FW-190 Flap Suggestion

Someone who knows how to drive Automatic only won't be able to immediately drive a Synchromesh, and someone who only learnt how to drive Synchromesh won't be able to drive an Unsynchronized Mesh or Crash Box.

That was not the point that I was replying to really. My question was about your claim that only "mentally or physically disabled" would use devices that automate things.

If a person uses a battery-screwdriver, he must be physically disabled, otherwise he would use a manual screwdriver and twist his hand?

if a person uses excel to calculate things or draw charts, he must be mentally disabled, otherwise he would use pen and paper?

Or maybe many things have been automated just because there are ways to do things without any extra effort or attention from a person and it does not necessarily mean that the person is disabled and not capable of doing it manually, if needed.

Good grief people...it is just a joke about auto gearbox vs manual

in Europe people are more familiar with manual and many old school purists still frown upon and mock Auto's

It is not something to get offended about or take very seriously

In Europe and many other places Auto boxes were considered for girls who cant drive or pensioners, however modern 8 speed auto's and DSG boxes are starting to dispel that old stereotype

Essentially yes. In Engineering we learn a lot of Basic Maths on which to build. We learn a lot Basic Tool that later we build more complex/automatic Systems around, but never forgetting the Basic Tools we need to Troubleshoot and Improve the Product.

You first learn the Screwdriver before you get the Power Drill before you get to Program the Prodcution Robots or whatever.

You learn your Maths with Pen and Paper and only the later Maths allow Calculators, but the first couple Math Exams are all Pen and Paper.

Someone who only knows Automatic is useless outside of an Automatic Car. Someone who learned on a 1951 Opel Blitz (Unsynchronized 4 Speed with 2 Speed Diff and an eternally Gutless Inline 6) will have no Trouble with anything facing him after that. (Seriously, if you have a Blitz with the Petrol Motor, Swap that thing for something Cool, like a 371 or 453 Detroit). Also got to drive a late Model T with those funny three Pedals once. That thing is a Handful, or more of Footfull, especially with my Orang-Utan Feet. We are lucky with out Modern Layout.

So my Basic Point is that Americans are all [bleep].

Definitely not.

He is just throwing out bait (only mentally disabled drive automatic, majority of 109 pilots are ..., all Americans are [beep]) trying to catch a verbal sparring partner. I just answered the call for light sparring.

Ever overheard a discussion in a bar along the lines of something like:

- Oh you drink Heineken ... real men drink Guinness.

- Ah you are watching football ... Liverpool fans are the scum of the earth ... anyway, real men watch rugby.

- All brown-eyed people are [beep].

That's the same tactics basically.

Exactly. Someone mentioned the Fact that this thread undeservedly got a second Page, I agreed my way.

Anyways:

I'm not against using, but being reliant on Automatic Devices without knowledge of the Analog/Manual Ways.

Well...it IS a 190 thread after all.

By definition this means bloated and largely unproductive.

The last thing I want to be doing is agreeing (sort of) with the anti-German-German, but I find the notion of a grown man driving an automatic repugnant.  Sure, I get it if you drive in bumper to bumper traffic most of the time (and maybe 'the wife' or 'boyfriend' also uses the car), but otherwise, how can you possibly embrace the joys of driving in an automatic?   Answer; you can't, and it doesn't matter what you're driving and frankly, it's unmanly.

Oh yeah, and no offence intended to those of you who don't drive a manual.  Just sayin ....

The point is not auto drivers are disabled.

Its people who can ONLY drive an auto and cannot even work the pedals of a manual who are OBviously disabled or have something wrong with them.
Otherwise they could do it (there is NO other option)

Just like EVERYONE can learn to read and write and learn maths (Unless they are disbaled or mentally ill)
An adult who cannot read and not mentally disabled is doing so by choice (aka Lazy SoB)

Like everyone else here in Denmark I drive stick, I'm used to it and kinda like it now, but my gawd, when I was first getting my license I cursed it to high heavens, and I definitely wished I could just get an automatic, but since you're legally required to learn to drive stick, there was no way around it.

Here in Germany we have two Car Licenses, Normal "Klasse B" and "Klasse B beschränkt auf Automatikfahrzeuge" which only allows the Driver to drive Automatics in Public and Trailers of Maximum 750kg. That is the option for Stupid, Lazy and/or Disabled People.

