There,ll be bluebirds over, the white cliffs of Dover

I'll never forget the people I met
Braving those angry skies
I remember well as the shadows fell
The light of hope in their eyes

Have you tried posting your issue on the official forum Alexmarine? Also if you send your logs to their support they'll have a look. Their pretty quick getting back

Installation went well for me without any issues in Win10.

Game itself also runs without any problems.

Future Plans
-------------------

Further to requests for more information, although most is already stated on the website, we have decide to release a little more information on the future plans
for those people anxious to know before purchasing WOTR.

It is planned to release expansions or add-ons that can be purchased for ‘WOTR’ and these will move the war to Europe.
The expansions will eventually culminate in the extensive devastation of Europe by the day and night bombing raids over the German ‘Reich’.

In the shorter term we also plan to add aircraft together with other content additions such as new airfields, grounds objects and so on in the form of purchasable DLC,
- starting with additional aircraft for WOTR Phase 1 Battle of Britain.

The aircraft planned for first add-on is a flyable Spitfire MKIa. All details TBC and subject to change.

Tempted by this, so have re-installed WOFF to see if It entices me to buy it.

I think my my problem is that I enjoy BOS etc and CLOD, and just feel this has a lot to live up to be impress me.

Posted

The career is like WoFF UE, but set in WWII... the AI has been improved. (it was really, really good in WoFF as it was)

For instance, 109's really will disengage if damaged. They will also disengage because of their low fuel state after a short period of combat... (historical)

They will disengage if they are a novice if they get 'shook up' by enfolding events.

Graphics, well, pretty good, but not in the same ball park as BoS obviously, but then again, looking good is not everything.

As you would know, the feeling of flight is not as good as BoS or RoF, but again, once in the campaign I forget about that as I'm consumed with events around me.

I own all of the BoS series, WoFF, RoF and WoTR... they all have their strengths and weaknesses, but I enjoy playing all of them and they will stay on my HD for many years yet I'm sure  :)

Can anyone tell me how I disable the overlays?

Seems like I can´t find the option to do so.

Hopefully they can have a second look at the shape of the Hurricane’s nose and rear decking.  It looks just a shade too sharp at the front and too thick at the back. There are some double curves on the real thing that are difficult to reproduce.

Yep, it kinda looks like a Yak-1 now.

I'd like to know this too

My brand new rig can't handle this software, get blue screen when trying to start a mission. Besides can't understand how to get my controls working on out either

Shift+F6 I believe it is to enable/disable the overlay everyone

So that looks promising. Graphics are good enough for me and when the AI will be considered important by the devs, i will throw money at them.

Posted

For me, yes... the campaign is excellent, as with their previous game WoFF UE, the AI is extremely good.

The whole package makes me feel part of a squadron, in the thick of it, with after action reports, making claims, (which can be rejected)... enemy aircraft that will bug out when they get low on fuel, enemy pilots will head for home if they get 'shook up'... 109's that will boom and zoom instead of an endless turn fight, the list goes on.

RoF and BoS have a much better feeling of flight however compared to WoTR, and even though WoTR is graphically very good, it is still behind BoS.

That said, I forget about those things when I am immersed in the campaign.

It will not be everyone's cup of tea I'm sure, as lot's of sim pilots seem to want eye candy over game play, or FM and DM matters more, but for me it's the SP career system that will get my vote every time...

Only thing I don't like is the BOB location. Been kind of done to death. Would of rather seen the ETO or Pacific!

Posted

It is called ''Wings Over The Reich'' so your chances of seeing anything Pacific is rather slim don't you think?

Posted (edited)

I'm sure that when this was announced that it was stated that it would start at the Battle of France, and would then proceed to cover the periods leading all the way up to the bombing campaigns over Germany... (maybe I have the wrong end of the stick, but others will correct me if I am wrong)

I was a little fed up actually that it has started at the Battle of Britain, as I would have loved a developer to do that period of fighting over France justice... culminating with the Dunkirk period.

To me, they could have still started with more or less the same aircraft, even doing a couple of French types as AI...

However, I digress... now that I have the game I'm enjoying it, a lot!  :)

Wings over the Reich phase 1 appears to be available to buy! I shall be straight on this tonight.

Sort your SP gameplay out il2, this is money that would have been going on BoBP.

(not that I expect WotR to be perfect, just fed up waiting, and it has to be worth a try)

That's the beauty of decentralized order. You don't have to trust anyone or expect kindness from any centralized government or monopolizing companies. Just bypass them putting your money where is better for you and build a better world through real free market competition thus generating true social balance. If you bought the game with crypto coins you are really a freedom fighter leaving behind and obsolete centralized government money, it's main control device, creating a real rich environment for new games that can supply what customers demand.

the soundtrack is also out on streaming services spotify, itunes, amazon etc.  WotR has a full feature-length soundtrack, with 90 minutes of epic orchestra and choir.  In a departure from the industry norm, you have something that matches the scale of war.

The Spit will be a FREE add on for existing owners of WOTR according to OBD.

The aircraft planned for first FREE add-on, all being well, is a flyable Spitfire MKIa. All details TBC and subject to change.

