No601_Swallow Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) A couple of strange issues. Any advice welcome! 1) Renaming missions. I've often had strange issues with renaming missions, but this one is finally getting on my nerves. I made a "campaign" mission, and put it in a "campaign", with a mission success MCU, picture, etc. I also put in an example mission as mission number 2, which I named "Placeholder". It worked really nicely. Success in mission 1 unlocks mission 2, etc. Now I've done mission 2 and so have deleted "Placeholder" and added the real mission 2 to the campaign. But this new mission still shows up as "Placeholder", in the campaign and in its briefing screen. If I resave it as an SP mission, it names itself correctly "Mission 2: Blah blah blah", but in the Campaign it has the title "Placeholder", even on the briefing screen. I cannot work out why. Now. I've tried almsot everything I can think of. I've deleted everything except the .mission file and let the ME rebuild them. I've deleted all the localization files and let them be rebuilt. I've checked and edited the localization files in Notepad++, I've even checked the .mission file in Notepad++. I've done a search for files with the text "Placeholder" in them in the BoS folder, in case there's another campaign properties file I don't know about, etc, etc. No joy. Any ideas? What am I missing that's blindingly obvious? 2) SP and campaign missions seem to use default skins even when in the ME I select a specifc skin. This is a new one for me, I think. So I must be doing something obvious, or forgetting to tick an obvious tickbox, but for the life of me, I can't see it. I select a skin (actually I assign a custom skin) in the Advanced Properties dialogue. I know the skin is good, because I can use them in QMB and select them in the "Plane Setup" page for the mission, but the skin doesn't seem to "stick" in the ME, and in the mission itself. I just get the default skin, which I would then need the player to change. (Of course I want to lock the skins in the campaign! ). So, any ideas or advice would be welcome! coconut Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 1) look for files called <something>treecache.<something> in data/ and remove all these. 2) I don't know.
No601_Swallow Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) Ahhhhhhhh... Coconut, that was like finally scratching that itch you couldn't get to. Bliss. For anyone else: I had two *treecache.* files (in my case ttreecache.eng and ctreecache.eng) in my BoS/data/ folder. The cursed title "Placeholder" was recorded in "ctreecache.eng" - maybe the 'c' stands for "campaign"??? Anyway: deleting the fecker solved it. Now. The skins thing. Maybe that one's just me...? TP_Silk Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 No Swallow, not just you - I had that when trying to assign single-player skin to my aircraft when testing Sunday's Ops mission. Assigning official skins to AI a/c worked fine, but if I wanted to assign any skin to my 'player' aircraft it didn't seem to want to stick.
dapits Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 hi Just my 2 cents here ; I have the same problem. The CUSTOM skin does not stick to PLAYER aircraft But the Custom skins DO stick to AI airplanes just fine... Have no idea why but that's the fact for me.. So when I design a mission, I have to go inside game Plane Setup if I want to have the Custom skin... So basically, you are not alone..
JimTM Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 (edited) ... 2) SP and campaign missions seem to use default skins even when in the ME I select a specifc skin. When you mention "custom skin", are you referring to the non-default skins that come with IL-2 Sturmovik or are you referring to a user-made add-on skin? I'm not sure what the problem is but I tried a very simple SP mission with just me on the runway in a Yak-1 s69 with skin yak1s69_skin_05 and two wingman, one with the default skin and one with the same skin as me. When I spawned in I had the skin that I had selected and the AI had the selected skins too. Maybe something weird is happening as you make the mission more complex. Perhaps try a simple mission with the exact plane and skin that you are using. Or, you could try recreating the player plane and see it it fixes the problem. Edited January 24, 2017 by JimTM
Gambit21 Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 He's talking about custom user-made skins if I understand his post correctly.
E69_Mertons Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 I had a similar issue with skins in RoF a few weeks ago that may be related to this, so you can check this to solve your problem: I asigned different skins, some "official" and some custom to the planes in my MP misson in ME. But to prevent my mates changing the asigned skin, I activated the "lock Skins" in dserver .sds file. The result was that all planes, human and AI, wore default skins, no matter the assigment done in ME. After that I re-launched mission without the "lock skins" parameter and all planes looked with the skins they were supposed to. So, this might be a stupid point, but it worths the time of checking this parameter on/off in sds file. ~S!
Gambit21 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 On that note - is there a way to lock skins for single player?
E69_Mertons Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 On that note - is there a way to lock skins for single player? I couldn't say, I only build missions for MP, and only in RoF (still, )
Habu Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 On that note - is there a way to lock skins for single player? No, you can only set a default one.
seladon11 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Hi Habu, are there any reasons for that? It's very annoying to go every time to these menu to choose your skin. Especially if you have skins for sevaral squadrons and summer/winter too.

Especially if you have skins for sevaral squadrons and summer/winter too. I only answer to the possibility to lock skins. Not about the use of custom skin on AI or player planes. On that point i used custom skin in my MP mission for AI (if i remember, Juri use custom skin in his campaign on Veliki Luki about the JG51). About the lock option, that option is set by the sds files which is the configuration file for the dedicated server. So, we can lock skin (payload, ...) in multiplayer.
