[CPT]CptJackSparrow Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Not new to sims, but just purchased IL2:BoS this week and I have a few questions. (please move this if it's not in the appropriate forum) In '46 there was the ability to have a 90 degree fov, a 45 and a maximum zoom which I had assigned to a hat. I looked and cant seem to find a way to assign that. I currently have zoom set on a rotary (using a X56 Hotas) but that is proving awkward at best. I'd like to be able to tap a hat or button and get maximum zoom on demand. I'm running a Nvidia GTX 1080 on a 40" screen and have seen references to terrain.cfg tweaks. I'm running maximum graphics at the moment. Are those tweaks still viable given the new DirectX update? I'm finding it difficult to spot anything below me, but that could be from a 5 year break from simulations. Thanks in advance. =)
jaydee Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Hi Cpt and welcome ! Regarding Zoom. No, there is no set angles in BOS....But BOS has some great "Head/Camera features" that makes up for it. First off I reckon you should set up your Head Position. Pick a plane and spawn Parked. This will be the Games Default Position. Pause Track IR (Very Important). Now use the Key "Move Head" Forward/Back/up/down etc. This going to be your new Default View of the Cockpit. When you are happy with it, Press F10 to save that view. Now to move to Zoom. This can be adjusted in Settings/Camera...Look for FOV Inertia and FOV change Speed. You will have to Play around with them and find out what suits you. I have a Hat on my joystick where I have what we had in 46. Zoom in /out and Default. Its not the 30,45 70 degrees but it is close. One note CPTN, Head Position has to be done for every aircraft,(If you don't like the Default View). Camera applies to all aircraft ! Regarding Spotting. Forget about Terrain and other CFGs. You have a 1080 so I suggest you play with AA/FSAA in QMB with Labels On as a good starting point. If you have Labels ON you can See at what distance, your Target become visible. Hope this helps Captn. Like your pirates Sig ! ~S~ j 1
[CPT]CptJackSparrow Posted January 30, 2017 Author Posted January 30, 2017 Excellent, I'll try that and report back. Very appreciated! And thanks for the compliment.
[CPT]CptJackSparrow Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 (edited) That worked like a charm Jaydee! I have a very close replica of the "46" fov now. Thank you very much. One more quick question, ssao and hdr, for best visibility of contacts, on or off? Edited February 2, 2017 by CptJackSparrow
jaydee Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Hi Cptn. Spotting in BOS is the best I have experienced in Any Sim. No question In my mind after simming for 25 years. But "Spotting" is very Subjective and Individual. Eyesight, Graphics Settings,Monitor Res are some of the Variables. Nvidia versus AMD is different. The best thing I ever did to Improve Spotting is Buy the Monitor I have Now. I had to buy a 1080 to drive it. Its a G-sync Monitor, so I don't use V-Sync. I don't use Anti-Aliasing coz I don't need to .The high Res Image I am looking at has no "Jaggies". .....Remember if you use AA it is going to "Un-Blur" your distant "Spec" and in effect make it harder to see. What I can Say Capt : moving up from a 1920*1080 Monitor to this one is such a difference in "Spotting". ~s~ 1
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Anti aliasing add nearest neighbour blur and is part of my spotting fixPlane at 9.5km without aa @ 1080P is maybe 10 pixel with aaa nearest neighbour blurring i have it upto around 45 pixels maybes

[CPT]CptJackSparrow Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 I was wondering the same thing.

May I assume that a "input" file or folder for 'each' aircraft will be required for these changes?
