Win one of 3 Ju 52

To not make this to easy here is one picture of two cannons. You have to find which one it is and post one of the four names these two cannons had to win a JU 52 code.

Top one is a Mauser GL15 15mm - MG210.

If that counts, please send the key to someone who doesn't have a Ju52.

One of them looks kinda like a mg 151 but it's hard to tell. I know nothing about cannons so I'll keep looking.

I can't say the same about anything, but as far as forum contests, this is my first! I can't wait to find out what all the hooplah over the JU-52 is!

Thanks so much, Gunsmith!

It depends on the edit. I decided to go with the production name of the MG210 rather than the Gerat 6-13 factory prototype name.

I can still save my place and then edit with the correct answer, the first guy did that, he called the first one a mg 151/20 and second one a russian weapon, then after he saw he failed and you and other guy called it correctly he put the name and realize that he was wrong spamming with the proper answer, he should not be winning. I don't care the plane but you can't spam and try to guess every time, edit your answer and took the opportunity to others, that is called cheating and in most of competitions is forbidden.

After the development of the MG 151/15 and MG 151/20 the Mauser constructors thought they could build a even better cannon than the MG 151.

it sould be able to

-fire more rounds per minute

-be not as heavy as the MG 151

-not as long as the MG 151

-one gun which could be easy converted in 13mm, 15mm and 20mm

To do this all they decided to build a gas-operated weapon. They started early in 1940 and by the end of the year they had the first working prototyp ready. It was called GL. 15 Gerät 6-12 ( GL= Gasdrucklader = gas-operated / 15 = 15mm calibre / Gerät 6-12 = device 6-12 a factory internal name).

The RLM tested this weapon and had a view points which should be changed they listed it as MG 210 but had no real interest in the production of this weapon and told Mauser they should continue to develop it.

Gerät 6-12 / MG 210 info:

calibre 15mm

V0 = 960 m/s

weight 32,5 kg

length 1620mm

barrel length 1250mm

rounds per minute 900 Schuss/min

They developed the weapon into the Gerät 6-13 and were ready sometime in 1941 and it was tested again by the RLM.

This time they named it MG 215 it past all test whitout any problems but they had the MG 151 allready in production and didn´t want to change so soon the main weapon again. So it was not produced even it was better in any way than the MG 151. By early 1944 the MG 151 was no longer good enough and the RLM searched for a faster fiering weapon but by than the MG 213 A, B and C were allready in development which by far beat any other cannon of its time. So the MG 215 never made it into production.

Gerät 6-13 / MG 215 info:

calibre 15mm

V0 = 960 m/s

weight 30 kg

length 1620mm

barrel length 1250mm

rounds per minute 900 Schuss/min

MG 151/15

calibre 15mm

V0 = 960 m/s

weight 42,7 kg

length 1960mm

barrel length 1250mm

rounds per minute 650-700 Schuss/min

Picture above MG 151 bolt head below Gerät 6-12 and 6-13 bolt head. The cannons show the Gerät 6-12 ( MG 210 ) above and Gerät 6-13 ( MG 215 ) below.

He posted again just before you thats the reason he got the last Ju 52 i didn´t count his altered post. So it was fair enough. But next time every one will get only one chance.

Really cool info. It looks like I was a step off with my guessing the G 6-13 designation for the MG210.