I just want to drop my 2 cents here on WOTR. Trooper has it spot on in his assessment of WOTR. The thing that WOTR has going on here is the Dynamic Campaign. The feeling of being in a BOB Squadron is presented very enjoyably. The AI are superior to anything out there and the FMs are done very well also. I will differ with Trooper in saying that the FMs are simply different from the other Prime time Sims out right now. Once I stopped trying to compare FMs my enjoyment went up immensely. BOS, ROF, FC, CLOD, DCS and even IL2 1946 all have their differences in FMs and some like this in one and some like that in another and WOTR has its own uniqueness in its FM. The takeoffs and landings are pretty simplistic, but the meat of WOTR is once you are in the air. Flying in formation is a challenge that is fun. The dog fighting is Good, and that is what is important in a CFS. The AI will absolutely wear you out one mission(experienced pilot, high moral, confident Squad) and the next time you might slip right on another EA and blister him from his 6 or just have the upper hand from your piloting skills against the AI with mediocre skills. Every fight seems different in subtle ways to me. It can be quite challenging fighting the AI in WOTR.  The bombers act like bombers and don't fly like fighters once attacked( they perform evasive maneuvers, just not like a fighter), which is nice for a change. The BnZers will BnZ you like Historically correct 109s did in the BOB. Engine management is there(no click able cockpits), mixture, prop pitch, radiators, and performance will be increased or decreased by your piloting skill of managing the engine. The graphics are really nice, the weather varies frequently and the clouds and rain effects are very good. For 29.99 you really can't go wrong. WOTR is another addition to The Combat Flight Sim genre that brings some very nice strengths and a very FUN sim to fly and fight in. Highly recommended. I own all of the current major flight sims, all 4 GBS, FC, Tank Crew, ROF, CLOD,  DCS and yes I Highly recommend WOTR to any SP that loves immersion and a Combat Flight Sim that is alive in its Dynamic Campaign.  After about 2 or 3 weeks of use of both WOFF UE and then WOTR I really started to appreciate what the guys at OBD had produced. Both of these sims run very well on my, old by today's standards, pc. I don't work for OBD nor do I have any reason to publicize their products except that I am very pleased with the 2 products I have purchased from them. While I fly most of my current sims here and there as time allows, WOTR or WOFF UE are my go to quick fix sims that i can jump right into and know in advance that I will be challenged and have FUN flying. My 2 cents, NUFF SAID! ;)

Edit: OBD has updated WOTR to use different skins on the default Squads and also user skins are possible.

I am running a give away of 1 free copy of WOTR, just posted this last night, at the ATAG website if anyone is interested.

You will have to register at ATAG Forums to be able to view the WOTR thread or to enter the drawing.

Wings Over The Reich giveaway on ATAG Forums

Here are a few pictures I have taken in game from WOTR.  One caveat, there is not an in game recorder so no in game replays(fraps does work) and any pictures have to be taken with the sim on pause or on the fly. The experimental viewing options can be a pain in the ass but once you get used to them one can take some very nice pictures. I have disciplined myself to either be in Campaign mode, no pausing to take pictures thus preserving the immersion, or I fly in a designated picture taking campaign where my goal is to take good pictures.

Anyway, if you like to support the Dev teams that are currently developing Combat Flight Sims then take the plunge at 29.99 and support Old Bird  Brown Dog Developers(LOL). This team is doing an outstanding job of developing and supporting their two products, WOTR and WOFF UE. If you Love Single Player then don't miss WOTR or WOFF UE!

Hey Mike, I just posted my comments on WOTR at the above thread. Check it out. WOTR is a Great Sim.

I have to say that I had some Win10 problems with WOTR when it was released (see my previous posts here) but last month some updated finally solved them and I was able to play it for a little. I have to agree with Blademeister, despite some points (which are due to the dated platform on which it was developed) WOTR is at the moment the best BoB single player experience available. I will gladly wait for next packages (seems like they want to go for the Battle of France) and probably give also WOFF a shot in the future :salute:

Posted

I'm certainly interested in the product, although the Battle of Britain chapter holds very little interest for me.  If they later go on to make a more original setting such as the day or night bomber offensive I would be very keen to check it out.

Hi BladeMeister,

many thanks for the heads up. I was just wondering if it is a "game" or a "sim", buddy.

I will go and have a read what you have posted. ?

Thanks very much.

This sounds like my cup of tea. Plus it includes the Hurricane, the best fighter ever. :P

SP is what i am into as well, suits me beter than MP.

Nice review BM, i will have to save some more pennies. :good:

EDIT: Just went to look at the WOTR website and discovered WOFF UE.

Nightmare and it sounds really good. Better than ROF from what i read.

EDIT2: Gutted you have to own CFS3 to use both.  ?  ?

Yes but i don't own it buddy and have no intention of buying a 17 year old game.

Just to install two new games.  No offence meant and thank you for replying. ?

I do encourage people to do it the right way and actually own CFS3, but that is your call. You do not have to have it installed on your computer.

Here is a link to a copy for 16.95$ on ebay and I am sure there are others on Ebay as well.

Don't be such a "Dogbert" and get it one way or the other. The Desire to experience either sim is going to Haunt you day and night if you don't!:o:

Haunting me already hahahahaha.

I am new to all this flightsim stuff. I thought ROF was the one to have.

Then i read on the WOFF that it is rated as the one to have for SP.  ?

Many thanks for the enticing link to CFS3  ?
