Make Damage/Kill Info A Server Side Setting

One thing I would ask is that the ability to view damage information or kill information be made a server side setting.

In Cliffs of Dover it becomes very obvious that a pilot is reading kill info when he takes a quick snap shot at your cockpit and you are killed, but otherwise your plane is alright. The enemy pilot reads the info that pops up that he's killed the pilot and immediately disengages and does not waste any more ammunition, when really he might have followed you or continued shooting.

Another example: a pilot receives a small fuel leak or a small coolant/oil leak and immediately is made aware of it via damage messages where in reality, without careful monitoring of gauges or visual inspection of aircraft from the cockpit (seeing trailing vapour) the problem may have gone unnoticed until more severe consequences result.

Please make this a server configuration. IE: If I want to run a full real server, I can tick the box that says players cannot view this information.

Thanks!

Couldn't agree more with this. CoDs system was nice that you could change everything to look the way you wanted but that sort of information SHOULD be server set.

Also it was good fun trying to figure out what had/is wrong rather than just being told :D

Totally agree regarding kill information. It needs to be a server setting option. With RoF, you don't get written damage information - just oil in the face, trailing steam/fuel, bits falling off etc - for a demonstration, just watch me online for a few minutes...  ;)

It might be useful to log system damage though, to allow confirmation afterwards of what is wrong, for things that aren't visually obvious - think of it as a groundcrew report

Oh, absolutely. A good example of a great way to handle damage information is the way the ATAG Cliffs of Dover server has done it with a very basic report after you finish your flight that outlines what damage your aircraft received and what damage you dealt out to other aircraft.

I don't really need to know the damage in particular that I do to the enemy aircraft as I wouldn't exactly be privvy to that information, but landing and getting a groundcrew report that I took a bullet to the radiator is a great idea.

In RoF, kill messages are a server side option. So let's hope they will keep it that way.
