IL2 Cliff of Dover now very good!

RebelSqurl, Shamrock, Ratsy, Macro, XE, DoubleStandards, YoungChris, Diesel and Chuck (and many others) scramble from RAF Southend and intercept a large german bomber formation assembling at Saint-Omer, France. 100 aircraft took part in the battle over the coast of Normandy, and the first wave of bombers is repulsed by a costly assault spearheaded by No. 71 Squadron. Ultimately, the Germans won the day and successfully bombed all of their objectives after a hard-fought battle lasting for more than 3 hours. The operation was dubbed "Silly Putty" for a not-so-obvious reason.

Cheers to InvaderZim and ATAG_DRock for doing a splending job leading the bombers to their targets despite a desperate defence from the RAF pilots.

(for the fight you can skip to around 20:30)

Very nicely done, thanks for sharing!

Great cockpit, scenery looks fab too!

Just wish I could get all my controls sorted properly for CLoD as they are still very twitchy...

@ trooper: There is a beginners-thread in the ATAG-Forum that helps! There is a list of all commands you need to set!

Two quick questions. Does anyone know if the next patch will include SLI? Is it staying as DX9 for 5.0? Thanks in advance.

Posted

Clod is Dx10 unless you force it to use Dx9

Posted

As for now it does support SLI/Crossfire I don't see why they would stop supporting it with TF 5.0

Have they managed to solve the problem whereby fully laden Heinkels outrun a Hurricane yet?

Have they managed to solve the problem whereby the Ju87 is the most efficient fighter in the game?

Betcha they haven't. All that matters is re-writing history so that the Nazis come out on top. Feel free to subscribe your allegiance. American Dollars are preferable.

I've caught them often enough in that configuration.

I've shot down plenty as a Hurri. They're still too fast though.

Dunno, I feel the 100 oct Spit I is the best fighter in the game at this point. The IIa just feels... weird, even though some swear by it.

109s are strong for speed and climbing, sure, but the Spit just does everything well across the board while also having the upper hand at very, very high alt.

Heck, it even takes more workload off the pilot than the 109 when it comes down to it. The automatic prop pitch in the 109s so so slow in adjusting that you really ought to do it manually if you need top performance and that leaves you with a variable-pitch prop versus a constant-speed one, which is significantly more efficient to use IMO.

I never tried the game without TF, so I have only my own experience and that of the ones I fly with to speak with, but yeah. The first two are definitely not the case and the last is up to debate, as you would expect whenever the "best" adjective is thrown down.

According to 'Steam', I have 1300hours in Cliffs of Dover. How many hours do you have? And I didn't use the adjective 'best' at any point.

Just to clarify, that is one thousand three hundred hours. I didn't spend much of it pouring over the FMB, There were much more capable people around. I spent most of my time flying and making really silly comedy films.

I could fart about taking screenshots of my steam homepage if necessary, but I'd rather that people just believed it. It can be done though. :)

Hm? What does the time I spent in total matter? You asked, I told you how it felt for me with the latest TF patch.

And alright, you said "most efficient", lemme recant and pretend "whenever a superlative adjective is thrown down. Happy?

No need to get pissy about nothing.

The Band of Blennies is back for a second series! We begin the show with the return of the famed Bomber Night! More than 15 RAF bombers took part in a raid on France, escorted by more than 20 Spitfires during the whole operation.

This episode features the very first raid on the Calais-Marck Airfield. Chuck leads the bomber flight to about 22000 ft with Black Wolf from the 20th flying as his No. 2. The fighter escorts are spearheaded by No. 71 Squadron, divided in two flights lead by Rob and Gamecock. Members form the four corners of the flight sim community join us in this epic raid where 75 % of bombers make it home. After a hard-fought battle, the RAF eventually wins the day after a fierce resistance from the Luftwaffe fighters lead by famous aces like Lolsav, BKellum and Reinhart.

During the very first raid, Chuck loses both his engines over France and has to glide his way back to the White Cliffs of Dover.

Will he make it? Will he fail? Stay tuned and all will be revealed!

Got an event tonight on SOW, we've been running these for the last 7 weeks on a Thursday and had 75 pilots last week. Proper mission with a set objective for Blue bombers and a ground controller directing allied forces to try and thwart their attack, really immersive stuff. This mission will link up to last Sunday's (the other regular night) recon of the target, giving Blue time to plan their attack. This server is really for the proper squadron simmers out there but anybody can join in for now.

This was a nice 1 Chuck! I like the music and the comments!

Taken from the ATAG forums:

Very early WIP draft for training material for newcomers... I thought some of you might be interested in reading it. Contains interesting bits of information here and there about how the 71st operates without going into brain-shattering detail.

However, some sections that could interest all newcomers to ATAG include:
- How to set up your magnetic compass and gyro
- How to set up your teamspeak (bookmarks + whisper lists)
- How to use map tools (protractor and grid navigation)
- How to communicate with other pilots (brevity codes)
- HD copy of the Cliffs of Dover map (found it on my hard drive and I STILL can't remember who did it or where I got it from)
- How to set up Info Windows (chat, engine settings, etc.)
- How to set up gun convergence and gunsight range / wingspan

Includes pretty much everything one might want to know about flying RAF fighters with a virtual squadron. Of course, this is not an advanced guide for aircraft operation. That will come later this summer if I have time.

I really do enjoy CLOD and it's amazing what TF have achieved and I look forward to 5.0, but I recently dusted off IL2 1946 and installed the Community Universal Patch (C.U.P) from the guys at SAS and it's astonishing what they have done with a sim that for many was dead and buried. It just goes to show what a dedicated bunch of people can accomplish. Hats off to TF and SAS!

It gets me thinking "mods on option" for BoS please. Just imagine what teams like TF and SAS could do with this title.

Superb, well done you`re doing a great job of making that sim what it should have been and more.

I am so looking forward to TF5, what they are doing with this sim is just incredible!

How can you mention the Kitty but ignore the Bf 108?

I'll mention the 108.  What a ridiculous waste of effort...

One could say the same about the Ju-52. "Oh, it's just a transport aircraft". The Bf.108 was a trainer and transport aircraft and was already available in the game... just not flyable. It is still a piece of aviation history that deserves to be immortalized just like any other aircraft.

Most of these new cockpits are done as a labour of love more than anything. TF is not taking resources away from doing other "more interesting" things. The way these things work is that a guy comes up and says "hey I really like this plane and I want to do a cockpit for it" and voila.

I'd say any aircraft that has some work already done and just needs a few more things, just makes business sense to finish. I'm looking forward to flying the 108.
