Crazy-Canuck Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Is there a way to migrate my current install (BOS) to a ssd from my hdd prior to a clean install of windows 10? Currenlty running on Win 7 64.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 (edited) Just copy and paste the game folder somewhere (if its in steam copy the entire steam folder Steam will run fine if just copy and pasted into windows or even run from a usb stick.)Reinstall windowsCopy it back run the games Redist folder itemsRun the launcher You are good to go.This is why i always have games on a seperate HDD partition anyways.then i can reinstall windows without touching games and 95% of DX9+ games detect all needed and work fine like this. The other option to get proper registry keys is to start the normal installer then let it reach a few % close it and copy your game backup over the top of the partial install and re run the launcher. jaydee Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Hi CC ! What Shadow is saying is correct. But a Clean Install is Safer. You got a New Ssd, a new OS and you want to copy /Paste problems to your new System. A couple of hours downloading and doing Settings might save you some Dramas later. My Opinion. ~S~
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Yes what Jay says is correct..TO be clear my above methods for migration are only for games/steamMost games it works some it does not. (eg, FSX must always be installed for regs keys to work)
Gambit21 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Rise of Flight could just be dragged from hard drive to hard drive.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I did a copy and paste over to my new system. I received an error message when trying to run it. I had to search on line for a missing dll or something. Found it and installed it and all was good.
Soarfeat Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 I would recommend fresh install of the sim and just back these files up and paste them into your new install so you do not have to reconfigure your control settings. 4. For backup and restoring your input configuration use saving and copying ONLY for following files: <game_folder>\data\input\current.actions <game_folder>\data\input\current.devices <game_folder>\data\input\current.map <game_folder>\data\input\current.responses <game_folder>\data\input\devices.txt Also, if you have any aircraft skins you would like to save, back-up your skins folder ( game folder/data/graphics/skins ) and then you can copy and paste into your new installed game. Cheers--sf-- 1
Crazy-Canuck Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 Thanks, I would rather perform a fresh install, however between Steam games, DCS modules, BOS, BMS, CLOD etc etc I may go broke from band width use! Thanks for the input.
