in windowed mode with v-sync off and frame limiter off then I'll get double that.

However, the most important setting on my system for maximum performance in BoS is the overclock I'm running on my old i7 930.  It runs at 3.9ghz instead of the stock 2.8.  This makes a huge difference.  On my system the sweet spot for BoS is anything over 3.6ghz.

This is really easy to do - it must be because I'm generally a computer idiot and I managed it.  If I were you I'd try and get your ram up to 8 gigs and overclock that CPU.  However, the stock Intel CPU cooler has to be replaced by a higher performance one.  I'm using an Arctic Pro.  They're not expensive either.

50 - 70 in the Moscow map with everything maxed in game. CPU i7 5820K, GTX 980 SC, Memory 16 GB DDR4

My i5-2500K at 4.4 GHz, 8 GB RAM, SSD and a NV 960 GTX with 2 screens (1920 x 1080 @ 120 Hz for 3D, 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz for maps etc) will deliver around 110 FPS (powerful online server, low ping, more or less empty) to 65 FPS with really heavy workload. Range 4x, ultra settings, but no graphics gimmicks like Anti-Aliasing.

I learned a long time ago not to get all the dither about FPS - are you enjoying the experience or not? That's your test.

I buy a good system, I upgrade when I notice that I need the performance or when I think I should...but I haven't installed or looked at an FPS counter

in 10 years or so.

I enjoy the game most when it is fluid and responsive and this is in correlation to FPS with some exceptions - game stuttering or tearing and thanks to FPS counter I know that something is wrong beside obvious things. BTW how PPL can talk precisely how they game perform without relation to basic performance counter like FPS?

Don't get me wrong - just saying I have no use for it myself.

I am klinging to my old rig atm, it is mostly out of curiosity. It have served me excellent for 7 years now and that is a record in my book. I will see how long it takes before I have to change.

I think I am suffering more and more as people get their high resolution screens, And that will bring me to fly more often the PE 2 where I do not need to spot first.

FPS counter in this game [bACKSPACE] is a good tool to see the changes after a patch, that is all

It's capped at 60 FPS for me, but with VSYNC off i usually get between 100-120 FPS in 1080p. Plan to replace my screen to a UWQHD soon though.

With all settings on ultra and maxed out I get between 120 and 150 fps. But with lots of tearing and stutters. With vsynch on I am locked into 60. But no stutters and no tears. Since my monitor is a 60 hertz monitor do the extra fps do anything positive? Not that I can see. So locked at 60 is what I have.

As I understand it, locking your FPS to your refresh rate (or below it) is the best way to prevent the tearing.

Yes, SG, that's what I've done and it works beautifully. I use Mastif's guide for Nvidea cards and the game is simply stunning.

Posted

I would also suggest to cap the FPS to your monitor refresh rate, otherwise the GPU will still run with full load (unless bottle necked), increasing temperature (and noise) and causing unnecessary energy usage.

which guide? can you share the link

I have an old 780Ti, it sticks to 120FPS at high altitude (monitor refresh rate @120, full screen and v sync on) and between 45-70 on the ground, depending on load.

Everything is maxed out, but it doesn't seem to like the extra grass setting, knocks it down into the 20's.

So i leave it off. Who needs extra grass anyway  :)

New card on the way though, so its up for sale soon....

I've been playing on balanced on my older system. I'll have to crank it up and let you know.

Thanks!  I think the issue with fps is my ASUS monitor maxes out at 60 Hz.

I run mediocre setup with i7 6700hq and 1070 on a latop with 16gb ddr4. On the ground/low flying i get min of 45fps with quite a few airplanes around. In air in a busy dogfight area i get anything around 60 up to 100fps.

All on ulta preset no hdr and in game ssao.

Injected SSAO from reshade and 16x anisotropic filtering from Nvidia cc

Hello Smink, sorry for not replying earlier - I missed this bit.  I'm not sure what the Precision XOC tool does but I'm presuming this is a utility for over-clocking your graphics card?

