ICDP Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 BorysVorobyov had begun work on a MiG-3 4k template but due to personal reasons he feels he is unable to complete his work at any time in the reasonably near future. He kindly agreed to let me continue work on my own MiG-3 4k template but does intend to finish his own work. I have been working away on the MiG-3 and have reached a point where I am happy to show a work in progress. Still a fair bit to do with rivets and screws as well as more weathering. For now here is where I am at. 3
=2/33=Pluton Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 So cool ! One of the most beautiful plane in the game IMHO I can't wait to fly with her new skin thanks for your hard job !
Danziger Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Very nice! Thank you for taking the time. If you want I can PM you some details about a few missing rivet lines and details missing on the original template.
ICDP Posted February 5, 2017 Author Posted February 5, 2017 Hi Borys. Thanks for the offer but I have deliberately chosen to stick as close as possible to original layout. While there may be errors deviating too far brings problems with stock compatibility. I even semi-fixed a glaring issue on the 190 but decided it was best not go go too far. You can eventually release your own MiG-3 template with more accurate layout.
ICDP Posted February 5, 2017 Author Posted February 5, 2017 All rivets and Lines done. Some more weathering required and some other details to be done.

The 3d model was corrected and the scoops were moved but the template was never updated. There should also be panel lines and rivets around them but they were never in the template to begin with.

Yes, I noticed these misplaced shadows and fixed them. I also added the missing rivets/screws on the join between the metal and wooden wings.
ICDP Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 A few paint chips and minor tweaks required. 4
Danziger Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 So now I just got a chance to check it out full size on the computer and good god man that is amazing!
Jade_Monkey Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Looking great. The marking on the nose is a nice touch.
Danziger Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 I like how you made the effect on the edges of that green on green camo.
ICDP Posted February 8, 2017 Author Posted February 8, 2017 A few very minor tweaks and it will be ready to fly. I will upload some generic skins (no numbers) and the template in a day or two.
Jason_Williams Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Martin, It could use a few more nicks an scrapes on the engine area. Like from regular access to the engine etc. Overall it's really great though. Jason
Danziger Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 That is just amazing, Martin. That is the look I wanted in my head but had no idea how to realise it. You really should be a paid artist. If you want some reference photos, I have built up a pretty decent collection. While I agree with Jason that maybe there should be a few more small nicks and scrapes around the panels that were removed often for routine maintenance, I don't think it needs a lot of missing paint. The original was way over done IMHO. I haven't seen any photos of MiGs with crazy amounts of paint missing unless it's a wreck. I like how you did the most common wear pattern for the footpaths along the wing roots. I know you aren't finished but there are a couple of details you may have overlooked. The topside of the gun pods should be colored green or black (whatever the top color is in that spot). The demarcation lines on the MiG from the factory were hard lines on metal surfaces and soft lines on wood surfaces. The rectangle metal panel on the wing root is also a tough one in the MiG template. To get the color to match, I usually have to go a few shades darker in value otherwise it winds up being brighter than the surrounding surface.
=EXPEND=CG_Justin Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 (edited) Martin, It could use a few more nicks an scrapes on the engine area. Like from regular access to the engine etc. Overall it's really great though. Jason I agree with Jason. The paint around the latches, screws, and cam locks take a beating during normal maintenance. Our CRJ's at work are always being touched up. This template is absolutely top notch though, brilliant work sir!!! :clapping: Edited February 9, 2017 by CG_Justin
HotPursuit Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Absolutely superb! I hope the developers use this template for the default skins.
ICDP Posted February 9, 2017 Author Posted February 9, 2017 Thanks for the feedback everyone, it's a great help. I have added more paint chipping around the latches and adjusted the camo demarcation lines as per Bory's suggestion.
Danziger Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Will you be adding a 4k bump map for this one later on as well? I have to say your 4k 190 turned out great!
