Hi guys, I am looking for a new graphic card to play BoS. As I read in the minimum specifictions for Bos, the minimum GPU is a GeForce GTX 660.

I have this pc, an Acer Desktop Aspire M3985 (with a NVidia Ge Force GT 620, 4 Gb ram):

I had bought a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 but after several failed attempts to make it works on my pc, I have returned to Amazon; I updated the bios also but without success.

So, I ask to you, if does exist a GPU higher than GeForce GTX 660, it will work on my pc.

Many thanks for your help.

Ciao!

Why 1060 doesn't work, motherboard compability issue? If yes going higher will result same. I have 1070 @3440x1440 and it's doing its job OK.

Your motherboard should work fine with GTX 1060 < it is PCie 3.0 and H2 LGA 1155 Ivy bridge chipset should be compatible

Maybe the 300W Power supply is not up to the job? especially if it is a  low quality one only intended for the 620 GPU, pre built PC's often have little or no headroom for upgrades

That is the only simple possibility I can think of, if this is the actual issue, it is likely you will need new PSU for any type of GPU upgrade as GTX10XX series are using less power than earlier versions

I changed power supply also. Now I have a 550W PS, but GC was not working...

Maybe a damaged/not working GC?

which power supply do you have? I hope is not a generic cheap trash....

Yes, is enough for a GTX 1060 for example. Do you have that card in your hands or a friend with that card to test?

No, I returned it to Amazon. Unfortunately I had any friends to test the GC....

Unfortunately not in case of yours judge. This game was more but still is CPU hungry. I have i7 6700@4,8Ghz, 16GB ddr4@3300mhz on Asus Ranger IV fulled by 850W XXX psu. BTW I'm playing rof and bos only :)

A friend told me that the main problem is the MB. Being my pc a preassembled the MB is anonymus, with no code, it has only a written "Acer Inc.", so is difficult to determine if the GTX 1060 could work on it....

What do you think about?

It's got a PCI-E 16x slot. It should be fine and the chipset is Ivy Bridge so I don't see any issues there with the architecture. Are you sure the card was in working order and not dead on arrival?

Hi ShamrockOneFive, I am am not sure the card was working. I tried to test it as I could but I have not a friend to ask him to test on his pc the card, so I really don't know if the card was working.

Besides I had to return to Amazon within a month the card to have the total refund of it.....

So I decided to save money till end of the year and then purchase a gaming pc made specifically.... ;)

Good call. A friend of mine bought a PC that wasn't really gaming oriented, tried to make it into one, ended up with a huge set of hassles trying to make it work.

If you can, just build it yourself. I've been building my own gaming PC's for years and years and that's always been a more pleasant experience. You can re-use a lot of stuff like monitors and keyboards and mice and spend money on the vital stuff: CPU, memory, drives (if needed), GPU, etc.

Yes, I also finally got to the conclusion that it is better to build from scratch a gaming PC that groped to patch up what you already have ...