Frankly, I don't think this is worth the effort.  The gains to be made will be minimal.  I'm running a KAF2 GTX 770 EX OC card which is a bit of a mouthful to pronounce but its basically a factory overclocked graphics card with two fans :)

Its neither the latest nor greatest but its still just about adequate for running BoS with decent eye candy on a 27" monitor at 60hz..

I use a little utility called GPU-Z to monitor what its up to.  This is what has been  happening to my graphics card when running an 8 v 8 dogfight at low level on the Stalingrad summer map;

gfx.gif

As you can see, its reached its performance limits .  There is nothing wrong with your monitor either.  As I said above, your system would really benefit from over clocking your I7 CPU - the processor on your motherboard.  If you can raise the stock CPU frequency from 2.8ghz to somewhere over 3.6ghz you will see a real and obvious improvement in BoS performance both in out right FPS and in smoothness and fluidity.

Have a look at this;

At the overclock I run - 3.9ghz - my CPU core temps during the 8 v 8 dogfight never exceed 72 degrees.  Before the recent switch to DX11 they would run to 77 degrees.

Overclocking the I7 CPU is not difficult to do but if you are unsure or not comfortable with this then do not attempt it.  You also MUST replace the stock Intel CPU cooler with an aftermarket one to improve cooling.

Hope this helps :salute:

More FPS = higher responsiveness and fluid motion together with reduced inputlag. But if you have only 60 hz monitor without Gsync and budget PC then you can't utilize benefits of higher experience. Using Vsync or FPS limiter is never good but sometimes give better experience than trying maxout one thing when other can't keep up.

evga z68 sli with i5 2500k overclocked to 4.5ghz, 8gb ddr3 1600, gtx 980ti @ 3440x1440 resolution -  in a solo flight i might drop to 85 on ultra settings in the air when different textures come into view when im looking around.  Generally stays pinned at 99fps (I set the limiter to 100fps in startup.cfg, and have a monitor with a 100hz refresh rate).   On the ground it can get down into the 40's if there's a lot of activity around, so I run the graphics at High instead, even though we're only on the ground for very brief periods.

Processor speed seems to have the biggest effect on frames per second in any modern sim I've played where you may find other games to be a little heavier on the GPU.

ON a heavily populated MP server my frames can hit 70's in the air on utlra.. until i'm looking forward again where it jumps back up to 99.

WIth the limiter turned off i've seen the fps counter state around 128fps at max.

If you are running on a 60hz monitor though, 60 fps is all you need/want.

I have also an 1070 and I am considering to upgrade my CPU to 4790K for playing in VR

I would like to know what fps do you obtain when you unlock the 120 limit?

There is also a procedure that Balapan designed here to compare fps per rig in a more objetive way:

I'm getting today 1080Ti and waiting for better prices to upgrade rest of the setup, so I was wondering how far I can push BoS ? Particularly I was thinking of hitting DSR x4 to get that "sort of" 4k, but anything else in Nvidia control panel/inspector to crank up or adjust for this occasion ? I'm certainly going to stick with Fast Sync since I dont have a G-sync monitor but for the rest of the options I have no idea what is best to pick.

55-60fps on ultra

Stalingrad map, summer everything maxed out @ 2560x1440, 2x190A5 vs 4 yaks and 4 La5's I'm getting  around 130-150 fps.

Overclocked Aorus (Gigabyte) 1080TI.   This thing is beast of a card.  :salute:

Cudos to the developers for the last patch. Before this one, turning labels on would drop my performance to 90-110 fps. Now it stays the same with or without labels. :salute:

Went from 60fps with a lot of micro stutters to 80 - 120 fps with no micro stutters by tweaking settings in game - i7/6700/GTX 770

The 1080ti must scale poorly in this game or something. I run a 1080 (see specs) and get around the same FPS.
