\Hawks/'s initial response to winning. He approved posting it. It is a classic!

"Super super super stoked!!!!

Can't believe i actually won!

Been having rotten luck of late, what with my car setting me back an organ or two.
But you have given this Ol' Sim Combat Pilot, who just completed watching Dunkirk for the third time Yesterday, a right Ol' Toothy Grin!

To boot. it's my Birthday on the 17th so this timing is right on target!

Thank you again kind Sir!

I can't wait for the download to finish. In RSA, we have tiny ants moving the packets of data to our home once it hits our shores."

Congrats again \Hawk/ and ...................

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY SIR!!!

FlightSim review

"One thing that makes this stand out against other fighter simulators out there is the fatigue system..."

I bought WINGS OVER THE REICH just to see how it works. And i was surprised. It looks way better than IL2 1946. And AI is better than IlBox. It is based to old CF 3, which i never liked too much . But that Mediterranean mod was great. And some others too

I really like WOR. Even it is  a bit outdated what comes to graphics, it still looks good. Plus it is not as empty as BOX maps outside towns. Which is important to me.

I have it, but what keeps me away from it at the moment is HORRIBLE interface for setting up controls. I couldn't set up my view in this game. Il2 1946 is so much easier. As for the looks, modded 1946 looks better.

A long topic about WOTR there:

I was surprised about graphics quality!

I just bought Wings Over The Reich. I think that early 2K was golden age of flight sims. Most of them are still alive. I haven't touch CF3 since win 10 came.

But this looks better than IL2 1946 with mods. How on earth they did it?

OK. It is a bit outdated, but gameplay is good and it is fun to make missions with. AI is pretty good. But it is only 30 US Dollars or 27 Euro's.

If you are old skool ofliner like me, this is a must buy.

I'm tempted to buy Wings over Flanders Field too-

Then my flight sim collection is

CF2 & 3+heaps of mods and WOTR

FS 2004, FSX, FSW, P3D

IL2 1946

Vehicle Simulator(mainly for boats and ships)

X_plane 11

IL2 BOX

I don't like DCS for some odd reason....

I've been very impressed with WoTR so far. If you want to sit down and role play a completely immersive career then WoTR and WoFF are both great platforms to do it in. (I just wish I could be more disciplined and survive longer than a month)

Yes but i don't own it buddy and have no intention of buying a 17 year old game.

Just to install two new games.  No offence meant and thank you for replying. ?

Mike.

What difference does it make if it is a 17 year old game or a 17 month old game?  If you want WOFF and WOTR, get it.  Obviously, you are not interested in those two quality historical combat flight sims.

The soundtrack is absolutely SUPERB!  The music by Matt Milne when in the menu screens is major studio quality.  It sets the mood and is very period immersive.  Just fantastic. Sometimes, I boot up either WOTR or WOFF Platinum Edition and instead of playing the sim, I just turn up the music for an hour or so to hear all tracks before I actually play. By then, I feel like I am actually in 1915 or 1942.

I can not speak about WoTR, but in WoFF they did put in lots of effort to give it an extreme immersion  factor, on this point BoX could learn   a lot of OBD, I think BoX is rather sterile at that aspect.  Since I do have my Odyssey+ I’m not playing WoFF anymore, but just imagine if WoFF or WoTR could be played in VR.

I simply could not get it to work

And now I fly with Rift S. Thank you for clearing the VR issue.
I have a bit of grief not being able to fly cod and wotr inVR

The last link is about a free software Vireio Perception that can be compared to VorpX.

edit: Please let us know if somebody succeeded to run this WoFF/WoTR game in VR, without problems. It seems it is still very flatworld.

I like many things about this game. But  I don’t want to go back to 2D after experiencing VR. But for that is no problem the career system is quite immersive.

I remember when OBD had OFF as a free download for anyone who had CFS3. All (I think) 900mb of it. So I bought WOFFBHAH and WOTR, because, [edited] to them for squeezing out as much quality as possible from an almost 20 year old program. Plus, they're not shabby. You never know, they may just garner enough interest to resurrect EAW! Jesus, how good would that be?

Can someone please explain how the Direct X 11 option can be activated in the game? I see Direct X 11 and 9 options in the menu but only the 9 is selected. If this is a Direct X 9 game which is the purpose of the Direct X 11 option?

Looks interesting with the dynamic campaign at the very least. No VR though so its off my radar. Its a shame though since graphics like that would be perfectly fine in a headset.

Also kinda a shame they went European theater, could have been very tempting if they'd done something like Pacific.

I’m not sure that we’ll ever see that vision again in a flight sim - which is a shame. EAW did it right.

They did it almost perfectly.

Just bought this and already regret it.

Binding keys is horrific! The key assign program works really slow and is very unresponsive. There is like 30 second delays when binding a single key. It is somehow related to my throttle unit because if I unplug it the program works normally. And it didn't recognize my throttles "main" axis (axis 8 ) so I had to open up the throttle and switch connectors around to make the "main" axis work (axis 8 ->axis 1).

After hours of messing around I thought that now I have it set up only to find out that still some buttons do not work and others do things I did not assign to them.

And then there are clouds flickering...

To be fair it is a 20 year old Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator III pig in lipstick.

That said, ask OBS for a refund. They refunded me.

If the Battle and Piteå was flyable, I would be all over it

Posted

I'll be honest, I was never able to have this game actually run on my PC and between other sims and real life never really tried to... But I feel like throwing them the asking price for a Battle of France module even just to show them appreciation for modelling such an underepresented theater of the war. :salute:

If they get the Morane as a flyable plane then I'll guess I will have to make the game finally work on my PC

The Curtiss was probably a better performer than the Morane but when you say "Battle of France" I can only think of the MS406 as the iconic french fighter :salute:

The Morane was completely outclassed by the Bf 109... Your best bet would have been the Dewoitine D,520 which was more comparable, but less numerous however...

Morane was compatible with 109b and earlier.
kind of hard following Luftwaffe extreme development. Poland’s fighter could only keep up with Stuka and ant ju.