We have something like that here as well but it reserved solely for people who are physically incapable of driving stick.

My wife wrote her masters thesis in collaboration with a fellow student who had a birth defect, her right arm was like 20cm long and practically useless. (No Wulf, this is not your cue to make a joke about other things that are 20cm long and practically useless) She for obvious reasons could only drive automatic with the gear lever placed at the wheel and she had a special license for that.

Wow, we're pretty far off topic now. Maybe it's time to close up shop on this thread?

There is a Reason why Top Gear was the Best Car Show in the World and among the best TV-Shows in General. They were genuinely funny because they were like an Ice Breaker through the Floes of Political Correctness.

People should know better. Gearbox of a driving machine that represents creme de la creme technology advancement with men's heart and sour infused together is automatic, namely f1. Pedal shift is not much different from tiptronic and from what I read above, many would also consider tiptronic not manly enough.

I sat in one f1 machine during Singapore night f1 in a pit. UBS was one of my comp's primary broker so i was lucky to get tickets to suite pit and other goodies.

I am a big fan of manual cars so i see where ppl are coming from. I only owned manual cars in my life, but u cant undermine auto as "pussy car" unless f1 are for pussies.

For my 2nd car, I decided to not buy ferrari because they all had automatic in the showroom. So I picked up am with 7 gear instead.

I like automatic cars and I also take warm showers.

Back to topic, I didn't even know that the Fw190 had different flap settings, I always thought it was full or nothing. Now I see why my landing attempts were even so bad! :o

Good to know..

The F-1 Cars don't have Automatics, but automatized Manual Transmissions. An Automatic is Characterized by the use of a Torque Converter or Planetary Clutch and Planetary Gears or CVT . An F-1 Car has a Mechanic Clutch and a Synchromesh Transmission. Same for the Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (Dual-Clutch-Trannie).

Due to the Lack of Direct Mechanical Connection in the Low Gears they are worse in every way. Less Economical, slower to Accelerate and Respond to inputs, more expensive to Buy and Maintain. The Kickdown is amazingly annoying and unpredictable, especially in Winter going Uphill.

You can't Push-Start on a Dead Battery etc. There really is no Point in having one unless you live in Iceland.

One of the most Fun Transmissions I ever tried was a Trabant 601H (H for Hycomat) which is too Difficult to Describe here but it is a ton of Fun. It's basically normal Manual Transmission with an Automatic, Hydraulically actuated Clutch and a Breaker-Switch on the Gear-Lever for Shifting.

Pictures here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hycomat

Have a guess why less than 20% of New Cars in Europe have an Automatic, even less everywhere else in the World. It's really only  Americans who need Automatics.

... pedal shifts are auto man...

Go ask professional f1 driver and ask them if they consider f1 an auto or manual.

I did at a pit. I think you would be in denial.

Nonsense, the way they are actuated doesn't change their Working Principles. Is my Motorbike an Automatic because it doesn't have a Gear Shift Knob?

You can't shift a an Automatic Manually, but you can shift a Manual Automatically. Just another way Manuals are more versatile.

WOW all this stupid macho nonsense is plain Idiotic, Come on this was a thread about technochat, and it went into a macho ego fights.

things are more easier, if you are trying to show your manhood to the world in every possible situation, that just tells that you are in

doubt with your sexuality. in the other hand if you feel confident with your self, you will give a flying FXXX if a car is Manual or Auto.

you like manual, drive manual

you like auto, drive auto

at the end both vehicles will get you wherever you want.

We are not just talking about Transmissions here, we are not talking about the 190 as well. That is the entire goal of this exchange. I don't give a Rat's Arse what you drive, honestly.

But this thread was about to go down that inevitable 190 Rabbithole.

Anyways, Technochat:

Option 1:

-Flap Selector: Up

-Flap Selector: Stage 1

-Flap Selector: Stage 2

Option 2:

-Flaps: Up

-Flaps: Take-Off

-Flaps: Landing

In Case of Stuka additional Technochat Message: -Intake Air: Unfiltered (When Flaps Up)

-Intake Air: Filtered (When Flaps Down)
